1. What is the purpose of submitting a video in a writing class?

I think the purpose of using a video is to learn how to use different genres to communicate. It was a great opportunity for us to learn how to express ourselves with forms other than writing. It was also a fun way to experiment with a different genre and get a break from writing.

2. Explain how you composed your message (purpose) in multiple forms.

My group decided to introduce part of the issue by showing pictures of examples of it. We also used other pictures to inform people how they can be manipulated by the media. We also showed videos of examples of police incidents and how easily they can be manipulated by the media. We also provided interviews to show how different headlines on the same story can attract more people than others.

3. Why do you think the structure and delivery of the film doc worked to achieve its advocacy?

I think our film helped us show our advocacy because we did our best to show the viewers many examples of how easy it is to be manipulated by the media, especially with police brutality cases which draw people’s attention the most. Each of us used our knowledge in the subject to try and inform the viewers the best way possible and show our advocacy.

I chose my rhetoric for question number 2 because giving the different examples of how we try to promote our message is the best way to explain the methods we used.

week 13

I decided to write a paper for my op-ed assignment. This way I give the viewers more insight and explain myself better than with a video or a poster. Since my topic is complicated and everyone has their own opinion about it, with a paper I will be able to give more background on my opinion.

Video Game Addiction

Week 12 Doc Analysis.

1.The advocacy of this video was that video games can become addictive and affect a person’s life. The advocacy was clear and the documentary gave solutions to the problem. The video showed how video game addictions can affect people’s lives

2.The audience is for anyone who plays video games and to people that know someone that plays video games frequently. This documentary connects with almost anyone because almost everyone plays video games or knows someone who does.

3.This documentary used visuals like interviews of professional people to establish a more serious tone on the video game issue. It also showed clips of how the problem can affect people to appeal to the viewer’s emotions. This film also included funny clips to keep the audience’s attention.

4.The interviews on the that come out in the documentary set more credibility on the film. Also quoting studies and showing evidence in some info helps with credibility.

5.The interviews and TV clips help show that there is an active issue going on with video game addictions. It is effective because it appeals to your logic and shows that it is a real problem and also shows a solution.

Overall, we would give the documentary a B because they included their own material, but it was not much. There was also missing citations for the information used. We still think the documentary was good at showing advocacy and appealing to the viewer.

Literary Review Reflection

When starting this paper I was not very sure on what kind of research would be best for a controversial topic such as Police Brutality since most opinions are very extreme. I think that the research helped me write most of my paper.

The patterns that I found when doing the research was that of very biased and not very trusting sources and articles. This is because the topic I chose was Police brutality and that is a very hot topic that people can be very opinionated it.

I don’t think this methodology always works because its hard to know when people answer truthfully. It is also hard to get actual statistics from a survey. You have to make sure that the age groups of respondents are balances because having most people from a certain age group or ethnicity answer can create a bias in your survey research.

When answering question 3 I based myself on how I saw my research go and always based on how I usually respond surveys. I think most of us sometimes just answer whatever to get it over with.

Transitioning sentences.

1st example:

On my first example I want to transfer from one question to another. The first question is ‘How does the media cover police brutality?’ and the next question is ‘Do people agree with the media coverage of police brutality?’

The next transition is between my second question and my third question. The second question is ‘Do people agree with how media covers police brutality?’ and the third question is ‘Does media have an effect with how people treat or view police?’

On the first question I decided to include memes about proof and evidence because when analyzing the genres the hardest thing for me to do was including the evidence in my reflection. Sometimes it was hard for me to provide evidence to prove what I was saying.
