A letter lies on a desk. It is addressed to Luctus. In it there is a proposal to see if the story of the miner's spirit who got trapped in the mine is true. It is signed by Noel Boisseau.
After reading the letter, Luctus quickly scrawls his own down. An acceptance of the idea.

"I have mixed feelings. On one hand I feel exhausted and sorrowful. On the other, I feel relieved. At least he isn't suffering anymore. People might say that going on a quest to see if the tale about a miner's soul getting stuck in a mine after dying in cave-in was foolish. But I believe we did the right thing."
Of all of the starts in the nightsky, one shone the brightest.
"Wherever he has gone to, I believe he is in a much better place."
”Far better than the mine.” Luctus said in agreement. “ I am glad he has gotten out of there.”
If one could summon a fire extinguisher whenever they wanted. What would they use it for?

The gravedigger came back with a shovel. He looked at each of the men. "I suppose you do not have a coffin in which to bury him, do you? You can buy one from me in exchange for some coin. Not the fanciest thing, but at least it will be good enough to lay him to rest.
"How much for the coffin, old man?", Noel asked. He pulled a bag of coins out of his jacket's pocket.
The graveddiger studied his clothes. He semt to be a man of good social standing.
"Sixty thrones. Sturdy oak wood. Good enough for the brother of a gentleman."
Noel took out sixty thrones out of the bag and handed them over to the gravedigger.
"Thank you. Your aid is quite appreciated."
The gravedigger took the coins and put them inside his pants pocket. He then returned to the warehouse.
30 minutes later, he returned with two servitors carrying a wooden coffin which had been painted red and had a golden imperial aquila adorning the lid. It was fancier than anything the miner's family would have been able to afford.
The gravedigger commanded the servitors to lay the coffin on the ground, which they did carefully.
"And here it is, just as you asked for it, sir. What is the name which should be engraved on the tombstone?"
"Dove. Dove Graham, old man."
The Astartes watched with a solemn eye as the arrangements were made. He was quietly polite though, this is how he had seen the laying of the dead done before after all.
Noel opened the coffin. He felt a deep grief, as if he had actually lost a brother. Could it be because he had gotten emotionally attached to the dead miner, to the point of lying about their kinship? Memories about his lost siblings crossed his mind. Pierre, dying on the field of battle to a traitor guardsman sniper. Lucìa, dead from a car crash. Marianne, dead from chain smoking. And Karl, dead from old age.
And perhaps his three remaining siblings we already dead...
He gently laid Dove down on the coffin. "Sleep well. May you be reunited with your loved ones in the afterlife." After closing the lid, he took out a handkerchief from his coat's pocket and wiped off his tears.
"How much for the tombstone, old man?"
"200 throne gelt, good sir." Noel gave the gravedigger the 200 throne gelt he had asked for. The gravedigger took the money and then proceeded to take his shovel and dig the grave.
He looked at Luctus, wondering if he felt the same way.
Sensing Noel was looking at him‚ Luctus glanced at the man. There was no obvious way to tell what he was feeling‚ but it wasn’t anything good. He had been to a great many burials‚ mass graves‚ and other what not that he largely felt numb. Though‚ maybe he was a tad sad.
So many names of so many people- brothers or not. Innocent‚ or lost. They all in the end merged together into a ball of grief to thick that it’s hide was unable to be penetrated.
Under his breath‚ spoken so low that nobody would hear him‚ he gave his own word for Dove. “Dear not what you see or where you go. The Emperor’s light is as kind as it is bright‚ and you are deserving of the warmth it shall give. Rest well.”
Noel couldn't read Luctus' thoughts, but he could feel his aura being heavy with sorrow. You are no stranger to grief, he thought. For a moment he wondered who were those Luctus had loved and Lost.
He got closer to him, and laid a hand on his arm to comfort him. It took an hour for the pit to be completed.
After it was done, Noel helped the gravedigger to get out of it. The old man then ordered the two servitors to lay down Dove on his grave. The servitors tied each grabbed an end of the coffin and lifted it up. Their reinforced mechanical arms slowly extended as they laid him to rest.
Once they were done, they let go of the coffin and their arms retracted to their original positions. The gravedigger covered the pit with the weariness of one who had done this many times.
Noel could swear he saw the miner's spirit coming out of the grave as a bright light, and then shooting into the stars.
Dove was free then. Put to rest at last over the years he had been stuck in the mine. It was a kind end after a long suffering, Luctus thought.
The Lamenter thanked the gravedigger for the assistance, and watched with a reserved gaze as the old man left to go back to his position. Possibly to give them a few last words with Dove.
