I started making resin earrings sometime around July and August this year. I always wanted to make jewelry, and my want was turned into something physical and tangible after coming across YouTube channels that were using resin to make all sorts of things! Earrings included. I thought it was so abstract and unique, and after a long time of not being sure what jewelryāmaking method would click with me, the concept of using resin to do it did!
After a while, I started selling them at art shows. During early September, I was given the opportunity to sell them in a local store! And have been since I was given that offer.
The thing I want to bring up here, especially, is a little change I made in the packaging that made a big difference and surprised me, honestly. I was completely new to using resin and all, and when it came to what earring cards I wanted to pair my earrings with, I went with black, until today.
A few nights ago, I had a dream that told me to start using white earring cards instead of the black ones, and in the dream, it showed why and it made so much sense. I bought the white earring cards a couple of days ago, and they arrived today! I started switching out the black cards I had with the earrings for the white ones, and I wish I had done it sooner.
I took some comparison pictures! They are the same earrings, different sizes, with different earring cards.
So, in the beginning, I was making earrings that were more like this:
I still do from time to time, BUT I discovered that I prefer how the earrings come out when I pour the ink in the mold first and then pour the resin on top of it (along with any additions like glitter), instead of pouring the resin in the mold and then adding the ink on top of it. Because the newer method makes the earrings come out more translucent compared to the earlier ones, the black cards don't do them justice and actually make it harder to see their color. While the white cards are of a bright contrast, the earrings really show the color. Though I will say, I'm sure the earrings from the beginning would've looked better with the white cards too, just because that bright contrast really makes them pop.
Why am I sharing this? Number 1 is because I LOVE making jewelry, and I'm just so happy and excited over them today. The whole process of making them, coloring them, assembling them, packaging them, and selling them just makes me so happy!
