I just finished watching Transformers: Animated. Tell me why two of my favourite characters in said show both died, not only in a singular episode, but the LAST one?
At least Ratchet, Jazz, and Prime are okay, man 😔
Also yes, this is about Starscream and Prowl. I’m absolutely biased about Starscream he’ll be in my favourites no matter what. And this is actually my first time seeing Prowl in official content/media. He left a very good first impression. Even that one Prowl hater on TT agrees that TFA Prowl is awesome.
Also, yes I have 5 favourites. TFA is such a good show in my opinion, and it’s hard to pick just one or two.
Extending it a bit to ten, my top ten that no one asked for would probably be:
1. Prowl. it would be Screamer but I genuinely really liked Prowl in this show. I don’t really know how to explain it other than that if you look at a few of my other favourites from this show hard enough, plus like half of my favourites from other shows, you’ll begin to see somewhat of a pattern. He’s just a great character, and I’m sure many can agree.
2 & 3. Starscream and Optimus Prime. I really can’t pick between these two. Starscream is partially just up there because he’s one of my favourites in general. I don’t even know why other than something similar to what i said with Prowl, but he just is and I love him for it (as a character). Also, something interesting that I kinda realized was that, while it was never outright said if I remember correctly, Starscream was technically a neutral for a good amount of the show. And then Optimus is amazing and absolutely deserves second. This iteration of him is definitely one of my favourites of the ones I’ve seen so far. So they just both tie 2nd and 3rd I guess.
4. Jazz. While this would be Ratchet, Jazz definitely grew on me as we started seeing him more and more in the show—not to say he wasn’t already a contender at his first appearance. Similarly to Prowl, this is the first time I really got to see him in official content aside from RiD15, in which he didn’t really have a big enough presence in the show to leave an impact, in my opinion. I guess he’s just really cool in TFA, lol.
5. Ratchet. I already loved him from TFP, and that carried over to TFA. He’s just that grumpy grandpa that everyone knows really loves all of his kids, especially in this show. I was really happy—although sad for him—that we got some background on him and his past in the war, even just a bit. He’s a great character that I really enjoy.
6. Blitzwing. Aside from his appearance in the Bumblebee movie, this is my first time really meeting his character and, while I’m 70% sure he doesn’t have the whole personality thing in other media, I really enjoyed his character. The 3 personalities is a really interesting gimmick. I’m not sure if they each have names, but the middle one/the one with black faceplates and red facial design was probably my favourite, lol.
7. Bumblebee. Honestly this is one of the first iterations I’ve seen of him that can actually speak (the first being RiD15). I know he’s young throughout a lot if not all universes, but this really goes to show just how young, and not necessarily in a bad way for me. I don’t really know how to explain it other than he was a good character that I enjoyed. I just don’t like how he sort of kept insulting Bulkhead, even if I definitely prefer the Bulkhead from TFP.
8. Blurr. Oh Blurr. Poor, poor Blurr. They (Shockwave) turned you into a literal cube. He’s a great—and honestly funny in my opinion—character, I just wish we could’ve seen more of him. He’s definitely different than what I’ve seen of him before in Rescue Bots and RiD15 (although I guess you could say they’re different than him), but now I’m kind of wishing those Blurrs had the same gimmick, ‘cause it was fun to watch and hear.
9. Sari. I kind of didn’t know what to feel about her at first, but she reminded me somewhat of Miko to take a bit of a liking to her, and it definitely grew from there. Speaking of growing, she definitely matured and mellowed out a bit after her body literally aged up, which even if we didn’t get to see a lot of that version of her, I was still sort of grateful for.
10. Shockwave. This is where it sort of gets tricky. I don’t really have much to say for him. We only really get to see him in season three if I remember correctly, but he’s a pretty cool character. Really cool how he can shapeshift, honestly. I KNEW right as Longarm told Bee not to tell Sentinel that he was the traitor, but I wasn’t expecting him to be Shockwave. I saw the clip of him showing his true purple colours before I began the show, and I was kinda sad it was all the way in the last episode, but the white(?) colour honestly fit, I’m not gonna lie.
