This artist retreat really has shifted the way I think about myself, my art, and those around me who are hustling their coins. I was so burnt about after my senior and graduation that forgot that I enjoyed art and why I actually did it. So today I to spend some quality time with my coping mechanisms and showed them the love that they desire and that my craft deserves with a proper photoshoot. “Brown Sugar” Fiberglass resin. People use to say to me “you talk white” or “you’re the whitest Black man I know” I’ve reflected. I don’t know if they are wrong they just worded in a way that suggest that brilliance can’t be Black. However appropriation is real and exhausting. I wear the mask that makes my Blackness easier to swallow. There are layers and complexity to Blackness.
