"Queering" Harry Potter
Capstone Project
I'm working on my senior year capstone project about fandom and how the queer community engages with media to reclaim it through "queering" the text. Fans have found ways to take those harmful narratives and make it their own. In particular, I'm looking at the Harry Potter fandom.
Is there any interest from people to take a survey regarding their Harry Potter fandom experiences, how they feel about Rowling and if they themselves have "queered" the text to reclaim the wizarding world to be more inclusive, as resistance against the author.
And would anyone be willing to share quotes/text/fanart/fanfic, or visual fanworks of any kind so I may compile everything into an 6-8 page zine?
My goal is to examine how fans "queer" harmful canon text, find queer joy in diverse fanworks, and how we can critically & creatively engage with text that is harmful yet also provides a space that helps people be themselves.
Fandom communities are so important for identity formation, mental health, and creativity. Especially online fandom is important as a queer heterotopia when it can be difficult to be yourself in mainstream physical spaces.
Through a short visually popping zine, I can provide people a snapshot of how the Harry Potter fandom feels about diverse fanworks that reclaim and reinterpret the original narratives, such as trans-inclusive Hogwarts, trans Harry Potter or Draco headcanons/retellings, Black Hermione fanworks, Drarry, Wolfstar, etc.
Would anyone be interested in a project like this? The zine should be publicly available by the end of April. It will be hand designed on Canva, and physically printed and shared around my campus and a PDF will be online for free. This isn't made for profit, it is made as a senior student project.
A non comprehensive list of thoughts and examples of what neuroqueer(ing) CAN look like.
Although, as Nick Walker says...
"...any effort to establish an “authoritative” definition of neuroqueer is in some sense inherently doomed and ridiculous, simply because the sort of people who identify as neuroqueer and engage in neuroqueering tend to be the sort of people who delight in subverting definitions, concepts, and authority."

We all love some good ol' apotheosis, and queer liberation theology is all the rage... Being trans, becoming more true, becoming more divine. Your friendly neighborhood demon theologian has a proposition... Let's do a dialectic with queer sex positivity and Christian religion, something befitting a succubus... Something deliciously "heretical" in all the right ways.
I think it's time to look at divinity from a fresh, new, and hella gay perspective: Ladies, gentleman, nonbinary pals and lovely persons/nonhumans of Tumblr... It's time for
Auto-Erotic Theism
Why not get off on the idea of becoming divine? Becoming more true and real, more "you"... Enjoy your body. It's a "temple" of divinity. Perhaps that divinity penetrates all throughout nature, that's a beautiful idea, no? Why not take joy in it? How dare we not love love?
Whether the Fifteenth Doctor is ever overtly gay or queer in relationships, the fact that he birthed himself from another man who is not his father but himself means he is already queered.
Forgive me father for I have sinned
But I have never felt anything holier than her presence
I’d happily sin a thousand more times just to feel her touch, to be graced by her smile, to hear that heavenly voice drip from her lips
When Leftists say queer, they don't mean bisexual, lesbian or gay, they mean Leftist.
The fact that they have made government departments - as well as many corporations - enforce Queer Theory shows how rotten things have become.
So why are they lying about it? Well, to a Leftist, lies are the worship of their god - the prayer wheel spinning with each deceit.
A Leftist who has an honest moment cannot remain in their church. They look in the mirror and finally see what they've become.
