I think one of the things I really like about Stardew Valley is the way it handles not being straight. A lot of other games with dating elements will have the NPCs be “playersexual” and not really think anything of dating a player of either gender, and while Stardew obviously does this to some extent, it also acknowledges homophobia, compulsory heterosexuality, etc in a really lowkey way depending on the character’s gender. Abigail will tell a female character she never knew she liked girls until she met her, Leah will say “Oh–you too? That’s good to know” if you try to kiss her early on as a female character, and if you marry Alex as a man his grandpa George will say he’s changed his views on gay marriage because of you.

It’s simple and pretty low key but I like it. It feels more organic than the assumption that characters’ reactions to you would be completely identical regardless of gender.
