"What is this place? Safe houses are usually empty and impersonal. This house feels lived in."

"You know, whatever issues that you clearly have, maybe you should just talk to someone? Because based on this, I don't think that violence is making you happy."

"Oh my god, you're so pathetic."

"I've tried the carrot. Do you want me to get out the stick?"

"I don't know why you're doing this, and I don't care - but I want it to stop!"

"Make this quick; I've got underlings to bully."

"God, your ego is such a blind spot."

"Sorry, since when did you start keeping a gun in the office?"

"I'm sorry, but this tea isn't strong enough. I could tell just by the look of it, but I was trying to be polite."

"Rather than just standing there, why don't you help?"

"Please do not stress me because I do not react well with stress!"

"That sounds like I shouldn't know that, so just forget I said it."

“You okay? You were kind of a mess last night.”

After wiping the sick from her mouth, Rori sat down heavily on the floor, leaning her head back and trying to steady her mind. This was unlike any hangover she had experienced before.

"Uh, yeah. Maybe. I'm not sure," she admitted, opening her eyes to try and focus on the man nearby. He was somewhat familiar now, in the way a stranger you pass on the way to work every day is familiar. Known, but still unknown.

"Was I?" Rori asked, her tone genuine and slightly confused, her brow furrowing at his comment.

“Look to your left. Someone is watching us.”

Rori leaned close to Carter. To the outside onlooker, it may seem as though she were flirtatiously going to whisper a secret to him. In truth, she was using the movement as a distraction so she could get a better glimpse at the person tailing them.

They didn't look particularly familiar to her.

With a playful pat to his shoulder, she left his personal space and gave him a wide smile, as if everything was fine. But she kept her voice low,

"Not someone I know. You?"

(Matthew) “Somebody’s gotta watch after these folks.”

[Prompt]

"Good thing they've got you keepin' an eye on 'em," she agreed with a smile and a friendly nudge of her elbow.

"Still doesn't mean you're not allowed to have fun yourself."

“Uh, don’t know if you remember my name or not. You were pretty wasted last night.”

[Prompt]

Wasted? Rori hardly remembered drinking at all. Only one or two at most.

Right?

She pressed her fingers to her forehead, as if she could will the memories back. Instead, she was rewarded with a sharp pain behind her eyes and a flip of her stomach.

"No, sorry. I... I don't even remember drinking," she admitted, hoping the hazy fog of her mind would give way. Again, her stomach churned and she pushed herself from the bed to her feet.

"Bathroom. Now."

“Oh, hey. You’re up. Yeah, I wasn’t sure if you wanted to sleep in or not, so…”

[Prompt]

Rori rubbed at her temples, eyes squeezed shut against the light filtering into the room. The pounding in her head was near unbearable, as was the unsteadiness in her stomach. She just wanted to go back to sleep. She let out a groan.

The unfamiliar voice, however, jolted her awake. Her eyes snapped open and she sat up, fists balled. It was then she realized she was not in her bed. But her clothes were on, so that was a good sign.

"The fuck am I?"

“Do you mind if I smoke?”

[Prompt]

"Knock yourself out," she replied with a shake of her head, focus on the pot in front of her brimming with stewed meat and vegetables. "Dinner should be done here shortly."

(Grant) “Look what the cat drug to camp.”

[Prompt]

"Cat might've dragged me here, but you look like it hacked you up alongside a hairball," Rori shot back, her tone full of easygoing jest. She reached up to adjust the bandaging wrapped around her head as it slipped down and covered half her eyeline before plopping down next to Grant, leaving juuust enough 'I'm not touching you' room between the pair.

"Dinner ready?"

(Matthew) “Just so you know, that could’ve gone a lot worse.”

[Prompt]

"Could've gone better too," she countered, although the bite in her tone was cut down by the blood smeared across her face from the gash on her forehead. Matthew was right - it could have gone much worse - but they were alive, so she considered it a win overall.

“I’d rather wear a bean sack than be choked by a damned dress.”

[Prompt]

"I'm with you there," Rori agreed, using a knife to cut the dress in question into long strips. "Rather be naked, honestly. But at least this'll do for bandaging should we need it."

“We could be listening to cicadas and frogs by the river, but instead we’re listening to this.”

[Prompt]

"We are... being so supportive right now," Rori said through half-gritted teeth, an only slightly-forced smile plastered onto her face as she fought the urge to wince from the metal screeching coming from the makeshift stage ahead of them.

Atop the stage was the top-half of a Protectron, its internal gears whirring and grinding and its damaged voicebox attempting a rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner alongside an Eyebot (sans casing) keeping time with its ill-timed beeps.

Jake stood proudly next to the two 'bots as he strummed a partially tuned banjo along with the pair.

(Slim) “If there’s a better way to get shot, I don’t know it.”

"Just... be Asher?" Rori suggested, shrugging her shoulders.

“Only cure for stupid is reachin’ the gates of Heaven.”

[Prompt]

"In this case, it might be the gates of Hell," she clarified, shaking her head as she kneeled down to check for a pulse on the man passed out in the streets of Goodneighbor. When Rori was rewarded with a loud snore, she let out a quiet sigh of relief before nudging the man closer to the wall and out of the way of foot traffic.

"Seems he'll be waking up to the dirty world yet again."

(Grant) “Not a word of this to anyone. Got it?”

[Prompt]

Rori hadn’t meant to intrude. Well, she had, but she didn’t think Grant was in the room. She had called out and knocked and there had been no answer, so she opened the door... to find Grant shirtless and changing bandages.

The sight of it all had frozen Rori in place, and before she could blurt out an apology and leave, Grant had snatched a shirt over himself and scowled at her, growling for her not to say anything.

“No, I - I won’t,” she assured him, shaking her head for emphasis. Rori hadn't seen much, and while she was concerned, she certainly wasn't about to make a ruckus.

“How did you find out?”

"Got caught by Jay on the way in," she explained, watching as the trader stuffed clothing into a bag. "I thought I misheard him, but he was saying that you're leaving? Something about Olivia finding someone?"

“I mean, are you… are you always this charming in the morning?”

Rori nudged the mercenary's ribs playfully before pushing against his shoulder with her own. She brought her steaming mug of coffee to her lips, taking a deep sip before cutting her eyes at him.

"Stick around long enough and maybe you'll find out."

"Hm? Oh, yeah, the seat's not taken," she replied with a smile, and scooted so the woman would have some extra room at the table.

"I'm just waiting on lunch to be ready and then you can have the table all to yourself."
