I ship it as doomed yuri uwu so like. we never get textual evidence that Rui is a neglectful parent. the most we get is that Yukina wants their whole race wiped out but if Rui was good, don't you think she'd make an exception for that?

And like. Imagine how emotionally difficult it would be to raise your best friend's mirror image of you after tossing one of her other kids off the cliff?

But the big thing is that like yeah they were friends but this is a society with no men...but enough camaraderie to keep everybody close knit. There HAD to be romantic feelings between koorime sometimes.

It is not unknown for cults to use sexual bonds to control their members, either. Hiei and Yukina's entire Thing is steeped in tragedy. I love me some tragedy.
