Don't use your muse(s) to vent your out-of-character frustrations or give yourself an ego boost.

I've seen this happen many times over my 10+ years of role-playing on this site. I've met a lot of muns that tend to use their muses as a means of airing out their grievances, or making themselves feel/seem important.

Example #1: I once met someone who would speak through their muse whenever someone on the dash (a writing partner or just a mutual) angered or frustrated them. They wouldn't directly call the target out, but to those in the know, it was clear who they were talking about.

Example #2: I knew someone that I would plot a thread out in advance with, we both agreed that was how it was going to play out so both of us would be happy, and then when it came down to writing the thread, their muse unexpectedly vilified mine in order to make them seem like they were "special" or "more important" or "the good guy."

This is incredibly frustrating and off-putting. Writing is supposed to be fun for everyone involved. It's not meant to make any one person seem or feel more important than anyone else.

If you're doing either of these things, rest assured that you are the only one having fun.

I've started seeing this a lot in the last month or so. I see a character of mun A make a dash commentary about Mun B's muse and Mun B either makes an OOC post vagueing about how no one understands / respects their muse or they make a dash commentary IC and vague about mun A in the tags.

It's okay for muses not to get along. What's not okay is making the living person behind that character feel terrible for having their muse be anything other than perfectly agreeable.

Yes. A lot of the characters in this fandom are powerful. Yes. A lot of the characters in this fandom are bad people. No, it's not okay to get shitty in your tags with a real life person because you don't like that their character was disrespectful to yours.

I know we all put a little bit of ourselves into these characters. I know we're very fond of these characters, but when the real life writer starts taking it super personally when a character isn't being nice/ respectful to their character, and it's bothering them enough that they feel the need to vaguely call the other writer stupid / a rude person for not understanding... Maybe take a step back?

Don't hurt real life people over characters. Don't treat other human beings like crap over characters. Don't use characters as an excuse to be shitty to other real life human beings.
