And if at that point in time she will want to be in Spain, I as her husband would consider it so that she didn't feel like she would have to escape and leave without a trace like the last time you two colluded to meet." he said, feeling entitled to speak to Maceon man to man despite their presumed differences in rank. "Surely there is something more we can do than offer food and drink when they are trapped in god knows what kind of conditions,"

She turned her gaze towards the expansive view of the azure waves, the sun casting a golden hue over the water. "It truly is beautiful," she agreed softly, her own thoughts momentarily drifting. "I often find myself drawn here when the weight of the world feels heavy. It's as if the sea holds the answers we seek, or at least eases our burdens for a while." Lorena glanced back at the Athens Princess, offering a reassuring smile. "Are you finding peace here, amidst the waves?" She paused briefly coming to her senses, "Forgive me for not introducing myself earlier. I'm Lorena Ortiz" she said with a gentle smile.

"We have that in common then, the ocean has always been a calming sight for me as well. Something dependable, and a way to escape from the struggles that we all face day to day," she said, her eyes briefly captured by the water and the waves crashing again.

she knew sleep would not befall her, not anytime soon. the princess sat in the window seat, facing looking out with her legs criss-crossed. she had chosen to wear her love's shirt, loose and baggy on her body instead of a tight dressing gown. the shirt felt comfortable, both in the sense of his scent around her and the freedom it gave her to move in.

illuminated by the moonlight, her gaze watched as raindrops ran down the glass windowpanes — the thunderstorm outside raging on. the events of the past day had caused aurora to think, a lot, about everything. everything she didn't know or understand. she had made the decision all those years ago to stop taking an interest in the monarchy, in her own crown — but aurora had never known it would have consequences such as this. she never would have guessed it. consequences that left her utterly clueless in the wake of such chaos. she did not know what her parents or what the politicians that so prided themselves on taking power for themselves had planned but she was certain that her opinion had not changed; she wanted nothing to do with it. she didn't want her crown. she didn't want her throne.

aurora heard her husband stir in the bed across the room, and knew he would be noticing her absence. " alexander, " the strawberry blonde said his name softly, as to not startle him but to let him know she was still there. she didn't need to tell him she couldn't sleep, or that worries plagued her — she knew he could tell. the princess was quiet for a moment longer, a hand coming up to trace the raindrops that fell. " i do not think i am safe in france anymore. " the beauty finally spoke again. had she ever been, really? " i am tired of being accused and questioned; when i have not stepped a foot in a political meeting in years. "

" aurora turned her body to sit sideways in the window seat, stretching her legs before curling them up to her chest and holding her knees close. her eyes welled up with tears. " i fear i need your open protection more then we need secrecy. i need someone on my side, because france is not. " if the politicians did not secretly hate her before, surely they did now. it was not her choice to avoid the dark cells and the torture they all experienced, but she did not believe they would hear that.

there was a pause, before another thought came to her mind. " i also fear that scotland will not protect me, i fear your siblings won't welcome me due to our secrecy or my crown — or both. " fear seemed to be what plagued her most these days. it made it hard to sleep, she felt sick to her stomach all the time. " i know you will protect me and i know cailean would join you in such without question. " she never doubted how either of them would be by her side. she knew if anything, she had two supporters in scotland. perhaps all she needed was that — a king and a commander. tears had begun to slowly fall down her cheeks as she brought her crystalline gaze to her husband. " i don't want to be the crown princess of france anymore, i just want to be your wife. i would be happy in scotland's court, titleless, as long as i was with you. " she was preparing herself for any compromise his siblings might propose.

After everything that had happened there was no way that he was going to sleep without Aurora by his side, and thankfully with most of the security resources of France being locked up, it wasn't as difficult as it usually was for her to get to his chambers once everyone else had gone to bed. When he woke up, he went to wrap his arms around her and she wasn't there so naturally his first thought was that something had happened and he immediately turned to grab his sword, about to leap out of bed to find her when she called his name from where she had found a spot for herself by the window. "Rora," he sighed, dropping the sword and sitting up in bed for a moment calming himself now that he could see she was alright. "What are you doing awake my love, you need your rest." he asked, getting up slower now and moving to sit on the chair that had been situated by his desk, closer to the window while he gave her some space, listening to what she had to say carefully.

"You are the Crown Princess of France, my love. They should be the least of your worries -- if anything you're supposed to feel safest with them," he reasoned, curious about how things had gotten so bad for the French royal family but equally worried for just Aurora's safety. "Being connected to Scotland and to me would only put a larger target on your back, Aurora.." he started, though all he could hear was the fear in her voice. "But if you really think that this is something that you need... we will of course think of a way to make it happen..."

Sighing and running his hands through his hair at the mention of his siblings, he looked at her. "Rora... I will protect you no matter what, you know that. I would happily give up everything - my own life, to make sure that you are safe. I didn't want to burden you with this until later on but with recent events, I think you should know.. there's something that I didn't tell you before we got married.." he admitted, taking a deep breath, not sure if this was the best time to tell her about this but knowing that he couldn't keep it from her anymore. "When our parents died, the Scottish crown was not passed down to the eldest sibling as many others do... instead my siblings and I formed the Regency and split the crown between us, but to do this we all promised to remain unwed - to keep the power split between us without risk of an heir complicating the line of succession.." he knew that was a lot of information but he needed to get through it. "I meant what I said when I proposed... that I would happily give up my crown for you, but I needed you to know about what our marriage means - not only to Scotland but to my siblings, it's something that could threaten the very fragile fabric of our monarchy, it's not something that they will take lightly," he admitted, ashamed of the fact that he had kept that from her. "I don't want to frighten you more than you already are with what is happening. I want nothing more than for you to simply be my wife and to live the rest of my days with you, but you deserve to know the truth of it all."

Glaring at her sister's blatant lie "a shadow with fur and a crooked tail?!" she accused, not buying her lie for a second when their present reality was one right out of one of her worst nightmares. "I will breathe when the air once again smells of essential oils and lavender! I do not even want to validate that with a description of what this current... cage! reeks of." she murmured determined yet clearly disgusted with what was happening all around her as their bars seemed fully locked and no semblance of freedom existed for them anymore. "Ara... please please tell me that you didnt have anything to do with this because I'm telling you right now that whatever amount of gold bars this could have resulted in, imprisonment in a disgusting jail cell is very far from worth it!" she said, her voice more hushed because she honestly had no clue if her sister had played a part in this.

Cedric's heart ached at the sight of Genevieve, her face illuminated by the flickering light of the torch. “Genevieve…” he breathed, the name escaping his lips like a plea. Her concern for him was palpable, and it cut deep, a reminder of how unfair this situation was. He longed to reach through the bars, to pull her close and shield her from the danger that surrounded them. The reality that he was behind these cold iron bars, unable to protect her, gnawed at him. “I’m alright,” he assured her, though the weight of his confinement felt heavier with each passing second. Cedric shook his head, trying to quell her fears. “No, not yet.” He quickly hid his injured hand behind his back, careful not to let her see the raw knuckles from punching the cell wall in frustration.

The frustration surged within him, mingling with a deep-seated helplessness. “They’re using fear as a weapon. This whole place is a nightmare. You shouldn’t have to bear this burden, especially not for me.” He could see the resolve in her stance, but he wanted to shield her from the reality of what was happening. "Being seen here could put you in danger. You need to go back. Many are not happy” The words felt like a desperate plea, each syllable weighted with the fear of what could happen if she was caught. He reached for her hand, fingertips brushing against hers through the bars, a fleeting touch that felt like a lifeline. “Promise me you’ll be careful. I can’t bear the thought of something happening to you because of me.” His voice was low, almost breaking, the gravity of the situation settling in his chest.

"If they're using fear as a weapon then it is working," she said, her hands shaking as she still strained to reach him through the iron bars, grasping at his fingertips and taking whatever touch she could get, desperately searching his face to see if he was telling her the truth about not being harmed. "I don't want to leave you here alone Cedric, being here is not as terrible as being stuck up there knowing that you are down here suffering.." she insisted, shaking her head stubbornly, only thinking about being with him and not having to be forced apart again. "We didn't choose this... we had no idea--if it were up to us we would be here with you all, Cedric if this was my parents--" she trailed off, shaking her head in disappointment and fear that she could be so closely related to anyone who had a hand in this specific torture. "Do not think of me, all you need to concern yourself with is keeping yourself safe here... staying well..." she insisted, knowing that again the only way that someone could really hurt her was to get to him. "Promise me you won't do anything stupid-- don't be a hero, Cedric... just get through this so that you can return to me unharmed..." she begged, passing some food that she'd wrapped in a linen cloth from their own meal through the bars of his cell.

she let go of her sister as she moved to pace around the room, watching with her hands clasped firmly together. the slip of the guard's name told aurora everything she needed to know. " you are right, and i too understand nothing about this. " the princess said softly — trying to retain a calm demeanor for her sister's sake. she would have her moment to cry, panic and worry later. for now, aurora was doing what she always did — she stood tall and strong for the sake of protecting her sisters.

aurora walked over to genevieve, taking her shoulders into her hands and making the younger princess look her in the eye. " gennie, cedric will be alright. he is not in the royal guard for mere show. if anyone will come out of there unscathed, it is him. " of course, aurora could not vouch for anybody else. " we have to believe they're strong, and that they can handle what is thrown at them. " the princess sighed, giving her sister a squeeze. " — but genevieve, we also must worry for ourselves. "

she did not want to frighten her sister, but she would not have her sister lost because she was unprepared, either. " it does not look good for us to be excluded like this. to walk free while they do not. those who dislike us now have more reason, you must be careful who you speak to — even within our own court. france and others may not see reason to be kind to us. "

"And that is exactly what I'm afraid of Rora, he's a royal guard - what if they make an example of him because of his connection to us?" she asked, still wearing down the floorboards underneath her as she paced back and forth, connecting the dots of what could and could not happen to Cedric while she was kept there with her sister like birds in yet another gilded cage. At Rora's words about how she should worry for themselves she quieted down, it was a reality that had passed her mind in thinking about Cedric, but they were certainly put in a position that would leave them even more at odds with their own people. "We should be down there with all of them, they don't deserve this treatment.. isn't there anything we can do?" she asked, sighing and taking a seat next to Aurora. ".... who can we trust, if we don't even know if our own court wants to do away with us after all of this?"

With everything being so hostile after the tribunal, he couldn't blame her for approaching with hesitation - anyone with half a brain would have done the same in approaching someone who they weren't entirely familiar with. That said he nodded, standing as it was the polite thing to do when being greeted by a member of another royal family and a woman at that - perhaps his social graces were not as hopeless as his advisors and tutors had everyone believe - "Please, your highness." he said, offering her the chair and waiting for her to sit before he sat back down on his own chair.

the  physicians  had  been  clear  that  he should rest, but as he had tossed aside their insistence that he should remain in the infirmary, so too was this advice discarded. sitting around was not an option when turkey was under threat, his own wound a testament to that. he was making his own rounds checking on the soldiers when the pain in his side felt louder. timur waited until the hallway was empty before checking the bandage. a small stain of red contrasted against the white wrapping.   ❝ fuck. ❞   he quickly concealed the bandage but trusting in his solitude, expression contorted in a wince.

Aylin wasn't supposed to be there, she had been warned that the infirmary and the surrounding areas were no place for her while things were still so new and everyone's emotions were still heightened, but she had not listened and had gone anyway, wanting to lend a hand any way that she could. She was on her way to the infirmary when she noticed Timur, and she had every intention to just keep walking, knowing that she was probably the last person he wanted to see, but when she witnessed him doubling over in pain she hid behind one of the columns, watching on as he exposed the red blood staining his bandage, hurrying over to him. "Timur, you're hurt--" she murmured softly, lending him a hand not sure if he would take it as she looked on. "Let me help you.. please..."

Adriana captivated the hearts of the people of Wolin from the moment she was introduced to the world by the former Grand Duke and Duchess. Carrying a torch and keeping herself mostly covered by the cloak over her head and around her shoulders she made her way to where Cedric was, coming close to the bars and holding the torch up so that she could see him and see for herself that he was alright. Reaching for his hand she could barely touch him but she did her best to make any kind of contact as she held the light up, her eyes staring into his. "Cedric..." she murmured, the helplessness evident in her voice as she looked at him. He didn't deserve this, none of them did. "Of course I had to come. How could I not? I had to make sure that you are alright..." she said, her voice just above a whisper as she looked around, wishing there was something more that she could do. "What are they doing to you all here? Have they harmed you in any way?"

the walk back to their chambers was quiet, with aurora holding onto her sister’s hand the entire time. of course, the questioning of the sisters had been gentle and far kinder then the staff of france were — but that didn’t make it any less nerve if anything, it made aurora more nervous that they had received such obvious special treatment. she waited until they were in their chambers, door closed and footsteps receding before she turned to genevieve.

“ are you alright, gennie? “ aurora asked her sister. she knew physically they were both okay — but she also knew a certain french guard her sister had eyes for was down in the cells; and she could only imagine how genevieve was feeling. not to mention aurora’s own thoughts, about france’s future and what it meant for them. they began plaguing her the second they were treated differently then the rest of their country — something the constitutional monarchy was supposed to prevent.

Genevieve had hardly even been fully present at the questioning, giving them half answers when her mind was fully on the fact that Cedric had been taken to the dungeons as well as the rest of their court. How can this be any kind of justice? How can they think that they all have something to do with what happened?" she asked, her voice hushed as she continued to pace around the room practically wearing down the floor under her feet. One of the the last two Medicis on earth, Bianca was raised by her older sister Araminta.
