Back in October I made my first *real* music video. It was an incredible experience and the final result is out of this world. It stars the extraordinary @evelinkembe and was conceived with and lovingly executed by the killer team at @ravenmediahouse -> director: @btmccarrell_rmh dp: @ryanpham.dp gaffer: @kailmd and key grip: @8bit.photog 🟦 Can't wait for you to see it.

Making Overture was the first time i sat with a midi keyboard and a laptop and made something without a guitar in my hands. Of course I layered guitar back in eventually, but the groundwork was laid with my ears and not my hands. Overture is a starting point, a far wall on one side that has allowed The Auxiliary to center itself in a new space. Thank you to Lawson White for making me do it.

Overture is out tonight at midnight. It has been a long time since I have released music and I'll admit to being a little anxious. For those of you that have been with me from the beginning, Overture might seem like a radical change of direction. For me, Overture and The Auxiliary represent a new era of music making where the dogmas of genre and form don't dictate where the art can lead. It's both exciting and slightly terrifying. Let's go there together.

Before COVID, before the insurrection, before we took to the streets to demand racial justice, before the spiraling stress of the last two years, Paul Storey took this photograph of me. I’m not sure I’m the same person that I was in this photo. But this is where we meet The Auxiliary - with a song also recorded in the before times. ‘Overture’ is about prescience: “human anticipation of the course of events.” Maybe this guy knew more than I remember. Overture by The Auxiliary is coming January 28.
