Meet The Betta Boys

Allow me to introduce my boys, Crowley, Castiel and Gabriel! This blog will consist of pictures of them as well as other forms of betta love! I'm fairly new to the fishblr community so feel free to send me any questions, advice, or messages!

Hello again everyone! I hope you all are having a great summer! I just wanted to give you a little update. I’m doing good, just preparing for college next year and spending time with family and friends before I’m away. I just wanted to let you guys know that I’ve got a person blog called @wayward-wanders that’s new and I am going to try very hard to be more active on. So if you want to keep up with me, I recommend following that blog and shooting me some messages if you’d like. I’m afraid that my life is about to get very busy, and I won’t have much time left to write fanfiction, but I don’t want to lose touch with you guys either. Solution? A personal! i just wanted to say, after reading through your blog - you're like... really nice. a lot of the fish tumblrs yell at people when they get information wrong, but you are genuinely sweet and helpful. so thanks for that! it makes asking questions not quite as frightening.

Thank you so much for saying that. I know how intimidating the fish community can be. You never really know how someone is going to react to a question, so I try to always make sure people feel welcomed here. No one learns from being yelled at or belittled. So thanks anon, you’re pretty nice yourself.

My betta fish Mars is a halfmoon betta with a habit of biting his fins. He's in a heated 5.5 gallon with weekly 50% water changes. Half his tank is filled with plastic plants w/ rounded edges, the other half is open water. How do I get him to stop?

I’m sorry to say that I don’t know if you can. Unless you could find another factor that is bothering him, like perhaps testing the water quality, then you may not be able to help him. The only other thing I could think of is that he’s getting bored and then you could try moving around his plants every once and awhile to give him more to explore!

What kind of tanks do you have your bettas in??

They are Marineland 5 gallon crescents! I like these a lot because they are roomy, durable and come with a fantastic light! After I bought Castiel I went for 3 other 5 gallon tanks just to try and change things up but ended up not liking any of them for one reason or another and went back to what I had for the other boys.

I got a blue & black half moon today and can't decide on a name , Edwin or Blue Boy or do you have any ideas???

do you think it's bad to rename a betta that you've had for a while? i bought him, thinking he was a girl because that was his label at Petsmart.

Nah, I think if you prefer another name just go for it! Unlike dogs, your betta won't get confused by the change!

Hey! Sorry to bug you, but can you suggest some betta fish decorations? My betta fish has been biting his tail and my guess is from boredom. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them! Thank you so much!

Hi! Don't worry, you're not bugging me at all. I'm happy to help! I recommend big leafy silk plants that he can swim through or any plants with smooth edges that he can swim through. He may also appreciate a cave or something to swim through or hide in when he wants time to relax like a log, cave or even some clean pvc pipes (Crowley adores these). If you want more specific recommendations of what to get, let me know but really he'd probably just like some things to keep him entertained. Try rearranging them every once and awhile too!

So I have a little male betta currently in a 2.5 gallon tank. I want to move him to a bigger tank, and I've currently got a 5 gallon long tank and a regular 20 gallon tank that're going unused at the moment. I'm thinking about live plants and maybe a rubber lip pleco (only if I put him in the 20 gal). Any ideas/advice/whatever?

Hi! If you've got the resources, I think the 20 would be great for your boy! My only advice would be to make sure there are plenty of plants so he feels secure and not too exposed. Honestly though it sounds like he's gonna love all the extra space! As for the pleco, I don't know much about them or what they'd need, so I would research that to be sure before you purchase one.

So i want to get a Betta soon but I want to make sure I do everything right to make him as happy and healthy as possible! Would you be able to give me some advice as to what to do for his tank? Thank you 😊

Absolutely! It is recommended that you get a tank 2.5 gallons or larger (preferably larger). Make sure to buy a heater, plenty of live, silk or smooth plants for him to play in, and a cave or other hide for him to feel safe in. You should also make sure you have a lid as many bettas will jump from the tank! My favorite brand of food is the omega one betta pellets as they're packed with a lot of nutrients and the boys love them! Make sure to cycle your tank first and do weekly water changes to keep up the water quality and you'll have one happy fish on your hands! All artificial! Mostly silk, some smooth plastic plants though too!

Hello! Saw the your answers to the anon and blood worms. But I am wondering, I have been feeding pellets in the morning and worms at night, is this too frequent? How frequent should I feed the worms? Thanks for the help!

Hi! Personally, I would only feed them a few few times a week as a bonus snack. You should also check to see if they're freeze dried as these have been known to cause bloating. Thanks for asking!
