I know that I usually write about my own experiences and how I experience things through other people — though I wish to make a massive disclaimer about this blog. Since I’m writing about personal experiences, I’m going to be writing about what choices and decisions that I would take or have taken. If any of these things do not align with your morals, values or virtues, awesome! We all have something different; it’s how our minds think and how we choose to conduct ourselves. No one can think like you or be like you. Although this may seem like a curse, I can assure you it’s definitely it’s more of a blessing. Some people contact me and say, “I don’t actually agree with this or you know that blog post when you mentioned… that didn’t fully connect with me.” It brings me a sense of joy as it shows initiative and critical thinking as you’ve come to a conclusion on a topic which may have challenged you. I think that is a huge step in the right direction. This isn’t just a platform for me to continually improve myself and understand my current identity, it’s more so to do with giving everyone else the ability or framework to cultivate a better understanding of oneself. I truly believe self-awareness and knowing who you are at the core are easily two of the most important things in the world hands down. I urge you to spend some time of the day to yourself with no distractions of any kind: no Internet, no phone no music, no books. Just you and your undivided attention. Focus and assess how your mind reacts. I can guarantee you will begin to understand yourself at a much more enhanced level. Question why you do things or act in a certain way.
Have you recently been feeling a particular way? If so, is it down to you not behaving in your own best interests? I get that family, friends and the very many connections we hold dear to ourselves may be a reason for taking actions which may appease others. This needs to stop! Imagine you have a glass full of water. After every action you take to contribute to another individual, you lose a bit of water each and every time. Eventually after carrying out all of those things you have now put yourself so low in the pecking order that you have barely any water for yourself. You may begin to realise that you are feeling very distressed, angry, upset and a plethora of other negative emotions. You need to also recognise that this is your fault and you need to take full responsibility for your actions. You chose to give away your water, and consequently, there is very little remaining for yourself as you believed that the best thing to do was to give it away. Once you acknowledge the aftereffects of your behaviours, I can guarantee you will proceed to undertake more actions for yourself. However, if you don’t agree with the premise or believe your supply of water is overflowing, that’s great! Feel more than welcome to help others. Don’t get me wrong, I do get a tremendous amount of fulfilment from providing support for others. Nevertheless, this feeling was much better when coming from a place whereby I was able to serve myself at a higher level before choosing to assist others.
Yes, as you can see I kind of cheated on today’s blog. Unfortunately, I have just been super busy, and things really haven’t been in my favour, but the show must go on! Today I made chocolate chip brownies, they were really delicious though that was a given (I’m a pretty good chef even if it’s self-proclaimed). Something I noticed whilst making the brownies was that the journey of making them was by far the most rewarding aspect of the whole “create the brownies” destination. This seems to be something we lose touch with especially since we become attached to the outcome of certain events and circumstances, “I want the girl or guy”, “I want the fame, I want lots of money.” It’s great to see that you have established some goals and you are willing to act forthrightly to get the things you want. However, if you get too hooked up on the result then you’re going to shift into the mindset of “What’s the next best thing?”. Although being goal-driven can be massively successful for some if we fail to fully reap the rewards from what we’ve accomplished and more importantly reflect on how they were accomplished we can down the rabbit hole of let’s hit the next target. In everything we do, we can learn to improve or alter the way we went about it — not only to achieve better results but to understand the significance of our actions. So, I implore you when looking to do things ensure you detach yourself from the outcome, because you may face disappointment when things don’t go as expected, albeit that is perfectly fine. In fact, if it doesn’t go as intended look to why that was the case and enjoy the moments you had whilst it was going your way. Life is far too short to be dwelling on outcomes which didn’t go according to the script and it’s far too long to resent how things didn’t go your way. It’s as if you have a backpack full of bricks whilst on a marathon — just let that sh*t go!
Looking back on the last few days, I feel as if I have understood the tendencies of the mind drifting and having the power to step on the negative thought train. As I slowly began to see this reoccurrence, I have been able to adapt to it much better than I once did. Just relax and step off the train on the next platform, there’s no need to stay on it till it decides to terminate as that’s going to take a while.
Despite making up for the days you’ve missed try your best to go back to the one blog post per day scheme, variables are constantly changing around us, but you have the power to keep the things important to you to continue to be constant.
