when i was a little kid (age 8 and on) i had 3 veryyy intense special interests i constantly infodumped about to anyone who gave me the time of day. these were:

The Bubonic Plague

Vampire Folklore

Tree frogs.

So as you can imagine my mom spent many years prepping me for social outings by doing a call-and-response litany with me that went "let's focus on tree frogs tonight. let's tell people about tree frogs."

I don't know a good term for it, but there's a certain quality a work of fiction can have or fail to have, where, as a reader, you have some faith that the themes present in the work are there because the author knowingly put them there. That the curtains are not just blue, that you're reading something that has been written with intent. You can, of course, still do a death-of-the-author read on that kind of work, and no work only contains that which the author intends. But there are some works in which you look at even the most surface-level thematic content and wonder 'are... are you doing that on purpose? It kind of doesn't seem like you're doing that on purpose. I hope you're not', and it's very hard to express the difference between that kind of thing and an author who is clearly very intentionally exploring something a little uncomfortable.

sad news, my son Crispin Shopify III saw a picture of me when i was breastfeeding him as a baby. the psychiatrists all agreed that exposure to this act which is potentially incestuous and sexual was equivalent to infinite permanent sexual trauma, and so we've decided to euthanize him and just start again from the beginning. hopefully i wont fuck it up again this time. god bless.

hugeeeee fan of Bruce complaining- especially at the beginning- about the Justice League to his Robins and them just slowly realizing that the things he's complaining about are things they do.

"Hm? Clark? Oh, yeah. He's fun, I suppose, he's just a little too energized. I've never once seen him slow down."

"Guy Gardener? I mean... he's okay at his job but really, he's got too much of a temper and is too impulsive."

"Listen, I love J'onn (and not just because he might be reading my thoughts rn) but sometimes that man is too curious."

"Sorry did you just talk to me about fucking Hal Jordan? Yeah. No. That man talks way too fucking much."

"Diana? She's... nice I suppose, I can tell she has a good heart, but she can get a little intense and violent sometimes. Very controlled by her own emotions, as much as she tries not to be."

And this can either go one of two ways- either the Kid he's talking to confronts him and says a joking "But B, I do that." And Bruce sits there stunned for a minute as he digests that before saying quietly, "But... it's different for you. I like it when you do it."

Or- the batkid just quietly realizes this and internalizes it and... yk. Angst potential.

You start A Memory Called Empire and think ‘Damn, Yksander was too interesting and hot and bisexual, they had to kill him’, and you end the book knowing Yksander was too interesting and hot and bisexual, they had to kill him. Too bad we don’t get to see how the most powerful and politically shrewd throuple in all of Teixcalaan was when Yksander was still alive
