Complexity Executed by Octopus Predicting the death of The Deep wasn’t proof of good writing; it was proof the writers turned him into a scheduled humiliation machine. He wasn’t a character anymore; he was a punchline with gills. The show didn’t give him an ending...it gave him a juvenile punishment fetish with tentacles because the audience had been trained to drool for revenge candy. Consequence is not the same thing as storytelling. A writer with real balls would have judo-thrown the audience right there: let the tentacles come, and then let him brutally, selfishly obliterate the attacking sea animals. Sometimes the guilty man survives. Sometimes the bastard swims away. I miss my wife so badly. Idk why he was done so dirty. I get it in a way but also I can’t really just turn my mental illnesses off and make myself hate the deep. It’s not how it works. I love him dearly. But I still want to punish him.
