Roadie story about Tom Delonge
(from Reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/7oix65/comment/dsa33a2?st=JC5QLQ7H&sh=ac13f780 ) I worked on the road for a production company (staging/lights/sound) we did fadhion shows, concerts, big speeches, events, etc. As a sound tech and generally being in charge of on stage monitoring I spent a lot of time directly involved with person of interest "X". We core crew were always told. "No fanboy questions, no autographs, no pictures, no talking unless adressed by "X". (This was especially true for the VH1 and Maxim fashion shows.) Worked with countless BIG names in the music industry and never once broke the rule even though on more than one occasion I had been on crew for an artist I really enjoy. (Stained, Frankie Valli, Snoop Dogg) Then this one show at Penn State... We were setting up for Angels and Airwaves, with a pair of local opening acts. I was admittedly rather frustrated after being short strawed into final check and light focus, having been awake for nearly 30 hours. This meant another 2 hours before I got food and rest before curtains. I finished up and walked back to hospitality to get some grub. Luckily the buffet was full and the dining room they has setup was empty. I got some food and sat down. No more than 3 minutes into chewing my food passed and in walks Tom Delonge. He walks to the food, grabs a plate, walks over to the table I'm at and sits down across from me. I should preface this with that there is seating for 150 in this room. He had options. Then just as if we were old friends he just jumps right into "So I was thinking about all the people that make our shows seem like magic and I saw you making adjustments to the lights on stage, but you just pointed and said 'over there' or 'you dim, you brighter' and the lights just responded! Are you magic? Are you an alien?" From there we chatted about how I was not in fact an alien, conspiracy theories in general (one about a military ship that phases out and half the crew gets stuck halfway in between decks and in bulkheads..) and life on the road. He gave me advice on doing yoga, eating less meat, and jerking off a lot. We must have talked for 45 minutes before having to get back to work. Later during final sound check I had to yell a question to the FOH sound guy and Tom over hearing it yells out "better listen to him, hes an alien, he told me so". And later while gearing out one of his guitars was left onstage in its case but clearly being ignored so I made sure his tech saw. The tech motioned for me to grab the case and bring it to him. As i reached for it outbof my left ear I hear "DON'T! TOUCHING THAT GUITAR MIGHT GIVE YOU AN ERECTION!" Tom is now jogging up behind me, and as he gets closer he sees me and immediatley stops in his tracks and goes "Oh its the alien. Its cool everyone, nothing to see here." Best celeb experince ever.
