Intro post

Hello, I'm Rain! I'm the host of The Folklore System. Bodily we're somewhere between 25-35.

While we are seeing a therapist (and several therapists have confirmed to us that we have a dissociative disorder), we have not yet gotten an official diagnosis yet.

I made this blog to have a safe space where we can talk about our experiences, and also hopefully help other systems by sharing what we know!

All systems (and non-systems) welcome, though some posts are NSFW (especially if Poison is positing) so I'm not comfortable with minors following me.

Important things to note about this blog:

Use of names: All names used on this blog (whether alter names or the names of individuals in our lives) are fake/pseudonym. This is to protect our identity, since several alters within this system aren't comfortable with the system's identity being public knowledge.

What type of system we are All the experiences we talk about, are linked to us being a  traumagenic OSDD system with diagnosed c-PTSD. We have one host (Rain) who is primarily responsible for day-to-day life, and many alters who can switch/front to help out. We also have several persecutors. While Rain doesn't black out when others front, they do experience brain fog. This is not professional medical advice

I am not a medical professional and what I write about should not be prioritized over the advice of medical professionals.

Advice we may write about, are things that works for us/our specific kind of system. It will not be relevant for all kinds of systems.

The easiest way to trick my persecutors who are keeping their identities a secret, into finding a name or telling me their name + revealing themselves to me, is to just give them a really stupid nickname that they hate. It's been the nr 1 best way to make them find a proper name so I can identity them!

We're reading Mistborn book 3 and Chains really likes Cett. Cett just had a line about how great it is to swear all the time, and for one second Chains and Scythe looked at eachother in agreement for the first time ever

Lmao I'm working on setting up alter profiles for newer alters, and when I was setting up the profile for a persecutor (Hex) I wrote that people don't need to worry about his signs of fronting because he has never fronted — and haven't shown any desire to front — since I met him

Whelp. Guess who kicked me out and possessed my body to correct that information himself.

Just started reading Mistborn book 3, and I must say Sovereign absolutely LOVES the prologue so far; he has a soft spot for brutal torture in media <3

We're not even done processing Poison breaking up with his abusive vampire Master Soother last night, and ALREADY we have a new abusive-romance based persecutor who possessed my body against my will to put on this fucking song to announce himself

Can we get a break for two fucking seconds before we get a new intense toxic romance persecutor??????

Chains is a bit cross with me because he had the perfect opportunity to front with a couple of my friends earlier today, but I wasn't comfortable so I didn't let him.

Since he got out of The Contract (basically jail) he has been good. And one of the things that got him into the contract in the first place was that he -- at several times -- tried to forcefully front to send messages to my friends (but back then it was to intimidate/manipulate them and to exert control over me)

He's sent a couple messages to my friends in recent times (with my consent) and he's had a cheeky-villainous attitude, but otherwise it's been fine, so it should be fine to let him talk to my friends in person

It's just always difficult for me to introduce a new alter to my friends, and Chains being an ex-persecutor just adds a couple extra layers to that

i woke up at 6am today and I've just been woozy and exhausted all day. I've managed to get stuff done, but it's been a STRUGGLE.

Sooooo I'm just thorwing in the towel and taking my sleep meds now, even though its just the afternoon. I'd love to just take a nap, but lately I've been bombarded with alter activity whenever I've tried to lie down, so I'd rather pass out alltogether and wake up refreshed, than deal with that

I will say, it is fun to have redeemed persecutors who are based on villains, because even if they're more safe now, they still phrase their sentences in villainous ways.

Just had a deep conversation with Sovereign where we reflected on his past, that ended with Sovereign taking my hand and saying:

"But, I'm here to protect you now." before immediately following that up with "You're more useful to me alive than dead."

I couldn't help but laugh and say "Damn that's the most you way to phrase that." and he just smiled, said "You have to let me act like myself." and winked.

Something I've thought about here and there (ESPECIALLY after I started to experience fusions in December) is that prior to me finding out I'm a system in November, I don't think there's ever been a fusion in here.

Which is why I'm polyfragmented.

Prior to me reaslizing I was a system, alters lived very solo and sepperated (with some exceptions, like Sovereign being Scythe's personal persecutor). Some alters were vaguely aware of eachother, but even Scythe (who's been my Primary Protector for years) only knew about 23-24 alters total in December. Our actual total is unknown, but at this point it's safe to say that number's likely tenfold.

Then, after I found out and started to actievely engage with my alters, "new" alters have awakened shown up on the daily. However, any "new" alter has been here for YEARS, as the majority of them have assumed we're still stuck in 2013-2015.

I've had a lot of traumatic and/or overwhelmingly stressful experiences in my life, and my psyche's not very robust, so I've split countless times ever since I was 2 years old (as that's my ealiest memories of traumatic events)

The only thing I'm left wondering though, is why some splits over the years have felt viceral (where I've — prior to even knowing about this — physically felt myself becoming a sepperate being, and that being permanently splitting off from me) and why the majority of them were so invisible I barely noticed I was dissociating at all

So Poet (recent ex-persecutor) fused with Poison the other day, and I've noticed that when it comes to social interractions with external people and alter cooperation in social settings, nothing's changed at all and Poison's still kind and charming on that front

But when it comes to solely internal alter-interractions, Poison has regained a minor level of selfishness. Which is actually a good thing!

In our system, if an alter no longer feels like themself and they don't have much to do in the system, they'll chose to give up their life and fuse with someone else.

Ever since I found out I was a system in November, I've really fallen for Poison and I enjoy having him close to me on the daily; he makes me feel really safe when he's here. But also, after some really traumatic and intense fusion experiences between December and January, I've become terrified of the thought Poison (or any of my major alters) fusing and going away forever. Because of this, I've done all I can to make sure these major alters have as much to do as possible.

This... has backfired.

I've ended up putting every major alter (especially Poison and Peppy) in a lot of situations that are out-of-character for them, which hasn't made them grow; it's just made them miserable because they're pushed to do things that arent relevant to their jobs.

A big one for Poison is that I've encouraged him to do a lot of house work in the past. But as my primary *sexual* protector, doing the dishes and cleaning out the trash isn't exacly a part of his job description.

I was hoping that this would help keep him relevant so he wouldn't go away, but (and Poison has told me this many times) a Primary Sexual Protector will always be a relevant job, and he's always had this job. Asking him to do house work just ended up "thinning him out" for no reason.

This all came to a heads in May for him, and shortly after both Peppy and Torch also had breakdowns where they reflected on how miserable they've become for acting too much like a day-to-day human of this world.

I've gotten better at respecting their boudaries, and they've gotten better at setting them. Which brings us back to the start of the post:

Poet fusing with Poison and giving his persecutor-level selfishness to Poison, means Poison feels more like he used to feel back in November, and it's easier for him to set boundaries for himself. His general selfishness does sometimes make him act like a bit of an asshole, but also that's part of who he's supposed to be — when he feels like himself, he's overall more stable and is able to protect us as well as possible.
