The minute Tighnari sent the text message, he heard a knock on the door. Well, more like pounding.

When Tighnari flung open the door, he saw Cyno with a confused, yet concerned look on his face. Almost like one of a puppy.

"Are you alright honey? Your message seemed important so I rushed right over."

❝Coming, coming. Wow, you’re quick.❞ Tighnari called, racing to the door so Cyno didn’t knock it down.

❝…❞ Tighnari couldn’t help but sigh, then smile as he ushered Cyno in.

It was a halfhearted smile, usual for Cyno to see.

❝I’ll just tell you right off: you know my sibling, Naila—otherwise known as Nail? Who I split up with because of difference of opinion on the Akademiya? Yeah, well, I just got a letter from her.❞

Tighnari walked over to the circular dining table in the large hut. He passed Cyno the letter as he sat down, messaging his temples.

Tighnari’s feelings were clear enough with his ears flat against his head yet also unmoving, and his tail straight down and bristling.

"What can I say Nari, I'm speed personified." he says with a deadpan expression on his face. Cyno rarely smiled, and the only times he did were when he was joking around and having fun with his boyfriend. But this wasn't the time for humour of any kind.

"Naila, hm." as Cyno sat down, he pursed his lips in though as he tried to recollect his fuzzy memories, sitting down next to Nari and taking his hand in his own.

"You certainly have mentioned her, and the difference of opinion. What could the letter possibly have?"

Tighnari quietly huffed a laugh at Cyno’s quip.

❝You can read the letter, it won’t bite, Cy.❞ Tighnari nudged it closer, hoping he would ooen it of his own volition.

❝It’s probably nothing bad from your perspective…but,❞ Tighnari breathed in and out, trying not to let through the lanic he ha been in for the past hour until he had messaged Cyno, ❝She wants to meet. And I know it sounds good, but…I still hate the Akademiya, he still works for them and is a Sage assistant. I mean I know there are okay ones now but it’s still majorly corrupt in my opinion.❞

Cyno picked up the letter from the wooden table, opened its flap, and pulled out the piece of parchment from inside it, poring over it. It was very detailed, the handwriting neat and precise and the details all covered in a way that was crisp and clear.

"You're right, I don't see anything bad." he commented, furrowing his eyebrows. He didn't know what he was supposed to do. He intertwined his fingers through Tighnari's hands. "Alhaitham works for the Akademiya, you don't seem to have a problem with him. And so does Sethos at this point. And...so did I."

"I get you don't like them, and I can completely respect that. But I see no reason to hold a grudge with your sibling, no less. I'm sure he still cares for you a lot, Nari"

❝Mm. I thought you may say that. I know it seems hypocritical, but remember, originally when I decided to cut ties with the Akademiya as an institution I had no intention of abandoning her. I was newly 20, trying to figure myself out, battling my feelings for you and figuring out who I want to be and what I want to do. She was the one who said I was being hypocritical to not think about the fact they already worked for them.❞ Tighnari shook his head. He knew he had no need to tell Cyno about why—he doubtless already knew—but he still did to be clear.

❝And I’m not trying to pick a fight or anything. Just sharing my side. Last thing I’d want is to fight with you.❞ To prove his point, Tighnari leaned over and kissed Chno’s cheek.

❝I know. I care too, they’re my sibling and the reasoning for why we did this is to see each other in a good light, not filtered through the lens of our opinions.❞

"I suppose the cause of the conflict is on her then," Cyno muses, tapping his chin "I don't really see how you were being a hypocrite to him in any way Nari, I...wish I had more advice on how to deal and have a good relationship with your siblings, but I'm having problems of my own."

Cyno's face colored the slightest at the tiny peck "I don't mean to start a fight. You know how terrible I express my emotions, or comprehend them."

"And I'm glad you do. So maybe, just maybe, give them a chance?"

❝Oh. My apologies, Cy, I didn’t mean to pin the blame on her. Just incase you forgot what I told you about how it went down…❞ Tighnari’s face was tight, his ears straining as they stayed pinned.

I just wanted…support,❞ at the last word, Tighnari’s tail flocked an inch, annoyingly for him, signifying he would benefit from care, emotional or physical he couldn’t tell and to tell Cyno would be too obvious.

❝And…your having issues with Sethos? Can I hell you in any way?❞ at Cyno’s inclination of having issues himself, Tighnari turned toward him, giving his Mate his full focus, nearly dropping the subject of Naila just to help Cyno.

❝Ahem…Sorry, I wasn’t trying to accuse you of starting a fight either. You’re just trying to assist me. Which is one of many things I love about you: problem solver.❞

Tighnari sighed softly at Cyno’s last words. He grabbed his mug, tracing the edge. The calming blend wasn’t working at all.

❝Maybe. Maybe. I’ll send a reply in the morning if I can and depending on the outcome maybe I’ll pay her a visit wherever she lives. I’m taking you with me though, even if it’ll make an awkward first meeting. Still can’t believe you never met her when we were in the Akademiya…❞

Apon on the mention of his 'brother' his face fell even more "Sethos...its nothing. Forget I said it. I'm probably just overthinking."

"Really? I'm afraid I'm not doing a very good job at it... heh."

"I'm quite surprised myself, honestly. Especially with my status at the Akademiya. However, perhaps I had met her, and she just hadn't mentioned her name. Plus, my memory of my acadmiya days are very hazy, probably from the effect of the spirit."

"Say, what are your thoughts of asking for Colleis opinion on the situation?"

❝You’re fine, Cy. You’re fine.❞ Tighnari, however, for all he was saying, still clung to Cyno, nuzzling his head against his Mate’s neck.

His tail twitched once more, though his ears stayed pinned.

❝You sure? You’ve only known him this long, you shouldn’t be feeling frustration so soon.❞ Tighnari softly mumbled before he began to stoke up and down Cyno’s spine with his knuckles.

❝Oh, you… Shut it, or I’ll do it for you.❞ Though his words would normally have a playful, flirty bite, the only tone that came through was a hair of Tighnari’s worry. It was sarcastic and dull more than anything.

❝That is possible. The few times I talked with her on shift before she treated me like anyone else. Not her younger Brother.❞ Tighnari restrained himself from using the Fennec version of the word. It was too close to home for right now.

❝You do remember she doesn’t know I have a sibling, correct?❞ Tighnari turned his head so his words were clearer. He kissed Cyno’s neck softly before continuing, still hugging. ❝I…don’t know. I know for certain she’d hear me out but I think she’d try to get us to make up, and as much as I live her hopefulness and as happy as I am she still has that light…I don’t know how much is salvageable. They and I are entirely different people than ten years ago.❞

Tighnari sighed, pulking back from his spot against Cyno’s chest to look him in the eyes. Cyno’s hands were still on him though, grounding him.

❝I mean…I don’t know, I guess you could try. I don’t think I’m in a good mood to do so. At the very least she shouldn’t be able to get used to seeing me like this.❞ Tighnari gestured around vaguely, eyes darting down for half a second before they returned to Cyno.

Before he could stifle it, the smallest, quietest of whimpers escaped him, deathly loud to his ears, which nearly drooped more if possible.

"It's..it's not me feeling frustration per se." Cyno grumbles under his breath, but more of in a way that shows how upset he felt rather than any anger. "I feel like he's mad at me or something. It feels like he's always been...no, mad isn't the word. Maybe frustrated? Angry? He has some sort of negative feelings towards me, but he doesn't show it. I don't know if it's just me, or if I'm overthinking things, but never mind that. We can talk about it later."

Cyno found himself tensing up under Tighnari's dullness. It wasn't a good sign, it wasn't a good sign at all. "It is what's required for the job after all, unfortunately." he sighed dejectedly "it's only to keep the people closest to us safe."

He stroked Tighnari's left cheek affectionately as the other kissed him "You're right. Maybe it isn't salvagable. But maybe it is. You may, no, you will come to regret it later if you don't at least attempt to converse with her. It might give you more peace of mind, no matter how it turns up."

Cyno put his hands around Tighnari's waist and pulled him closer "I'll try my best. She's a smart girl, I'm sure she'll be able to understand. But Nari, we're all human. Or fennec...you know what I mean. It's only natural to lose our composure from time to time. Hiding it won't make you feel any better."

He pulled Tighnari closer to him as his heart broke into a million pieces.
