“Well you shouldn’t have spoken to me in such a tone Tanaka…” Byakuya merely frowned deeply in response to his statement.

“Unless you want my help then you should not speak to your leader in that type of tone. Just because I consume food on a regular basis does not mean you should speak to me like that.” Apparently Saonji wasn’t the only person who poked fun at his large amount of mass. “Tanaka, now that i’ve taken notice of your skinny body, you’re very skinny. If this were an ice filled island then you would get hypothermia and die off. Frankly you should eat more..” Apparently he was just going off topic from there last discussion about the breeders hamsters to how skinny Gundham apparently was. Crossing his arms over his large chest he merely scowled more. “If you were like me then you’d be a sauna, but right mow you’re a skinny underweight looking commoner.” Togami chill-

“Leader?” he scoffed “I would hardly wave such a title around in front of the supreme overlord of ice. Especially since i consider your leadership a temporary measure used to merely organise the masses. I answer to no one.”

“The size of my body is none of your concern. This earthly vessel will transport me through my time on this earth and I will treat it how I choose. I simply noted yours as a means of identifying the primary food consumer, not as a petty insult. I bare those of larger stature no more ill intent than anyone else, I simply choose not to join them.” he explained. “I don’t need to be a sauna. Such a proposition is ridiculous. Togami all I demand from you is to cease with your treatment of others’ consumables, I am wasting my breath on mindless drivel talking to you of our body types, all you must do is consider my threat next time you choose to grab a treat.”

He’s about five seconds away from freaking out and them just having a cuddle session instead. That’s five whole seconds better than last time. She’s impressed.

“M-my animals?” he spluttered nervously, having not considered the possibility that there would be implications of his lack of hygiene upon his friends. “N-nonsense!” he continued “my dark forces are not affected by such trivial earthly based diseases…” He cleared his throat as he trailed off, showing a not-oft seen timid side of him. “However, it is possible that I may be able to reduce my power if even only for a short while. I cannot guarantee the earth will survive, but such experiments are necessary if I’m to progress to world domination.” he took a deep breath. “I give you permission, mortal, to remove these most unholy of bandages.” he exclaimed, sighing as he presented his bandaged arm toward the nurse.

“I a-appreciate you…giving me permission, Tanaka-san.” Mikan murmured. As long as the end result was that she was able to change the bandages she did not mind what his reasoning behind it was, it was not her place to challenge a patient’s ideations. 

When he extended his arm to where it was within her reach she gave the slightest of smiles, reaching out and gingerly beginning to unwrap the cloth that circled around his upper arm. It was a good thing she kept a roll of bandages with her just in case something happened to the ones she donned. She couldn’t help but be surprised and extremely thankful that Gundham was allowing her to change the cloth, it must have been…hard for him to trust her, even though it wasn’t truly out of trust, but out of concern for his animals. 

“If it h-hurts, tell me. I do not want to cause any unnecessary harm, Tanaka-san.” Mikan informed him softly, once the bandages were shed she reached into her apron, securing a fresh roll and hesitating for a moment before she began wrapping up his arm. “S-same goes for if I wrap too tightly. I d-do not want to cut off circulation…”

It was strange how at ease Gundham felt with the whole situation. There was a real reason he kept his hand wrapped up though. Not that he was truly concerned with how he appeared to others, but a large scar like the one he had might give off the impression of weakness. He would never be weak like that again... “If you think you could possibly hurt me, you under-estimate the resilience I built up from the 1000s of years of hellish torture I suffered at the hands of demons in purgatory.” he responded nonchalantly. “Besides, we have little time for such discussions. I cannot suppress the power of my evil arm for much longer.”

Considering how Tanaka had that godlike persona it was only natural that he’d complain to the imposter about some sort of problem with him. Either he got too close or that if he ever spoke to him in such a tone he’d unleash his ‘evil’ hamsters onto him. God they weren’t even evil, they were cutesy in a way. Which was probably the only redeeming quality for him, next to his fluffy looking hair of course. I mean it looked so fluffy-

“Look Tanaka, I didn’t need a lecture about your hamsters being unfed. I’m not there mother am I? So you shouldn’t come crying to me about it..you’re the ultimate breeder are you not? So go take care of them yourselves, unless of course you’re too short to reach the food and need me to get it..”

"Perhaps my breath is wasted on you.” he hissed, with lines of genuine agitation forming on his forehead.

“My devas may indeed thrive on the souls of the damned, and yet their earthly forms require earthly sustenance. My all-seeing eye does not overlook your villainous acts, Togami. You may not be eating their food, but should you continue to misplace others’ food when scrambling to eat your own there will be consequences.” he muttered threateningly. This was the third time he had been forced to spend agonising minutes search for his pets’ treats in a panic and he was fairly certain it was the fault of the large mass of man before him. "I have no sympathy for your insatiable thirst for food if you act so recklessly. When the world is under my control, I don’t anticipate keeping you around very long should you continue to endanger the earthly forms of my hellish companions.”

“Nothin’ new around here, huh? Figures.” He muttered, almost lighting up a cigar as he leaned against a wall in Altambra. The area was usually lively, with either large mutants running around or the usual groups of killseekers. Sometimes, Big Bull’s gang would be out and about. But this was starting to bore Jack.

He stopped, looking down at the unlit cigar for a few moments, before putting both the cigar and lighter away. It had been years, and the painful memory still lingered in the depths of his mind.

It was rare that his tough exterior betrayed him for even a moment, but upon realising he was lost, a hint of a worried look spread across his face. It last only a moment though, as he regained himself and continued to pace defiantly through the unfamiliar streets. It didn’t take long to run across someone who looked like they had some sanity about them, though it also wasn’t Gundham’s style to ask for help. The man leaning against the wall was rather large and had an air of brutality about him and yet perhaps he would respond well to the diplomatic approach. “You there!” Gundham shouted, gesturing toward the man from a safe distance “I have, if only but for a moment, misplaced my otherworldly perception of direction. Should you value your mortal soul, I would recommend you share the name of the land upon which we stand.” he threatened, as he stretched out his back in an attempt to appear as tall and menacing as possible in front of the mountain of a man.

“Change them?? Absolutely I …um” he stuttered a little as he began to think of a scenario that would maintain his arm’s power and hygiene at the same time. “Once the blue moon hits the ocean the power in the arm is temporarily subdued for a period of around seven human minutes while the seal on the dreaded deity of the sea is weakened. During this time I remove the bandages and replace them with another set. These must contain ingredients from a holy tree of which there are only three in this planet…and one is in my garden.” he explained. He looked down at his arm as he saw the nurse examining it from where she was. His bandages were fairly worm at this point and there was no hiding from a trained medical professional that it was the case. “…H-however a blue moon hasn’t struck the ocean in quite a while…” he trailed off.

Mikan’s brow furrowed as she listened to him, her lilac eyes remaining on the bandages. She had no idea of when the last ‘blue moon’ was and hadn’t looked it up, she had had no reason to so there was no possibility of refuting his claim. 

“I…I see, Tanaka-san…” She murmured, “Is there nothing you c-can do to perhaps…temporarily weaken the…the, uhm, deity of the sea temporarily so the bandages can be replaced sooner than the next blue moon? I am concerned f-for your health…” She paused, realizing she may have had a possible card in play, “and for the health of t-the animals you care for. What if there’s something on those bandages t-that is toxic to them and c-could make them fall ill?” She asked softly. 

“N-not that I do not think you are an e-exceptional caretaker for them, but…there could be b-bacteria or various toxins that could harm them if your bandages go without being c-changed for so long. I could change them f-for you if you managed to, uhm, w-weaken the….the deity…”

“A fair question, madame nurse, and I shall answer appropriately. Were these bandages to be removed, my true power could be contained no longer! Power the likes of which this world has never seen would be unleashed, and havoc would rain down upon this earth. My intention is to rule this world, not destroy it, so until the day comes the demons of the underworld come to claim my soul, my arm shall remain sheathed within the walls of this papery prison.”

…what….what was he even saying? It sounded like pure gibberish to Mikan, but she nodded along at the moments in which it seemed appropriate. She didn’t want to offend or anger Gundham, as he was one of the few that seemed to tolerate her. 

“…d-do you ever change the bandages, Tanaka-san? I mean…I apologize for being so…blunt, I know my numerous questions a-are quite bothersome, but…w-what if the bandages get dirty? Do you change them or…or will that release ‘havoc’ u-upon the Earth?” She asked, honestly curious as to what his response would be. “If n-not, I was wondering if I could change them for you, I d-do not want any infections to occur because of soiled b-bandages, Tanaka-san.”

“Ha, but what is a birthday? Simply the anniversary for which I was summoned to this world. It feels close to a failure given that so many years have past and I am still not recognised as the ultimate ruler. Perhaps my next birthday will mark a new era and I shall be king. Until then such things are not worth celebrating….but thank you.”

"Ah, is that so?" he asked, responding to the revelation of her birth date. "That makes sense, it is indeed a human custom to give presents on the anniversary of birth…" he paused for a second in thought. "Perhaps a stray emotion has affected me, as while I desire to adorn you with one of my scarves, I feel like it wouldn’t be fair to disclude Junko from the present giving ceremony. I presume she is your twin, correct? In that case could you perhaps aid me in my mission to also provide her with some form of present?" he requested.

"With regards to your statements of softness, I’d watch your back Miss Ikusaba" he threatened "You never know when the softest of friends can become even softer enemies. As master of all that is soft I will achieve true power over the common conflict known as the ‘pillow fight,’ so I suggest you stop mocking the notion." he demanded, in a tone that was neither serious, nor jovial. "Santa is pure evil, regardless of his name. He banished me from his lists long ago, and the purebred, rich brats of my human childhood were his favoured targets. One that condones the existance of such societal beasts can not, in truth, be my ally." he explained, with a hint of begrudging in his voice.

"Mmm-hmm," Mukuro nodded rather hesitantly. "Not that I’m really used to getting things on my birthday, but I suppose it is nice to receive a gift or two from someone you care about. Also, you can try to give Junko-chan one, but the overall design of the scarf attributes to whether or not she’ll like it."

Listening to Gundam’s extensive vocabulary and overall opinion on Santa, Mukuro chose not to dabble more into it. She stopped believing in the guy some years ago, so, like most things, it was no big deal to her. The Soldier thought for a bit to try and find a different topic that Gundam would like to discuss (as a means of getting to know each other better), but something rather plain came to mind.

"Is there… anything else you like doing other than working with animals?" Mukuro asked, still trying to keep the conversation alive.

"I wouldn't want to anger anyone with a lack of a present, so it's likely I'll find her something to make sure she is included..." he trailed off as he began thinking. He was acting a little out of character, but in truth the whole situation had left him a little confused about a lot of things, including how he should act.

The question took him off guard "w-what else do I enjoy?" he stood there a little speechless for a moment, as he hadn't really thought about the question. "Uh, well, while I'm no passionate about it, I do enjoy combat. The thrill of testing oneself in battle is unmatched, I'm sure you can agree..." he paused and continued to think. "I also have a fascination with unknown knowledge of any form," he eventually continued "I've examined documents for solved murder cases and attempted to figure them out without revealing the culprit to myself. Should I ever be in a situation that requires me to figure such things out, I'll be prepared." he exclaimed, proudly.
