I remember making a post once that was like: “In MWFIV I want Ghost to go off the rails darkside and the 141 have to talk him down” and the trailer came out and it was Price instead. I was like: “Not who I wanted to go darkside but I’ll take it”
*Cracks knuckles*. Alrighty! You said the trigger phrase, so let's do this!! (I'm so sorry.)
I'm very much of the same mind when it comes to who goes down the path of cold rage, even made my own post about it back in the TikTok days; I desperately wanted to see Ghost really let go of his restraint and showcase why he has such a vicious reputation despite his lack of screen time in the original games/lack of information in the remakes.
I also wanted to see the possibility of flashbacks and more in depth dives not only into his history with Johnny, Price, and Gaz, but his backstory in general.
However, I will admit that Price is a very good pick for this.
Price was, after all, the final survivor of the team from the original games and, from what we can tell of the remakes, he had a longer implied history with Soap in this series just like the OGs.
But I will admit that I don't fully trust the trailer when it comes to the Ghost and Price fight, and I'm a touch worried that the Makarov side of things will be handled a bit sloppily, as the devs have expressed the desire to focus more on the new team they've showcased for the MW4 game.
For the Price Ghost bit: Lines were clearly spliced in- post production- to ratchet up the "what if" of it all, and I'm still HIGHLY suspicious about the fact that Gaz (objectively the most competent and put together member of the team- don't @ me, I will fight and die on this hill.) is nowhere to be seen. Meaning this could be a flashback, a misdirect, or the precursor to a death scene for Ghost. He's not anywhere else in the trailers, after all.
But the potential of Price working with Valeria, and Graves possibly making another return, has promise. I think really diving into what Price is doing behind the scenes and showcasing how far he's willing to go to make up for his mistake of letting Maka-boy live could prove to make or break the series, and Ghost is tragically going to be small change in the grand scheme of that possibility. Even if he shouldn't be.
As for the Makarov side: Rumor has it that he's going to be beaten down in a club. A club. Makarov. Supposed grandmaster of planning and timing and strategy. Beaten to death by Price in a club.
Clubbed if you will. Going clubbing. Third pun I can't think of.
This sounds like mafia fanfiction and I'm VERY concerned about how that will be handled. I sincerely hope it's more of a knockdown dragout fight than implied, especially since we see so little of HIM in the trailer as well, but who knows.
Makarov was built up, underutilized, shot Soap dead, and vanished. The payback needs to be not only cathartic for Price, but for the fans as well. And we need MORE of Makarov's brutality and haunting of the taskforce's steps to drive in how big of a threat he always was supposed to be.
I desperately don't want this rushed, and I STILL want to see Gaz pull a proper plot twist and be the one to finish the fight (preferably from the top ropes with a steel chair), but my hopes are very low for that.
Thankfully they'll be going the grounded route with this game (seemingly), so maybe all will be well in the end. AND HOPEFULLY THEY WONT TRY TO MAKE MW 5 THROUGH 20 TO TRY AND UNNECESSARILY MILK THIS THING.
HOW ABOUT A GHOST'S REMAKE INSTEAD? THAT ONE NEEDS SOME DAMN REDEMPTION AFTER THE HARSH RECEPTION IT GOT. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH OF A GOLDMINE KEEGAN AND HIS BROTHERS ARE AMONGST THE MORE DEDICATED AND FERAL SIDE OF THE FANBASE? DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE POTENTIAL???!!!
AND WHERE THE FUCK HAS RAMIREZ BEEN!!???? GIVE ME BACK MY BURGERTOWN DEFENDER!!!
For right now I'm not making any real judgments until the game comes out in October. And I'm not preordering this time since I don't know if my ancient old wheeze box of a PC can even play it.
If they handle it like they handled MW1 and 2, and even BO6, as it had a good balance of absurdity and grounded elements that made for a fun (if underappreciated) campaign... then all's good.
If not. Well. I'm sure we'll be hearing all about it VERY quickly in every corner of the fanbase.
