i’m barely active here. i don’t really see the point in making a new account, so here are all the socials where i am active:

It’s just that S2 introduced memory wipe as a punishment and S3 tried to tell us it’s a good thing.

Jim didn’t love Beelzebub. Gabriel did. He needed his memories for a reason. Anthony doesn’t know or love Aziraphale. He loves a completely different guy. Which is nice and all. But I wanted to see Aziraphale and Crowley happy. Safe. Free. I wanted them to stay in my universe. I thought we shared it!

I get what people mean about their dear ones when they lose memories. I care what people say about their own lost memories. I'd never say they were replaced by another person. But that's not at all what we are talking about here. It's a new universe with brand new people. (Which if determinism is not true and god is gone should not look like the old ones?)

And I am glad if you found comfort and happiness in S3! I wish I did too.

But to me Aziraphale and Crowley are gone - their love started the new universe and I am sure it was powerful enough to be everywhere and all that (I could have maybe even liked it if S3 was done better and I didn't get attached to Aziraphale and Crowley so much). It's just not the ending I craved. Or needed. Or find rewarding. As much as I like a deep philosophical conversation, I just wanted them to have one another. Safely. And for as long as they wished.

The more I think about that ending, the more reasons it bugs me.

The newest one popped into my head as I was waking up, this morning.

The running theme of GO has always been to embrace who you are (Aziraphale's embracing of his love of creature comforts, and of a certain demon... Crowley's constant assertions that he's a demon who has no use for Hell, but still embraces minor acts of mischief... Adam's determination to stay in Tadfield, even when offered the entire world to rule... Maggie's love of a record shop that's essentially failing... And I could go on, but you get the point). But in the end, in that pub scene, what GO ended up saying, was "you can only get a happy ending if you become someone you're not." NONE of those people were actually the selves they'd been the whole series. Not one of them. Instead of finding happiness and peace as themselves, they had to become completely new people, to be happy??

I think that's why so many of us were so instantly bothered by it. The GO fandom has always been largely made up of queer and/or misfit people. Those society has deemed mostly "outside" the norm, at various points. GO told us we were accepted and lovable just as we are. It gave us the safety to explore who we actually were, through the lense of characters who were, themselves, unusual or outsiders. And then, in the end, it ripped away everything that provided safety and community for us, and said "you can only be happy if you conform to the status quo."

Excuse the fuck out of me?? Not just no, but HELL, no.

This is yet one more reason for me to ignore the existence of S3.

The Talk

So, I wrote a little thing. It wasn't really planned but happened anyway. @eklmrlos has this (very smutty) comic going on Patreon and I mentioned that I hoped Crowley had had The Talk with The Bentley beforehand. @eklmrlos seemed quite interested to read something like that, and so my brain does what it does when it's supposed to be doing something else, but then a shiny new idea comes along... Well, now there is a very silly, very not-beta-read little story.

@eklmrlos I hope you like what I did with this. 💜

The Talk

Summary: It has become increasingly clear that Crowley needs to have a serious talk with the Bentley. Crowley is taking Aziraphale to the Ritz, so it has to happen now.

Excerpt:

“So,” he says as they drive the familiar route to the bookshop at a leisurely pace, “we’re taking Aziraphale out for dinner.” The Bentley starts playing ‘Earth Angel’ by The Penguins in celebration. “Yes, exactly,” Crowley says absentmindedly, “and we’re taking him to the Ritz. You know how much Aziraphale loves the food at the Ritz.” A happy little jingle plays for a moment before Earth Angel comes back on. Crowley takes this as a ‘yes’. “Only… You know how exceedingly happy Aziraphale gets, when we take him out for dinner, especially when it’s to places like the Ritz—” Another happy jingle. Where did she get those from, anyway? He’s never used the radio once since he got her. [1] ‘Don’t get distracted, Crowley. Get it over with.’ Crowley clears his throat. “Ever since the angel came back, and we patched things up and became a… uhm, a thing, a group type thing… ah, things have changed a little different from before…” Not the most eloquent Crowley has ever been, but it gets the point across. [2] And things really have changed a lot. Crowley doesn’t mind the changes one bit. And surely the Bentley must have noticed the changes. [3] “Yeah, so, uhm… Aziraphale can get very… uhm, affectionate when I take him out to dinner, you see? And with how we are now, that will most likely involve touching of some kind.” No jingle this time, but the song has ended, and now the Bentley plays ‘Every Time We Touch’ by Maggie Reilly. Does that mean the Bentley understands what he’s talking about? [4]
