I recently remembered this blog’s existence. Jasper x Lapis was my everything back then, and it still means so much to me. I want to write one final, incredibly personal post as a homage to how much this ship has impacted my life. With that out of the way, I’d like to reintroduce myself.
Hi. I’m Ashton J [Surname Redacted]. You can probably guess what the J stands for (character, not the ship lmao). I am 29 years old at the time of writing this (year 2025!). Ex- butch lesbian; now a self-actualized aro/ace transman.
I got into jaspis the day Jail Break aired, then made this blog days before Super Watermelon Island released. This is truly my Forever OTP, no joke.
I was in the worst period of my life while running this blog. I had just become an adult, brought up in an extremely abusive/neglectful home, and had no friends. I was selectively mute, agoraphobic, and reeling from a traumatic event that had happened mere months before starting this blog. I developed CPTSD, which I still struggle with today, but thankfully I have a supportive network of friends who love me and a therapist to help me through it now. I was isolated from the world, assaulted regularly, and attempted suicide several times— all while coping with that traumatic event entirely on my own.
But through it all, I ran this blog. Jaspis was a flicker of light in this dark period. It gave me something to relate to, something to be gleeful about, and it gave me a reason to connect to others when I otherwise couldn’t.
In 2020, I escaped my abusers. The pandemic hit, I lost my job, and I used that loss as an excuse to finally get up and move away. I moved across state lines and to a city, last-minute, and with whatever I could fit into one suitcase. I got a job in that city, but was in perpetual poverty. On top of that, I was still struggling from untreated CPTSD which hadn’t been diagnosed yet, and I didn’t know how to function without my abusers.
In the meantime, I had online friends— people I had kept in touch with from the SU fandom. Many had moved on to other interests, but I’m still in touch with some of these people. Although I had nobody IRL, these friends helped me feel connected and I appreciate them monumentally.
Then in 2022, my life changed.
One of these friends (if you’re reading this, you know who you are) did one of the kindest things anyone could do for another person. She offered to help me get away from that bad situation. Desperate and tired of the life I was living, I took the offer. There was nothing to lose, anyway.
Despite the massive risk, accepting her help was the best decision of my life. The friend helped me move states away, where I could be near her. Once there, she helped me get a job that could actually keep me afloat. She taught me how to drive. She was safe, kind, merciful, and gave me space to recover from 20+ years of trauma. She encouraged me to get screened for PTSD, which I did. I was diagnosed and got help. Although CPTSD continues to be a struggle in my life and likely will for a long time, I can confidently say my agoraphobia and selective mutism are gone.
Healing was rough for the first few months. I was constantly on edge. Constantly afraid of getting hurt. But she never hurt me once. We both shipped jaspis back then, and if jaspis was a light in my life, then this friend was a beacon.
A couple more years passed, and in 2024, my life and mental health had monumentally improved. I even ended up going to a trade school! Graduated one year later, early 2025, and can finally say I have a decent career path ahead of me. The friend and I have since parted ways for our own respective careers, but we still keep in touch and I can even confess she’s one of my closest friends. And it’s wild to think that none of this would have happened if I didn’t ship jaspis.
I’d probably have been dead years ago if I didn’t ship jaspis. Jaspis had kept me going in those dark times. It gave me something to relate to. It gave me community, which eventually led to that friend. Most of all, it gave me hope that there was a light at the end of this tunnel.
And there was.
Thanks for reading. I thank everybody who was here along on this journey throughout the years. Whether as a follower, lurker, or friend. Whether you stayed temporarily or are still here. Regardless, thank you all. I love you, and I’ll never forget this fandom. Dead or alive, it will always be special, and you guys are a big part of why it is.

Realized just today that I never actually posted this brief, dark Lapis/Jasper comic I did for @togetherbreakfast2015 ! Interestingly, depending on how you read the show, this comic was both proven wrong AND validated by canon that came out after the fact. If you’d like to get a copy of Together Breakfast, I’ve listed some in my shop.
