I just reblogged a post but I’m pissed now so I’m going to make my own post. People with BPD have to CONSTANTLY question if we’re being manipulative and abusive, even in the smallest of interactions. Overshared on feeling bad? Abusive shit I should die. Wait. Wanting to die makes me abusive too, and God help me if I tell anyone. So, sometimes, we make tumblr posts telling other people like us that they aren’t inherently abusive, and there’s always at least one asshole who reblogs or comments saying “don’t forget that people with BPD can actually be abusive”. Which is not something we’re about to forget. I spend all day in a panic because I’m probably manipulating and hurting everyone, and I really probably shouldn’t have friends because I’ll just hurt them. WE DON’T NEED REMINDING THAT WE CAN HURT PEOPLE; WE ARE HYPER FUCKING AWARE OF IT
Hyello, here is Jasmine with a friendly note from my DBT therapist:
Borderlines are not inherently manipulative! We were generally raised in an environment where our basic needs ( need for love, need for validation, need to feel safe ) were not met! Because of this, we tend to go to extremes to try and get those needs met. In addition, our extreme reactions tend to be the most effective way to meet these needs.
The extreme measures we take to try and have our basic needs met, coupled with the fact that we tend to feel things so intensely ( my therapist calls it being more passionate than others ) AND our general lack of distress tolerance puts us into Crisis Mode much more often than it does the average non-bpd indivual.
Crisis mode can bring out the worst in us and it puts us into a place where we aren’t willfully acting, rather we are simply reacting impulsively to the situation at hand. It takes a lot of practice and hard work to learn to fight our impulsivity and for the most part, as OP said, we know when we’re being irrational or difficult and we genuinely don’t mean any harm by it. ( we also know this is no excuse for our actions but it is an explanation )
So, long story short, plz be kind to your BPD friends we’re trying very hard and we don’t mean to hurt anyone. We’re humans just like anyone else dealing with life, our overractive brains and a heavily stigmatized personality disorder.

Fun fact: this is Cola, a stray dog who had both front legs hacked off with a machete. He was rescued by the Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket, Thailand and they helped him get this prosthetic legs. He’s been adopted and is living a happy life with his forever family. :) This is also where I adopted my Thai rescue pup from, and they do international adoptions to Canada/USA/UK if anyone is interested in giving a street dog a new home!!!
I need to remember this for when I get a dog!!
