Ben’s gonna be shut down for now. I’ll leave the blog up, mind, but there’s no interaction and story-wise I just can’t get myself to write anything for Ben or his fam. 

P much anybody who’s interacted with Ben is gone at this point and it just kinda sucks logging into his account and knowing there’s nothing to be done here. So for now I’m closing the Ask and Submit boxes and considering Ben as good as offline. Maybe someday I’ll dust him off in the future, but right now, it’s best to just put him in a box and stow it away.]]

“At least the bulk of it is over?” Ben offered, giving Joseph another kiss before grabbing his hubby a mug of coffee.

//I can’t even imagine how ragged I would be if my siblings weren’t here to assist me.  We have so many new patients–entire families!  How did so many people find out where we are?!//

“If you can stay seated for a documentary about something, I can make you some relaxing-time coffee.” Ben bartered, kissing Joseph’s cheek.

Ben moved to lean over Joseph and nuzzle his spouse. “You should rest for now.”

Managing to lean against Ben, Joseph groaned in response.  Back to school season was also rough for the clinic.

“If you can stay seated for a documentary about something, I can make you some relaxing-time coffee.” Ben bartered, kissing Joseph’s cheek.

“And here, we see the Coffee-holic Medic-sapien, in its natural habitat. It looks like the changing of seasons has brought it out of hibernation.”

Joseph lumbered into the living room, drained of motivation to return Ben’s quip.  Someone–not naming any names–hid his coffee supply, so he had to work through the afternoon in the clinic through the sheer force of will power.  

He flopped down into his armchair, arms slumped over the sides haphazardly.  

“Aww, tired hubby.”

Ben moved to lean over Joseph and nuzzle his spouse. “You should rest for now.”

Ben! There's a really weird virus present in a neighboring universe! It's turning robots into monsters!

“...Well. Better hope somebody can do something about that soon.”

“That’s right.” he said with a nod to Anodi before responding to Ben. “There’s probably plenty of people who feel the same way she does. It’s good she’s getting better though~”

As he spoke, he watched Damian manage to escape Anodi’s grasp. Then noticing Aiden making grabby paws for him, he passed the little pokemon to the reploid. “I believe this is yours~?” he said with a grin to Damian.

“Right!” he replied as he returned his attention to Anodi. “Their name is Alcor. They’re quite friendly, though they can never seem to get enough attention.” he explained with a soft chuckle. “Maybe I should bring them by to meet you some time~”

“Yes he is.” Damian replied, taking the Audino into his arms and letting Aiden attempt to scale his chest to get comfortable.

Anodi seemed pleased by that idea. “Splendid~ I’m getting to see what a fascinating life my boys are having now, it’s so much fun!”

Unable to resist it, Star laughed along with the other two at all the puns.

“That they do~” he agreed cheerfully. “And yes. The little ones are precious~ They’re a little on the shy side too. One of them hid behind Joseph when we were introduced.”

At her question, the robot master glanced down to the audino in his arms. Smiling, he gave Aiden’s head a light pat. “I believe they’re called ‘pokemon’.” he answered. “They’re such interesting creatures too! They seem to come in just as much variety as normal animals, yet they’re so different at times. I have one back home that’s like a living bundle of gears!” He still wasn’t entirely sure how that worked, but by now he’d stopped worrying about it.

“Ah, I bet it was Helen right? She’s so sharp but goodness, such a little lady she is~” Anodi laughed.

Ben sighed. “Helen’s getting better though. She just isn’t fond of first meeting new people.” He watched as Damian escaped their creator’s hold successfully and fled to Star’s side, Aiden bleating and grabbing at his mama.

“A living bundle of gears?!” Anodi’s eyes were bright, a grin appearing as Ben projected a blue-tinted hologram of a Klinklang.

“Oh no.” Star replied with mock horror, though a grin was still present on his face. “What have I done! They’re unleashing a surge of puns now!”

As Anodi answered his question, Star enjoyed another sip of his drink before responding. “Oh, I see. That’s really unfortunate…” His earlier amusement faded just a little at that. He tried to remain positive though,. “But hey, at least there’s still two of them around~”

Again Ben and Anodi gave him the finger guns, cackling together. Damian, now having picked up on it, was rolling his eyes and ever so slightly smirking.

“And they’ve got sch a good family.” Anodi mussed her boys’ hair, Ben grinning as Damian looked annoyed. “You know those little ones they’ve got? Oh! And those creatures! What did you call them?” She pointed at Aiden, whom was chewing his paw and snuggling up to Star.

“You two are definitely family.” He stared at the mother and son pair in confusion before replying to Damian. “Don’t worry, I don’t get it either.”

Of course, that was when Fintan chimed in with his thoughts, and then Star understood. “…Ohhh, I made a pun!” He let out a chuckle. “I completely missed that one, haha!”

He gave Anodi a questioning look at her words. “Two of them? Does that mean there was another? Ah–but it’s wonderful they’re fine, even if the project was a bust. They’re both certainly people I’m glad to know~”

“At least the light’s on now.” Anodi was barely able to keep the giggles from bubbling out, though it was a hard fight judging by how rosy her cheeks were turning with the effort to not laugh as she followed up the joke.

Ben was no better, audibly sniffling with mirth, his cheeks puffed up. “You just gotta be wired the right way to notice it.”

“Careful now, if it keeps going the current way, the conversation’ll be too charged up to follow.” Anodi snickered, both she and Ben holding their hands to their mouths as Damian stared at them with muted disgust. “In all seriousness, yes there was a third. The original Lifesaver series registered with the Hunters was three units, but it seems B1 suffered irreparable damage and had to be Retired.”

“Exactly!” he replied to the woman before giving another huff. “Some people, I swear. Even my world is guilty of shutting down perfectly capable robots. It’s so…ugh. It’s just not fair!”

Star took his mug and happily took a sip of the fresh tea. He almost choked on it as he snorted in response to Ben’s tale though. “Wow, it sounds like things changed pace pretty fast, huh? It must have given you guys a good shock.” he commented. “Ahh, there’s never a dull moment around here, is there~?”

Ben and Anodi both gave Star finger guns. “Ayyyyyyyy.” Then looked at each other stunned before breaking into cackles.

“I don’t get it.” Damian spoke up.

Fintan’s voice yet again carried from the hall. “THEY’RE FILTHY PUN-LOVING HEATHENS!” A thud immediately followed him yelping in pain and Lance’s voice calling out that he’d get the other under control.

“Even though the project was a bust, I got to keep my boys. Well, two of ‘em.” The human woman grabbed both Navigators in a hug, chuckling.

Star let out a somewhat frustrated sigh at the information. “Of course they would do that.” he huffed. “I have to side with your creators on this one–that’s just wrong! Honestly I can’t see any good reason for ‘decommissioning’ perfectly good people like that.” Normally the robot master had no problem with humans, but sometimes they did something that just rubbed him the wrong way.

As he took a moment to get his irritation under control, Ben made himself known. Perking up, Star replied to the reploid. “They crashed your vacation? Oh and hello, it’s good to see you~” Deciding there was no point in just standing around, he joined Anodi and Damian on the couch. “Tea would be great, thank you!”

“I’m grateful to have an understanding ally like you, Mr. Star. And look at how well this clinic’s been doing! The Lifesaver series shouldn’t have been treated like that.” Anodi huffed as Ben brought in a tray.

He poured Star’s mug first and handed it off, sympathetically looking at his brother. “Oh it was a shock. We’re all in a nice hotel by the beach, just settled in to snooze - and suddenly alarms are going off, little ones are crying, I almost fried Fintan’s face off-”

“STILL MIFFED ABOUT THAT, BENNY!” Came a holler from the hall.

“Ahh, I see.” he replied as Anodi explained to him. “…Huh. That sounds like a pretty nasty virus. It kind of sounds like a virus that went around in my world for a time. It was called Roboenza, and it caused issues with an infected robot master’s systems, including basicly making them go crazy.” And it was a virus he hoped to never encounter.

“That makes sense.” he said, nodding to Fintan’s words. “How did they earn a nasty reputation though?” His attention then turned to Anodi. “And retirement? So no more of that series are being made then, right?”

Another face appeared, Lance’s rattail bobbing about with his steps as he passed by to get coffee like his brother. “The tech needed to maintain us became ‘mysteriously’ expensive the longer it went on that we hadn’t found a cure for the virus.”

“And any remaining units were to be ‘decommissioned’.” Anodi made a cutting motion with her hand across her throat.

Fintan rolled his eyes. “Don’t be so dramatic. It’s not like a witch-hunt got called, there was just an order put out to turn the Lifesaver units off, basically. Our creators, of course, thought that was bull so they saved me and Lance. We didn’t know Jo was holed up with Benny until a while later.”

“You mean when you crashed our vacation?” Ben asked dryly from behind Lance, the LSN unit jumping in place and giving the Navigator a glare that was ignored. “Coffee?” Ben offered the pot, filling Lance’s mug. “Hey Star. Wat some tea?”

Fintan sighed, stretching before following his own brother out as Anodi sat on the couch with Damian squished to her side.

“Sure I do!” he happily replied. “They’re both very nice and friendly, it’d be hard not to get along with them~”

Star listened to Joseph’s statement, and when he’d been about to ask how he was such a good client, Fintan had beaten him to the punch. Joseph’s answer then earned a snort of amusement from the robot master. “That’s a good point~” he said, waving as the reploid departed. He then perked up, remembering something. “Oh right, you didn’t say. So who are the Hunters?”

“Hunters is short for Maverick Hunters.” Anodi told Star. “The Maverick Virus was the reason the Hunters were formed by X. The virus will cause an infected unit to disregard the programming that tells them not to destroy or damage their surroundings, or hurt and/or kill human beings.”

Fintan groaned. “And because the combat units who became Hunters didn’t know how to keep themselves in one piece, we Lifesaver units were brought on as the medical group. Granted, we earned a pretty nasty reputation because of certain events that happened, but being a repair shop was basically what were there for.”

“Up until those stupid guys in charge ordered Retirement on the series.” Anodi fumed.
