Sims 2 Pet Breed Overhaul Parts 2 & 3: Small Breed Dogs & Cats
With your large dogs overhaul should we be deleting the existing dog breed files in the PetBreeds folder? Or adding the new ones as well?
No need to delete existing files. They function like any other custom breed so they can coexist with Maxis-made breeds :)
Large Dogs Overhaul UPDATED
I finally figured out how to sort custom breeds without using the incredibly buggy collection folders. Here's the download link if you want organized breeds without the hassle.

Sims 2 Pets Overhaul: Large Breed Dogs
Wave 1 is here! Have another peek of some more new and improved breeds!
The Airedale Terrier fur is more vibrant.
The Samoyed was given a more appropriate fur type.
One of the new Doberman colors (Fawn).
Norwegian Elkhound (formerly "Norsk Elk Shepherd").
So many new labs (and some subtly tweaked old coats)!
IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE DOWNLOADING
These custom breeds were made with the VANILLA GAME'S fur and eye colors in mind. If you are using default replacements, some breeds will look drastically different than intended and some colors may be strange or inaccurate.
This is a very large overhaul (158 breed files plus 1 collection file) so your game could lag when you open CAS.
I highly recommend deleting your Groups and Accessory cache files before extracting the overhaul.
DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS
Pet Breed Files: Extract directly into your PetBreeds folder.
Collection File: Put this in your Collections folder.
UPDATE 7/15/2026: Breeds will now be organized properly without the need for a collection folder.

You can safely pick and choose which breeds/variants you want in your game. Please let me know ASAP if something breaks or doesn't look right so I can work on fixing it.
Thanks and Happy Simming!
Sims 2 Pets Overhaul: Large Dog Progress
The large dog breed part of this project is basically finished. All that's really left to do is get them nicely organized (I'm fighting with the game rn to not wipe out my collections every time I relaunch the game).
I wanted to show you guys some of the most drastic changes I made (and a couple new coats!).
For some reason, Maxis gave the German shepherd and husky these weird chipmunk cheeks. Those are gone now.
The poodle got a new face. I couldn't figure out how to make a "natural" poodle cut that didn't look weird, so I instead decided to just tweak its body proportions a little and make its face less doll-like.
These three are the breeds that I believe changed the most.
The pit bull was made to look more like the actual purebred pit bull terrier instead of the American-bully-like body Maxis gave it.
The chow-lab mix now looks like an actual probable mix of the two breeds.
The Aussie looks much less like a weird cattle dog mix.
Hopefully I can get the game to cooperate and get this out to you all soon. I also have a medical procedure coming up very soon so if I can't get it to you guys before then, it likely won't be out until around the end of August. I really appreciate everyone's patience and kind words!
Sneak Peek: The Sims 2 Pets Breed Overhaul
This custom content pack will provide updated versions of every Maxis dog & cat breed in the sims 2, ranging from small tweaks to significant model changes and new coat colors (coats and breeds unlocked through gameplay are not included or required). This will diversify the gene pool for pets and provide the variety and genetics mixing that the community has desperately wanted for years. I plan to release this in 3 parts, starting with the large breed dogs. The goal is to have part 1 posted within the next couple months.
In the meantime, here's a sneak peek at the new Great Dane model and some genetics testing I did.
I gave the Dane model a much larger/wider head and slimmed the rest of its body a bit to make it look closer to real-life Great Dane proportions.
For genetics testing, I used the above fawn coat (a Maxis Dane coat I altered to give it more depth) and a completely custom "merlequin" coat variant. I used this mod by KittenInTheWindow to show all coat markings on the puppies.

They had a litter of 3, 2 of which had a nice mix of layers from both parents (and the other is just a merlequin with tan feet I guess haha).
These are the pups as adults:
I then tested to see how the merlequin coat would mix with Webster's (a premade Kerry Blue Terrier). At first the puppy seemed like he would be almost a copy of Webster, but turned out to have nicely mixed genes when he grew up.
I'm so excited to get this project finished and I hope I can make something the sims community will love! Feedback is always appreciated and encouraged!
Stick around for more updates. :)
