"That's how demons are. They're hungry. I can't blame them. If I had eternal hunger, I'd probably try damn near everything to make it go away too." He tapped a pen against a notebook on his desk.

She holds out a bag to Edan

Fairy dust, only a handful, enough to make a herd of elephants go to sleep, works on everything except gods and fae.

"Oh." He takes the bag, tilting his head at it. This could be very useful. "Thank you."

Edan slowly approached Natalie, holding an orb that floated just above his cupped hands.

"Hey- hey. The fae said to eat this."

"Doesn't fae food make it so you can't eat anything else?" she asked. "I started looking more stuff up about them while you were gone." She pointed her port towards him.

[the-lord-enchanter]

"Yeah- I mean, yes. You're right. But this doesn't look like food to me. I don't know." He was worried about trusting the fae, too, but he wasn't really sure what else to do.

"Something tells me I shouldn't just drop it."

"Did it say it was supposed to do something when I ate it?" She turned off her port and set it to the side as she stared at the strange thing. This time she didn't get physically attacked by an anon, but losing her name... It was confusing more than anything. Suddenly the thing she had been called by for her whole life was gone. She remembered being called Ileana, at least.

"It said that eating it should give you your name back. And I asked, saying it specifically, because you know how the fae are with their tricky words. You have to consume it in its entirety and it'll release your name so you can use it again."

A strange flickering or made of flight floats in front of Edan

It's the girl's name, make her eat it, it'll taste like her favorite food

Edan holds his hands under the orb, just in case. He doesn't know if he should trust the fae and make Natalie eat it.

"Her... consumption of the orb in it's entirety will release her name so she may be called by it again?"

"Uh, sorta. She said she was willing to meet you, at least. Her name is Marilene. You should talk to her."

Edan appeared at the cabin, looking around for that girl that Sophia said was older than the rest of the demigods one time. He had forgotten her name, only vaguely remembered what she looked like. But hopefully he'd find her.

Marilene was busy braiding Nadia's hair, humming a quiet tune to herself with a soft smile gracing her face. She looked up and waved at the familiar man, not at all questioning how he got there. "Good afternoon. Are you looking for Sophia? She's with the other hunters right now."

"No, I'm looking for you, actually." He glanced at Nadia. There was a child here. He'd better be mindful of his words. Better not make the same mistake he made with Emmeline, either. He looked back at Marilene.

"So, there's a fey that wants to know if you are interested in being its lover."

Nadia turned to look at Marilene and giggled, a conspiratorial smirk on her face. Marilene blinked and furrowed her brows. "I'm sorry? I didn't think I caught the attention of the fae. Have I met them before?"

Edan shrugged, seeming very confused as well.

"I don't know, man. I told my friend, "hey, that's a fae, don't give the fae your name." And then the fae was like "omg someone noticed I'm a fae" and now I'm tasked with finding it a lover, I guess. It said it wanted someone strong, pretty, kind, and willing. And a 'dame'. So. Yeah."

"I wouldn't want to put my sisters in danger. What if it tries to take their names as well?" She gently pet Nadia's hair. "I mean... I guess I can try to meet them? But I don't even know if I'm into romance. I never really thought about it that much."

"Yeah. I mean, fair. But I'll let it know you're willing to meet it, at least. It's a fae. I'd just be cautious, if I were you. They're very tricky with their words."

Finally, after so many years, Natalie wouldn't have to worry about her hallucinations anymore. The surgery took around half a day, as was expected, and she spent the majority of the time afterward asleep or near sleep. The following day, she stayed right where she was to recover and regain her energy. After that, her staying was more out of obligation than anything. She was bored and tired, but she needed more time before it was safe for her to go all the way back to the house. At last, she rode the elevator back home, wearing a thick neck brace to keep her from moving her neck more than she should.

Edan was standing about five feet back from a demon who stood at the edge of the kitchen counter. In front of the demon was a plate of raw beef. Edan was tapping his mouth with closed fingers, trying to get the demon to eat the raw meat instead. Then, the demon noticed Natalie, snapping its head to look at her.

"No! No. No. Hey! No. Eat. You said you were hungry." He snaps in the demon's line of sight and points at the plate. The demon pays no mind to Edan.

She slowly approached the two of them, her mind still clouded by the pain medicine from before. In her bag, muffled by her many other things, he may have heard the quiet rattle of a pill bottle. "Good... morning? Afternoon? Who's this?"

"No- Natalie. Natalie, stay." He gestured with his hand, trying to get her to stay away from the demon. He did not mean to treat her like a dog.

The demon immediately flew over and grabbed Natalie, pulling itself into her mind. Edan dropped his hands, seeming disappointed and sad. "You said you were hungry." He mumbled.

She tried to open her mouth and speak, to ask what this was all about, but it seemed her body wouldn't obey her mind. The creature was gone, but how? She was surprised he didn't immediately chide her for going back to the facility or ask her if she became a potato while she was gone. She tried again, thinking maybe she was just too out of it because of the medicine, but still, it didn't work.

The demon seemed fixated on Edan, watching him. Natalie's eyes would not leave him. Even as her legs began to change, tendons stretching until they snapped, muscles conforming to make a human faster.

So this is what Edan described to her. Her suspicions were correct, it did feel like being manipulated by a lunar. At least with a lunar it was possible to resist if with enough skill or if the lunar wasn't as strong as she was. The only difference was how it seemed to be manipulating her body in such a way and how it had disappeared. The pain was dulled by her medication, but it still felt unbearable. Of all times for a creature like this to attack her, why did it have to be after her surgery?

Edan sighed and summoned a strange green stick with a bulb in the center. Natalie may have heard the sound of a cork popping as she finally regained control of herself and was allowed to scream if she wished. Edan seemed a little more despondent now.

She stumbled when she was finally released with a gasp, reaching out to him for support as her knees buckled under her weight. She let out a cry in pain at the strong aches in her muscles and where the tendons were snapped.

Edan caught Natalie and lifted her up so there was no weight on her legs. He went and laid her down on the couch, setting the strange green stick on the coffee table. He didn't say a word as he immediately tapped her legs to take away the pain, leaving only a warm tingly sensation.

I've got no leverage over anyone else, so I'm stuck with you

He sighed. "Alright. I've got one more idea."

Edan appears, looking tired and a little upset.

"Hey, Emmeline. I've got a question for you."

She looked up from where she was sitting, several computer parts laying around and a pried open device of some kind in front of her. Tech of this era wasn't nearly as good as it was in her era, but maybe she could beef up this computer enough to be sub-par. "Yes?"

"Are you interested in a lover?" He shot out his hands, realizing a second too late how that sounded. "Not me. There's this fae asking for a dame, and the anons said I should ask you, and I said I'm pretty sure you're not considered a dame because you're not married, but they said ask you anyway. So here I am."

"No," she responded immediately. "I am not interested in becoming the partner of a creature I know nothing about." Perhaps she could use more connections to help her get around and reach her goals, but if an anon suggested it, it was most likely bad news.

[the-lord-enchanter]

"Yeah. Fair enough. It's- I mean, it's a fae. Mischievous things. Always tricking someone. Can't imagine how one would act toward a lover. Maybe they'd be nice, or maybe they'd enslave you and call it romance. Can never be sure with those things. Every one of them is different, too."

"Being a slave is not something I would want. Such a position is beneath me." She turned up her nose. "Even if I was interested in such frivolous things, it would not be with an unknown creature like this."

Edan wrinkled his nose, but decided to ignore the slave part. "Yeah, agreed. Having a girlfriend or boyfriend is kinda stupid. It's all the same stuff you would've done anyway."

She nodded. "Are there any other odd questions you were told to ask me, or are we done?"

"Yeah, we're done. Good luck on your project." He gestured vaguely to all the computer parts around her and disappeared.

Edan thought about this. Immediately, he wondered about Lucas' sister. But he was also pretty sure that Lucas' sister had a girlfriend now. Who else was pretty, kind, strong, and would be willing to give a fae a chance?

"Maybe you should try asking someone with more friends to set you up. I don't know anyone who'd meet your qualifications."

He could try that 20-year-old girl who's friends with Sophia, maybe. She was pretty. Sophia said she was kind, too.
