Where to find us & what happened while I was gone for a long time
I didn't have this blog for long when I left. It was only now, when I saw that communities have been added, including plenty of cat communities, I decided to actually start to post here for good.
First, if you want to get to know more about me and the cats, check out our info page:
But, a lot has happened since I was gone:
I rescued baby Freddy in late August of 2024. He was an abandoned kitten, starving, terrified and alone. He came in from the streets and found his way into the backyard of our apartment building. One of my other kitties, Little Sonic, noticed him and during the night at first, where I could not see a thing. But then he alerted me during the early evening, that's when I saw a tiny dirty kitten, who was looking weak. I went down with food and tried to coax him into coming with me, but there was no chance. He was obviously terrified of people. Every time he heard other people, he would run and hide. I could not get close either, but he tolerated me while I was putting food down and then distancing myself.
A neighbor told me that they saw the kitten running around in the street, hiding under cars. They apparently tried to rescue him, but couldn't catch him. That's when he ran into our backyard (the backyard of our apartment building).
I made him a little shelter with a kennel under my balcony (it's only about 2 feet up) and put a warm cat bed, blankies, food and water in there. He thankfully stayed there over night.
The next morning, I organized a cat trap. The little sweetie never came out during the day. He would hide somewhere and came out again in the early evening, that's when I put the cat trap out with food and treats. I stayed awake all night, hoping he would go into the trap. Which he did, but he was so tiny, he didn't set off the trap. He was too lightweight for the trap I had.
The next day I decided to sit near the trap and have a long string attached to the trigger. It took about two hours before Freddy dared to come closer, while still in the bushes. Finally, he came closer and then out of the bushes, and inspected the trap from the outside carefully. He was also talking to me and the other cats who were watching from the balcony. (I recorded a video of it, which you can find on YouTube: Freddy's rescue)
Thankfully, his hunger made him go into the cat trap. I waited a bit to let him get comfortable and relax a bit while he ate, so he would go all the way in and be more concentrated on the food and not run off a the tiniest sound. Then I pulled the string and the trap closed, thankfully with him in it.
Then I brought him into the home, but separated him from the others for quarantine reasons. He had mites and he needed to be checked out in general before he could be brought together with the others).
I prepared the balcony for him, with the kennel and made him a comfortable space. It was so warm at the time still, that it wasn't a problem to have him on the balcony, which he would have to himself for over two weeks. I spent lots of time with him and made sure he is comfortable. I brought him to the Vet right on the Monday after catching him, which happened on a Friday evening.
In the end, it turned out he was healthy, except for being underweight and having mites, which were treated quickly. He was so itchy when I caught him and it quickly stopped.
The others could not wait to meet him, and Freddy couldn't wait to meet the others for real. They were talking to each other and watching each other through the balcony door. Once it was clear he was healthy, I let the little sweetheart come in.
It worked out amazingly. All kitties accepted him without a problem. But he formed a special bond with Little Sonic, who was the one who would always call out to him when he was outside. I also think Little Sonic's calls and communication with Freddy, kept him close to us, even before I knew he was there. So Little Sonic is responsible for saving his new little brother.
Little Sonic and Freddy are together constantly. They play together for many hours. It's so sweet.
Freddy thrived and is still thriving. Now 6 1/2 months old as I'm writing this.
This picture is after he was living with us for a while already. Sometime in late September.
This picture is from the day he was introduced to the others. It was amazingly sweet. They were hanging out like Freddy had been part of the kitty group forever.
These two pictures below are also from the day of the introduction.
Freddy and Little Sonic on my lap at the same time, which happened quite often.
I post pretty much daily on our social media. If you come across this blog and would like to see more of the kitties, visit my linktree, which includes all our social media links, as well as a contact form.
