Kozmotis leans forward, a thin smile playing at his lips. “Would you care to find out with me?”

The shade took a half step back. “I.. You’re so, beautiful, Kozmotis.. So kind and so very bright… I’m not sure. What if this isn’t what you’d like it to be?”

Kozmotis runs his fingers through his hair as he leaned back, thinking. “Well…isn’t that for me to decide?” He asks, gazing at him evenly. “I think you’re handsome…and I feel joy when I talk to you.” He says lowly, taking a careful step forward.

A half chuckle escaped the shade. He looked away and towards the ground. “Are you really so foolish as to care for a monster, Kozmotis?”

Kozmotis can’t help but frown slightly at that. “If you wish to call me a fool for caring, then you may call me such. But I can’t help how I feel.” He says, reaching down to grab one of Pitch’s hands. “Would you rather me have feelings for someone who isn’t you? Because to be completely honest, I wouldn’t wish to be with anyone else.”

Pitch’s focus snapped towards their hands. To see Kozmotis’ fingers rest across his palm, his clawed fingertips so close to the other’s flesh. It worried him. He considered realeasing him, running away, but the Boogeyman was no coward. “Someone else? No. No, I.. I would kill them. To see another hold you in their arms and woo you, it would end me.” Pitch took a few steps forward to close the distance between them. “You’re a fool, but so am I. I want to be with you, Kozmotis. Always.”

Kozmotis reaches up with his free hand to tentatively touch Pitch’s cheek, before leaning in to softly kiss him. “Good. I like being a fool with you.” He smiles, sighing softly. “I wouldn’t want anyone else’s eyes on me but yours.” He was surprised at how adamant Pitch was, but he loved it, and he gets another kiss in before squeezing Pitch’s hand. “You don’t have to be so afraid, you know. I’ve had sharper things against my skin.” Being a general meant he was accustomed to all sorts of weaponry pressed against him, pointed at him….he wasn’t afraid of the Boogeyman’s claws.

A Hunter's Affair

A nervous chill crawled up Pitch’s spine as he settled in his seat. The movement eliciting a small squeak from the worn leather armchair. He took a shaky breath, trying to calm his nerves some before he set hands on his keyboard. The last time he had allowed his emotions to get the better of him, Pitch had accidentally fried his keyboard. He cursed himself and the new fangled board he bought. The old one was mush easier to navigate.

Another breath and he was ready. Pitch already had the chat window open, he simply needed to start the call. Turning on his webcam, as he didn’t believe it should be left on when not in use, he called her.

They hadn’t been chatting for very long, a few months, really. Still, it seemed that she, Christine, had managed to tug at Pitch’s lonely heart strings. The man was caught and he’d gladly stay that way for as long as she would want him.

Pitch looked around as the chat rang, checking to make sure any soiled vials or crushed plant material was pushed out of view of the camera. He didn’t want to look a mess for her. It’s not that he was, it had just been some time since he had tidied up. Potions often left quite a mess once completed.

The familiar trail of melodious beeps brought the witch’s attention back to the monitor. He smiled at the sight of a slightly pixelated beauty. “Christine,” he said, a bit breathlessly. “How are you?”

Chris had just settled down at her desk to do her homework when the chat window popped up. A huge smile and blush fell across her cheeks at the name that came with it. It felt weird to call Pitch her lover, but at the snake time she couldn’t think of anything better. They hadn’t been able to meet in person, and they had only known each other for a few moths, but it felt like forever to her.

Her heart fluttered just thinking about him. Though there were a few drawbacks. Chris knew about his…heritage and he knew about her own. They were supposed to be enemies however Chris couldn’t bring herself to hate the man behind the screen. She had grown up on the practice of ‘dealing with’ witches, demons, supernatural beings in any way they could get rid of them. Until Chris met him, that was how she thought as well, but the more she got to know him, the less those feelings arose, and other ones took their place.

Chris shook her head and started to tie her hair up. She had her reading glasses on, ones she only used when doing her homework because she claimed they hurt her eyes to much. She smiled and clicked the ‘ok’, his face popping up on the screen.

“Hey,” she answered in the same breathless tone.

“I’m great now that I’m talking to you.”

Oh, that smile. It was enough to get Pitch’s heart fluttering the second he saw it. The same could be said for her varied hairstyles, and especially the rare times Pitch saw her with her glasses on. He chuckled softly at the sight. “It’s always strange to see you with your glasses.. You look so different. So bookish,” he said, mind drifting. “It suits you, love..”

He sighed, half in contentment, half in irritation. He enjoyed seeing Christine. Loved it even more so than tending his herb garden, but at the same time, he longed to see her in person. To look past pixels and blurred imperfections. He wanted the real Christine. Her smile, her scent, her voice. Though she’d never agree to a meeting..

Chris blushed and looked away from the camera, almost tempted to take the glasses off. She hardly let anyone see her like this. She hated people knowing that she had a weakness, so that’s why she only wore them like this, when she was studying.

“You don’t exactly look to bad yourself,” she said with a wink. “When was the last time we talked like this? It feels like it’s been forever,” she told him, leaning her head on her hands.

Pitch could hardly help the blush that overcame him. He smiled, “Oh, come now.. You’re the real beauty here, love.” He took a moment to just enjoy Christine’s virtual presence before responding. “It’s been a few weeks, I believe. Though, forever is a very accurate guess.”

Chris couldn’t help but laugh with him. When they first met it would have been hard for her to even imagine them in a situation suck as this, yet now she could hardly live without him. “I believe that to be partly my fault,” she said. “I’ve been so busy these past few weeks with work and school that I’ve hardly any time to dedicate to other things,” she told him.

He shook his head, a warm smile on his face. “Darling, you needn’t apologize for your work. I can’t expect you to give me all of your attention. Especially since I haven’t exactly been free, myself. I suppose we’ve both just been preoccupied.” Pitch sighed, staring longingly at the woman in the monitor. “Christine?”

“Yes, I supposed you’re right,” Chris said soflty. She had missed him terribly but there were other things that needed her attention before she could talk to him. She took her glasses off and set them on the desk, rubbing her eyes before looking back at him. “Yes?”

"I.. I know we've had this conversation before, and I'm very well aware of the consequences, but... Do you think, perhaps, we could meet? We could go to a bookstore, or a cafe, a park. Sit down someplace and just, talk. Like this, but in person. To really see each other." Pitch released a shaky breath, suddenly very aware of his own heart rate.

The lord left his underling to starve, though for how long, he wasn’t very sure. Pitch supposed it would only last as long as her stubbornness would. Which given tonight’s events so far, would be quite a while. Poor girl might actually go mad.. or expire. Whichever came first. He chuckled at the thought, taking a lavish stroll throughout his home to pass the time. She couldn’t very well hold out forever…

By this time Chris had cramps in her stomach, wincing and crying out every time a new one hit her. She was on the floor, curled up into the fetal position, turned away from where the blood ran on the cold stone floor. Tears streamed down her face as she convulsed violently every few minutes, but she refused to give him the satisfaction of seeing her crawl on her knees, begging and pleading to him for a next meal.

As the hours ticked by, the lord began to grow bored. There were only so many screams he could hear before they all seemed to meld together. Ugh, how long was she going to draw this out? Pitch couldn’t wait much longer. She was mad. Growling, the lord faded into the shadows of his fortress and appeared in the corner of his basement. “How much longer are you going to lay there feeling sorry for yourself? Have you no will to live? You’re pathetic!”

Her throat had gone raw but his time, hardly being able to get out a whimper by the time he had appeared next to her. “Shut up!” She found herself telling him. “I didn’t ask you for this! I didn’t ask you to try and ‘help’ me,” Chris told him, a growl accompanied her words. “If you think I’m so pathetic then just leave me to die. Why should you waste your time?”

“Do you think yourself so special that I’d waste my valuable time on a ravenous fledging? Ha!” The lord grabbed the underling by the collar of her tunic and pulled up. “I took you in to protect myself. My legacy. I won’t stand idly by while you suck my people dry and draw attention to my land. You will learn to behave yourself and swear yourself to my service, or I will end you.”

Chris gasped when he grabbed her, not expecting such a force from him. “Then end me!” She shouted. “I didn’t want this! You may have been alive to long to remember what being new felt like, but this is never what I would have wanted.”

"Oh, you'd like that, wouldn't you? For all this to be over? And just what is it that you wanted, hmm? For the townspeople to bow down to your newfound power? For you to become a slave to your thirst? Oh, yes, that must be it. This is all just a bloody game to you, isn't it? Well, fine!" Shoving her away, Pitch reached into his robes and pulled another skin of blood from it's shadowy depths. He tossed it towards her. "We'll see how far your thirst gets you."

She then got up and walked into the kitchen to find the safety scissors so she could make snowflakes and other things to put on the small Christmas tree that was in the den. The child then bumped into her brother who was drinking eggnog with whiskys. She then whimpered as he growled. “Go away you halfling!” He hissed as Macy gulped and ran back into the living room and bumped into her father before hugging her teddy bear tightly as she whimpered.

The shade hadn’t wanted to celebrate this day, but he had little choice in the matter. How could he deny his daughter, who wanted this so much? It confused him then, to see her run into him clutching her bear so tightly. “What’s wrong, darling? What’s happened?”

Macy was whimpering as she held her teddy and shyly pointed in the kitchen where Jackson was sitting and drinking. He was just starting to get tipsy. The child sighed sadly that he was still drinking on this holiday. She then sat down and kept drawing. She gave a small sigh as she finished her letter to Santa and then smiled as she got up and then looked at her brother nervously.

A grimace painted Pitch's face at the revelation. "Never you mind your brother, dear. He isn't worth your time." He patted the girl's head before entering the kitchen. Snatching away the bottle of whiskey, the shade took a drink. "A bit early for you to start, isn't it?"
