As everyone’s attention was in the center of the room on whatever they were unveiling, Claire was on the hunt for another glass of champagne. She heard the crowd murmur as she finally found a waiter holding a full tray of sparkling glasses. Claire set down her empty one, and took another between her fingers. At the back of the crowd she turned to see what all the fuss was about when she noticed a man stagger backwards not far from her. He stepped into a hallway. Clearly, something was wrong. Forgetting how much her feet were starting to hurt and the alcohol in her hand as she discarded it on an empty table, Claire followed. “Hey,” she said turning into the hallway. “Are you okay?” Her eyes gazed over his face. “Clark right? The reporter…”
He’d just hung up his phone when he heard a voice behind him that made him jump. “Yeeesh!” He yelped as he simultaneously clapped his hand back over his eyes. “Oh sorry,” he apologized as he finally allowed himself to turn around, heart hammering away in his chest at his stupid moment of carelessness. “I just - did you kind of get blinded by the lights coming from that thing too? Cause I am just so…” Through his fingers, he could make out the concerned face of the Harlem nurse he’d run into at the doors, Claire. Uh oh, what excuse who not make her feel the need to examine hi right now. “…light sensitive right now. I’m sure it’s nothing though. Please, go back to party,” he waved off.
Claire has seen her fair share of weird behavior. Especially from people that were at this event tonight. So his refusal to look at her and instance to go back to the party was nothing new to her. But this is after all, why she was here. “Blinding? Not really. Though, I could really care less what that thing is.” Some strange artifact that was probably going to mean trouble for everyone here. Which also meant it was going to ruin her day. What else is new. “Are you sure you’re okay? I mean, you know I’m used to dealing with weird shit right?”
