appeal of rafebarry: no holds barred toxicity and drama. you can do whatever the fuck you want with them. the actors were so into it

what’s funny is i never really wrote good jjpope fics but the criminal investigator / accused AU in my mind was really good

i’m not sure if those are the right terms to use actually. but basically jj’s dad was killed and jj was the main suspect for a variety of reasons. pope was like… a detective intern. if that is even a thing. it was really good.

#i wish i remembered more about it or still had the draft but i deleted all of my drafts at some point #it was REALLY GOOD and you’ll just have to TRUST ME

So I'm watching season 4 literally as fast as I can because I need Groff to get his ass kicked and I'm trying to figure out what it is that's sticking out to me and I'm sure it's lots of things but I realized something.

It's not funny.

And I don't even mean that it's boring or anything. I just mean that the tone is heavy. Maybe it's because I know about the JJ spoiler and I'm just waiting but I think I can count on one hand the amount of times I laughed or even cracked a smile on one hand and have plenty of fingers left to spare. And it's not even a bad thing, I think, because it's natural for shows as they progress to up the stakes but still.

Wow. Just wow. I know I've described the show like that to you before but I genuinely don't know how else to describe it. 😆 I don't even know if I mean it in a positive or negative way.

.... who the hell is groff😭 is he just in s3/4 or did i totally forget about something. that aside though i think i get what you're saying... i had this a little for sure with the little start of s3 i saw and maybe even a LITTLE bit in s2?? like there were still a lot of funny more lighthearted moments but i feel like they never quite managed to make it work the way it did in the first season

#took me a second to get back to this but from my literal zero context i'm going to agree with you on this one #it's kind of a difficult thing to reconcile because it's not like s1 didn't have its fair share of emotionally heavier moments like #it really really did but it was still so enjoyable and fun and ridiculous at times #and i can def see how the show would kind of fall into this trap of losing that bc it's admittedly probably quite difficult to recreate #like idk i feel like i'm talking in circles here but it's so strange #like yes the tone gets heavier but also. there was already serious stuff happening in s1? and it just worked?#i feel like a lot of shows struggle with capturing what made them work in the first place tbf #anyways if you watched any more i'd love to hear your thoughts xx #also someone tell me who groff is #ask

just watched the death scene and i have two observations

1) why did they film it SO AWKWARDLY. why is kiara following covid restrictions. five feet away from him. am i the only one who thinks it looks silly

2) i couldn’t hear what they were saying for a moment and when jj said “i never told you [???]” the first thing that popped into my mind was “i never told you what the j’s stand for”

3) it really pisses me off that only kiara was there. i understand it from the obvious ship perspective but even then did everyone forget this started as THE friendship show?

#IT WAS A SHOW ABOUT FRIENDSHIP BTW. the friendship group was at the absolute core of it #literally obx peaked in s1 when they were all running around together being silly #with minimal relationship drama except for john b and sarah which was okay they were the token relationship drama #but you’re telling me you’re killing off one of the main characters and you’re not having his friends be there. in the friendship show?#you’re just going to have the forced fan favourite ship there? okay. no cool. just making sure
