Regina forced a tiny smile and did as she was told not wanting to lose her head because that would really set her back. She quite enjoyed having a head and being alive. The brunette couldn’t help feeling a little awkward taking his hand and allowing him to help her into the car. If any of his employees were watching they would think the boss picked up a prostitute…she certainly looked like one.
Once she was buckled up safely and felt a little less awkward, the brunette extended her arms letting her palms hover in front of one of the heating vents to warm up. He had heated seats! Of course he had heated seats, he could certainly afford them. "How does it work?" the brunette asked. Sure, she could likely figure it out on her own, but god forbid she should screw something up. The young woman really could not afford to pay to have his car fixed if she broke it, so not touching anything was really her safest bet. "I already told you I didn’t want your charity because of the mix up with my resume," the brunette replied shrugging a little as they arrived at her building and she got out quickly. "Thanks for the ride and good luck with…whatever," she said before closing the car door. Digging through her purse she grabbed her keys out and headed for the building. She smiled a little as she past one of her neighbours, Ruby, on the stairs on her way up. She was totally going to be in shit tomorrow morning when she got back from her boyfriend’s place, Regina thought as she climbed the rest of the way to her floor.
Graham smiled back, trying to make this a little less awkward. In his head, he had imagined this going a lot better than it was. He was just trying to be a gentleman like his mother taught him but it didn’t seem to be working. Sighing, he carefully shut the door once Regina was in the car. It took him another few seconds to get in and start the car along with the heat. Canada was cold in the winter.
“Hmm? Oh there’s a button in the middle on the left hand side that turns it on. The buttons on the side of it turn it up or down.” He said causally, not even thinking about how he could afford the seats. Graham drove them carefully to Regina’s place and frowned. “ No wait Ms. Mills it’s not pity...” The door was shut before he could say more. He sighed and got out, locking his car as he went after her.
Thankfully he was able to catch up with her. “ Ms. Mills, please wait.” Graham called out. “ It’s not a mix up over your resume but the fact that you are the only one I think who would be able to do this job. All I ask is a few moments of your time to listen to my proposal. Please?” He asked as he finally caught up to her, waiting for her answer. This was his last chance to make a family and he needed Regina to listen to him.

He tugged the jacket a bit closer around himself as the show ended. Graham always enjoyed seeing the orchestra and tonight, they had performed one of his favorite operas. The business man wasn’t a fan of the lead actress but the rest of the cast had performed well. Overall, the show had been one that he enjoyed. He moved to the lobby.
It was winter and he had checked his coat, not wanting find a place for it in his seat. As he passed through the lobby, he greeted several business partners and their spouses before excusing himself. It was getting late and he needed to take care of his Irish Wolfhound, Grayson. “Graham Humbert.” He told the clerk and turned to look around the room as he waited.
That’s when he saw her. Brunette hair that was curled and falling over her shoulders. A purple dress that fell to the floor covering whatever heels that she might be wearing. He could also see that her lipstick was a bright red and that she was laughing at some joke. Graham had to know who she was. Walking over towards her, he smiled and joined the small circle she was talking to.
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t help but notice just how beautiful you looked across the room. I had to come over to make sure my eyes weren’t playing a trick on me.” The business man held out his hand towards her with a smile, “ Graham Humbert, and you are?” Graham asked with a charming smile.

Regina shrugged a little, but knew that he was right. The hand warmer was only keeping her palms warm, and she’d heard that most body heat escaped through one’s head and feet. In reality, she was loosing heat faster than she was gaining any back. The warmer would do more good in one of her boots or on top of her head…that would look awkward though. Seeing his glance at her workplace her head fell ever so slightly her gaze focused on her palms feeling ashamed of her predicament.
She was better than a coffee shop, better than dressing in little more than a prostitute for tips, better than her current living location. All she could do for now was keep fighting and working day and night to make it right…to make a better life for herself, and her future family. Biting her lower lip lightly the brunette moved to follow the businessman across the street. She was a little more careful than him though knowing that cars wouldn’t make any extra attempt to stop for someone who looked like her.
The car was even nicer close up she decided as she slid into the passenger seat. It was nice on the inside too. This level of clean you only found in cars fresh from the lot, assuming the lot wasn’t a second hand lot because vehicles from those ones sometimes came with odd smells and stains…if Jim’s “new” car was any indication. Biting her lip the brunette turned towards the window to hide her embarrassment as she told Mr. Humbert her address.
He wasn't sure what to say at her shrug. Or her place of employment or even her state of dress. It was clear to him that Regina was a very bright and beautiful woman. So why was she forced to work her? His secretary's remark came to mind. Unless someone had experience or knew someone, their resume went into the trash or shredder. Or if the HR person was feeling kind would let a resume through.
Graham just waited for Regina to walk over to the car. " Here, watch your head." He said softly, taking her hand to help her into the car. Once the brunette was inside, the CEO gently shut the door. Rushing back over to his side, he turned on the car's heat, hoping to warm up Regina. " There's a seat heater on your arm rest. That'll help warm you up."
There was a small twitch of his lips as he heard the address before driving there. It was a rougher part of town and someone like Regina didn't belong there. Graham flexed his hands on the wheel before speaking softly. " I was hoping to catch you at your home. As I have a job offer for you and wish to discuss it in private. It is nothing illegal I assure you but it felt more appropriate to discuss in private."

One More Try To A Lullaby
Regina wondered for a moment if she should reassure Graham that the fainting spells were nothing to worry over, but luckily he didn’t seem too worried by mention of them. "Well a balanced, nutritious diet is key, but I had that even before becoming pregnant so it’s nothing to worry about. I’m also on a folic acid supplement to help decrease the risk of foetal neural tube defects," she offered with a small smile.
She wasn’t actually sure how long she would be on the supplement, but she figured it was something Graham would want to know so he could have every reassurance that his child was being properly cared for. "I’m also not drinking alcohol or coffee anymore," she offered softly. She wasn’t sure which had been harder to quit really. She liked coffee in the morning and throughout the work day, but a nice glass of wine with dinner or wine or her hard cider while she read before bed or had a bubble bath. "Whale’s also got me taking a few other supplements as well; one for vitamin D, vitamin B12, and DHA omega-3. We’re making sure she’s healthy and developing properly,” Regina offered with a small smile adopting his gender term for their unborn child.
She smiled a little more allowing him to hug her, and not making any immediate move to pull away. "It’s incredibly sad that during our time together I have never made you dinner," she offered knowing that if she had he wouldn’t feel the need to mention not being allowed heavy salt since her kitchen was essentially nothing but healthy food. "Granted, if I had, you might not be here…my cooking during the early years in Storybrooke could have literally killed someone," she joked, but it wasn’t a far stretch of the truth. A lot of practising had gotten her this good. Smiling she stepped away from the Sheriff’s embrace and moved to put on her coat before picking up her purse and briefcase as well as the office keys, and Graham’s folder off of her desk. "After you dear," she motioned towards the door knowing she’d need to lock up after them.
Graham just nodded as he took in the information. He remembered when living with his wolf family how the pack would let the pregnant alpha female get the most meat. Perhaps he should make sure that Regina has enough meat at home. There were plenty of deer he could hunt in the forest.
He was pulled out of that line of thought as Regina continued to speak. " Oh, and those will help her?" Graham smiled softly as the mayor used the gender term he picked for their daughter. He hugged her close, not wanting to let her or their unborn child out of his site. The urge to protect his family, his pack, was running through his weakened body. Graham would do whatever it took to make them safe. Even if it meant a deal with Rumplestilskin.
Nodding, he moved out of the office. His foot tapped as Graham waited for her, his mind thinking over everything. They would need to shop for a crib. And for other things... It was going to be an interesting few months, that much was for sure.

Regina nodded lightly in a reassuring manner. “Yes, she was in the tomb…but don’t try to worry about that now dear, you can deal with Ms. Swan as soon as you’re well again,” she offered with a comforting smile, her hand brushing gently up his arm. Hopefully, Graham would remember only the story she had just fed him and the truth would be lost. "Only when I forget and bite my lip, which I do quite often," she admitted with a tiny smile. The Sheriff was very much aware of the Mayor’s lip biting quirk, he’d even called it sexy once, but maybe that had just been to get between her sheets.
Laughing lightly she rolled her eyes. She really was never going to live down the one and only time she had managed to get sick. Once she’d learned about the germs and such in this land and how to deal with them, she’d not been sick again. "My secretary likely would have been happier if I had been dead," Regina pointed out with a smirk. She hadn’t been very pleasant when she’d been woken up since she was feeling to sick not to be bitchy, and of course she didn’t like to be seen in a vulnerable position. Of course, since Graham had taken her home, the secretary had also gotten saddled with extra work as the Sheriff had lead the Mayor out.
"Of course," she nodded having likely known he wouldn’t be released today, but her invitation had been open for whenever he was allowed to leave. "You’re going to be fine darling," she encouraged softly. "Maybe even better than ever with me take care of you." Smiling softly she nodded a little at his offer knowing that Henry would be happy to have a sleepover if she could arrange one. “I would be glad to stay dear, I just need to pop out for a moment to make arrangements for Henry. I’ll be right back,” Regina offered before slipping outside to make a few calls. Once everything was arranged she made her way back to the room slipping off her shoes, coat, and suit jacket before moving carefully into the space Graham had made for her.
Graham frowned at the words. There was something tugging at the back of his head trying to warn him about something. Frowning, he pushed it away to focus on Regina. His hand moved to cover hers wanting to keep her in place. " You should be care about that. " He placed his free hand on her cheek, gently stroking it with her thumb.
He joined her in laughing before smirking. "I think she would be happy if everyone died. She doesn't like people very much. " Graham smiled. It was strange to see Regina be anything but composed, but he was more worried on getting her home.
"I'd rather be home. " There was something about the hospital that gave him the creeps. " I'm sure I'll be doing better with you than with Dr. Whale. " He smiled as she left feeling his eyes drift shut for a few minutes. Graham woke up a little when he felt Regina get into the small hospital bed. " Hey." The sheriff mumbled with a lazy smile.

Oh god, just what I needed. Glancing up she confirmed that the voice she’d thought belonged to Mr. Humbert did indeed belong to him. What? Was he coming over to bitch at her about her disapproval of his desires. He’d had the rest of the day to get over that, and in all honesty, she hadn’t thought it would even linger in his mind for a moment after she left.
Hoping to find her? Yeah right, he’d just gotten lucky that she’d ended up coming in to work tonight, and that she finished up and was waiting for the bus around the time he quit work…which was quite late really. Regina had always thought, as she was sure many others did as well, that business people got off at decent hours in comparison to minimum wage workers such as herself.
"I’ll pass. I’ve got heat covered," the brunette replied reaching into her purse to find her reusable hand warmer. Activating the device she held it between her palms starting to feel a little bit warmer right away. This could possibly be the best investment she’d ever made…not that it was much of an investment, you could get even the reusable variety really cheap if you knew where to look. Unfortunately, her legs were still cold, as was almost every other part of her except her palms.
"Fine…but only because I have to work in the morning and the sooner I get home the sooner I get to sleep," she replied a moment later after having reconsidered. Maybe she was a little curious too about why he wanted to talk to her. As far as she was concerned, they’d said everything they needed to earlier in the day.
He could see that she wasn't happy with her. The CEO suffered awkwardly trying to figure out what to say or do. It wasn't like he was angry with the woman. Indeed, the man was intrigued by the fire that Regina had shown. Graham took a deep breath trying to figure out what he was going to say.
" That's not going to do very much, Ms. Mills." His voice was soft. It was confusing to him as to why someone was wearing something so short in this weather. Canada was known for its cold weather. Looking over at the coffee shop, he took a few minutes to speak again.
He nodded. " Alright, please, my car is just across the road. " It took him a few moments to walk over to the passenger side. He opened the door for her and smiled softly at her. His father had always taught him to be a gentleman and it stuck to this day.
Once Regina was inside he walked over to the driver's side sliding in. He started the car and turned to look at the brunette. " So where am I taking you?"

Regina went home to shower and change before heading into work. She’d gotten a call that they needed someone to cover until closing and it looked like she needed the money. Besides, working with Kathryn was relatively fun. The blonde was one of the two people she actually enjoyed working with, most days she worked with Sidney she wanted to knee him in the groin. Once ready, she got the next available bus to where she needed to be and clocked in right away trying to help Kathryn with the sudden Rush.
Zelena nodded lightly again. “Yes, she challenged your bid for a holding a while back. Gave you a run for your money, but I believe you said, and I quote, ‘My natural charms beat the witch,’” she offered hopping she had in fact gotten the quote right, it had been a while though. "She has a job just not in Public Relations. Her mother could be actively sabotaging her chances, but it’s more likely that her resume goes straight to the shredder for her lack of experience…it’s what our Human Resources Office does," she answered shrugging. If you didn’t have experience you didn’t get jobs and without jobs you couldn’t experience…it was a vicious cycle unless you caught a magical break somehow. "I do, but so do you," grabs a highlighter and circles the pertinent information from the application on his desk leaving the highlighter on top of the application as she heads back to her desk.
Regina sighed deeply as she and Kathryn finally got their till counted and the coffee house tables equipment and dishes all set for the morning crew, which would be Regina and Mal. Sighing the brunette locked up dropping the keys into her purse. Kathryn was lucky, Jim was waiting to pick her up. Regina waved good bye before pulling her light coat tighter around her small frame, in an attempt to ward off the intense cold of the wind that night. Ugh, why did boots, stockings, and a slightly short skirt have to earn her better tips? Men were swine, that’s why. Jeans just didn’t cut it for tips, but at least she’d be warmer.
As she stood at the bus stop waiting for the bus to arrive she couldn’t help noticing a car pull up in front of the building where she’d had her interview earlier that day. The driver got out and waited by the car with the keys in hand. A valet…probably for the boss or some other high roller. It was a nice enough car she thought giving it a short glance before turning away and shivering lightly moving almost like dancing on the spot to keep the blood flowing. The bus could come any time now, really, any time.
Graham frowned and nodded. " I remember her now, she was a real piece of work. But you're probably right, its more of the lack of experience, just check to make sure that her mother isn't sabotaging her." Grabbing his jacket, he pulled it on before pulling out his keys from his coat pocket. " Hold my calls and meetings for the rest of the day." Heading to where his car was, Graham waited for the valet to pull up with it.
Taking the keys, he looked across the street to see Regina. Walking over he called out. " Ms. Mills. I was hoping to find you." His voice became softer as he came over. Graham frowned at the hoping back and forth. The winter winds were cold and it was foolish, in his mind, to be wearing such short clothes.
" I was hoping to talk to you actually. Perhaps we can talk as I give you a ride home? So that way you aren't stuck waiting out here, after all my car has a heater." Graham said softly trying to not startle the woman. Or make it seem like he was some serial killer.
One More Try To A Lullaby
"Positive," she chuckled softly. “If I had any doubt of the pregnancy tests’ accuracy, the morning sickness and fainting spells confirmed it,” Regina smiled. Not that she would ever have doubted the blood tests Doctor Whale had done. She had however, doubted the home tests she had taken, but the results of Whale’s tests confirmed it. It was odd to think about really…a tiny person growing inside of her. Apparently, she wasn’t completely rotten to the core like everyone thought.
Regina blushed ever so slightly before nodding lightly. "The website I’m tracking development on said so," she offered with a small smile. The internet may not be the best place to get information from, but it wasn’t like the Mayor could pop into the local bookstore and pick up a copy of What to Expect when You’re Expecting. Well, technically she could, but she didn’t want to start the rumour mill swirling until she was ready for people to know.
"A son would be better…I would just ruin everything with a girl," she admitted a little sad that she’d been deprived of that relationship and as such didn’t know how to provide it. She bit her lip lightly. "Well…right now, you’re going to offer me a ride home so I don’t have to walk," she suggested with a smile knowing he would do so of course. "Then maybe we can discuss how to handle things over dinner?" She was hungry…and Henry had a sleepover so she didn’t really want to be alone. Not that with another human being inside of her she could technically be alone, but still.
Graham smiled as they joked with each other. He continued to rest his hand on the spot of her stomach. Under his hand, their child was growing stronger with each passing second. It was so strange to think that in several months they would have a child. A testament to the fact they had lain together. He couldn't help but smile at the idea of holding their child.
" Really? That's so...wow..." His smile grew as he looked at her. " Do we...is there anything we have to do to help it grow?" The hunter knew nothing about children or raising them. Did Regina need special food or some sort of ritual to help the babe?
His smile turned to a frown as she said how she would ruin it. Carefully, Graham pulled her into the hug, hoping to comfort her. " I can do that. And dinner sounds good. Doctor Whale says I should avoid anything with heavy salt though. " Graham stated softly not wanting to eat something that might send him to the hospital again.

"I meant it’s fine for me," she snapped back since she hadn’t really liked his tone. “Leave me with a bit of my dignity, and sooth your conscience in some other manner, I don’t need or want your charity.” God was she glad when she was out of there and couldn’t say anything else to screw up her chances of ever getting a job in this city, let alone the province.
She didn’t cry until she was seated at the back of city bus that had just splashed muddy water all over her dress. How could she have been so stupid as to think that a company like that would ever give someone like her a call back. He was the elite and she was just…the Barista who unbeknownst to him made his morning coffee. If she was anyone else, she would probably resolve herself to spit in his coffee the next morning, but she wasn’t that kind of person.
Zelena glanced up a little surprised to see the interview end so soon because she’d expected it would go a lot longer and better even if Regina wasn’t a surrogate. It might have worried her a little that the brunette would put the pieces together having recognized her, but luckily, she did not. Next person she called…yeah he was nuts if he thought the agencies were sending anyone else with the amount he’d already sent back for one reason or another.
Already knowing a little about Regina, it didn’t take long to learn more and she entered her boss’ office about an hour later. “All right, so…Ms. Mills is as you already know in Public Relations, but has yet to find a position in that field. Top marks all through school, and earned a number of scholarship, bursaries, and grants to pay for the University she went to,” Zelena paused to take a small breath and flip the page. "Her mother Cora Mills is hell in heels from what I’ve found, but she lost joint-custody of Regina after an incident landed her in the hospital, it was all over the papers where they lived because charges were laid. Her father has a small business in Ontario, and got a horse ranch as well in the divorce settlement."
Again the secretary paused to flip the page and take a breather letting everything sink in. "She has student loans to pay back, and I assume is refusing to let her father help since she’s living in one of the cheapest parts of town, and doesn’t own a car despite having a licence. Health records I can’t access, but she looks very healthy obviously. Oh, and I saved the best for last. Those Caffè Americanos you like so much…she makes yours for you every morning," she handed him a sticky note with the address of the coffee shop where Regina worked, not far from the office. "The agencies aren’t sending anyone else, so I took a chance figuring she’d be what you’re looking for. Smart, usually sweet, kind, and great with kids, but not afraid to speak her mind."
Graham was very confused as she stormed out of his office. All he was trying to do was fix a mistake that his HR department had created. The CEO frowned. What had he said that was so wrong? It wasn't charity but his own personal code of honor. Sighing, he went back to work as he waited for his secretary's report.
His hands were clasped in front of him as he listened. " Cora Mills....why does that name sound familiar? If she had top marks, why hasn't she landed a job yet? She sounds like a perfect candidate for any of the businesses in the area." His eye brow raised at the next page of information. Graham held out his hand, knowing that Zelena made a good case for Regina as his surrogate.
" I'm assuming you also have her contact information as well?" He asked staring at the sticky note. Perhaps this time, the HR department hadn't screwed up entirely.
