I love the names in Skulduggery Pleasant so much, especially the villains. They have such ludicrously villainous names, my favorite example being Murder Rose....

They CHOSE that!

Regarding the art contest question, I am confused why he didn't mention there had been art contests before. One Christmas art contest, the 13DaysOfSkulduggery thing was a promotion for SoW and the latest was using audio clips from the Hauinted House audio drama and doing something with that to win an SP figure. Like, why is he acting like they've never done that before for SP?

God these tattoos were so annoying. I honestly can't decide which is harder: Drawing a fully tattooed Miss Sorrows, or Finbar. At least I get a lot of practice with China...

I didn't forget about the communal tattoo list, and he does have a lot of them, but they're just out of frame :[

Tattoo List: Peace and Anarchy symbols on each shoulder, a Snake/Dragon/Wyvern curling around his neck, steampunk gears on his wrist, flowers n iny curling around his arm, barbed wire curling around one collarbone and leaves curling around the other, the pommel of the dagger stabbed through his 'Sharon' heart, stick n pokes on his hand/fingers, and the very tippy top of a clock or compass or smth on his bicep. Ah, and also the wolf on his throat and the eyes that move and blink. Not canonical but c'mon Derek made a sorcerer tattoo artist and didn't make moving tattoos? lameee

1 of 21 TFO Cards! So far I've struggled the most with this Deck xD

This will be his only Card (But you'll see his corpse in a separate Card :D )

Why does he appear in the TFO Deck but not the PWF Deck? Great question! Because he doesn't actually appear in the books until TFO. I'm drawing these cards in order of mention/appearance. Cameron Light woulddd kick off the deck, but he spends the entire book being dead, not unlike a certain warlord, and thus will not receive a Card until we meet their alternate selves.

One Card half wrapped in shadow won the poll, and tbh I really like how this one turned out

Batu spends half the book being an anonymous evil employer and part of the other half being Patty Hanratty, clueless mortal (who Landy actually took the time to describe!!) So hopefully this Card conveys that he is in fact, an evil mortal

I'm so proud of those solid shadows. Are they anatomically correct? Ehhhh, but at least you can tell where the light is coming from. Cough.

He kinda looks like Bilbo Baggins but we're going to ignore that...

The ring- instead of being inscribed with evil voodoo- is instead carved with binding sigils (on the inside, which is why Val didn't clock it! Although why she didn't immediately notice her magic dampening is beyond me. Too much going on at the time I guess, and to be fair she's still pretty new at... well, everything really)

This is interesting, apparent small lore dumps come with the episodes of the new audio drama, this time about the War.

"The 300-Year War started in 1615 and ended in 1931. While it raged, it was known as the Mevolent War, the War With Mevolent, or the Great Magical War. In 1933, once the Truce had become a lasting peace, it was officially renamed the 300-Year War, despite it actually lasting for 316 years. It was noted at the time that the 316-Year War was something of an unwieldy name, but a consensus could not be reached on a non-numerical alternative."

First of all, I was informed by WillBoss27 (Reddit) that Caisson, Skulduggery, the Unnamed, Abyssinia’s timelines ALL confirm that Mevolent died in 1929 and “a few months later, the war ended” so the best the war could have ended in 1930 IF Mevolent was killed late 1929, but it literally, canonically, cannot be 1931.

Personally, I noticed that this doesn't mention how the Faceless Followers called the war. Probably just the "Sanctuary War" or "The Great War" (since they wouldn't care to add magical as mortals and their wars don't matter to them). But I'd personally like something more religiously tinged like "The Holy War", "War of Faith", "The Heretic War", "Campaign of Enlightenment" or some name in one of the magic languages/something Gaelic sounding given that's how Mevolent called his cities. And no, "The Dark Crusade" wouldn't work because that is an exclusively Christian term, just like Dharma-yuddha is exclusively Hindu.

The time after the war was probably called something like "The Great Purge", "The Heretic Purge" or "The Great Cleansing" in the Leibniz Dimension, depending on what they called the war, given the killing spree Mevolent went on. Nefarian probably had a blast in that time period, sadistic lil bastard.

Also, it took 2 years after the war (3-4 after Mevolent's death) for the Truce to happen. That's probably not a lot of time in mage years, but it surely feels like a lot if these years were spent getting hunted down by the winners of the war 💀
