Abhorson was glad to have the mask on, otherwise angels would think they were going soft. Though they paused when Nyx spoke.
Star⊠likes the stories they always tell??
Their stories were already rudimentary, spoken stilted, and spoken few and far between. Theyâve tried to make stories for their apprentice, but that was rare. So they stuck to what generational stories their family passed down.
Which isnât a whole lot.
The executioner shook off the growing thoughts, focusing as Nyx began to read the book and talk about Nudibranchs. It mostly seemed to overshadow the storm that was raging outside.
Abhorson still flinched silently at every rumble of thunder and every flash of lightning. They couldnât help it really, after all, it reminded them of the all too familiar feeling of their father.
When Nyx was done, the executioner smiled lightly beneath their mask and gave a soft applause.
âThat was wonderful Nyx, thank-â
The sound of someone approaching made their words of praise fall flat, seeing the librarian appear to give the news that it wasnât safe to go outside right now.
Though that raised the question, how WOULD the council react. With annoyance, mostly. The group was one who the most insignificant thing would set them off. Even if it was out of control. They absentmindedly remembered when they were late to a meeting the first time, they were berated. And beaten.
And they never were late again. That is how they solved their problems, through threats and violence.
However, the council was going to be annoyed. The best case scenario is that they get berated, the worst case scenario is.. punishment. Either way, the angel knew that the other was taking this harder than they were.
The executioner sighed lightly, the feeling of Nyx shifting pulling them out of their thoughts. Oh right, they had to tell a story.
Silently they hoped that it raised their apprenticeâs spirits.
âAh yes, hm.. letâs see.â
Abhorson began, humming as they thought quickly of a concept.
âWell⊠Once upon a time, there was a bustling kingdom full of creatures of many shapes and sizes. It lived up in the clouds, far from the ground and saw many wonderful things. From the rainbows that danced across the skies, to the quiet lulls in the summer day.â
Abhorson faltered, before they cleared their throat and continued.
â..Among the people, was the knight in red. They were a fearsome warrior, feared by all and was the right-hand of the Council. Right next to the King and Queen of this glorious paradise. One night, when the knight in red went outside, they looked up at the sky. A beautiful night sky shined back, the array of stars that speckled it making them smile if but a little⊠but while they looked they heard a small zoom.â
The executioner made a soft âzoomingâ sound.
âA star zipped across the sky,â
The âzoomingâ sound they did once again increased in sound.
The âzoomingâ sound they did once again increased in sound.
âThe knight in red could not believe it. For the sky was filled with moving stars, creating a beautiful array as they shot across the glittering night sky. All for one star. One that was heading straight for the knight in red.â
Abhorson opened their mouth to make a âboomâ sound, though they were interrupted by an unexpectedly large clap of thunder.
The executioner flinched at the sound before continuing.
â..They were sent flying back, knocking back into the ground with a groan. But heard a soft giggle.â
They made a stilted giggle, before continuing.
âAt the source of the sound, the knight in red looked down and saw a child that now rested on top their stomach. A child that was from the night sky itself. A star child.â
They glanced at Nyx, before glancing away and continuing.
âFor a while, the knight in red did not get along with the star child. But as time passed, they warmed up to the star child and realized something. Something that made their steel-covered heart break.â
Abhorson glanced back to Nyx, a soft smile behind their mask.
âThe knight in red saw themselves in them, the tragedy and pain someone so young had to endure. The fearsome warrior vowed that no one was going to hurt the star child for as long as they lived. And so, they stayed in the kingdom in the clouds, living happily ever after. And some say, they still live there to this day.â
The angel finished their story, still looking at Nyx.
âHow was that? Did you like it?â
