A moment for this cutie that keeps stealing my heart
NEWWWWW SONG
Ah the power they hold
Athena blessed her with the ability to protect herself and men beheaded her for it.
That’s actually a really intetesting intpretation of it I hadn’t thought of. Most people seem to think Athena turned Medusa into a gorgon as punishment for defiling her temple, but thinking that she did so to protect her from being abused again is interesting and I like it!
Athena’s hands were tied. Yes, she was a powerful Goddess, but she was very much a woman in a “boys club”, and the true offending party (don’t think for a moment that Athena blamed Medusa for being raped in the temple, Athena knows better) held all the cards. There was nothing that Athena could do to punish the true criminal, and she was expected to punish Medusa by everyone else. What’s a Goddess to do when she cannot punish those who need to be punished and is expected to punish not only the truly innocent party, but her most beloved follower? Use that incredible brain power she had to protect Medusa at all costs, and of course the men would see it as punishment, to be have her beauty stripped from her and sent to live in the shadows. Medusa should have been KILLED for supposedly defiling the temple, whether she truly did or not, but she was given the gift of life, and the ability to protect herself and her daughters (who she bore thanks to Poseidon). This is why Medusa’s image was used to signify woman’s shelters and safe houses.
Medusa means “guardian; protectress”, and she was.
the worst part about this is the young girls commenting on this video things like "what do you expect 13-15 yos to look like" like....kids.......i'm not saying to put on your dora shirt and put your hair in pigtails i'm saying that a 13 yo wearing a full face of makeup and making thirst traps is not normal
[Video Transcript: A video of a white girl wearing heavy make up with a caption saying “are u mad I’m 13 or are u mad I look better than u at 13?” The video cuts to a black woman saying “Listen I’m not here to tear down this child, but I just want to start like a discussion that needs to be had. I feel as though social media has been manipulating young girls to want to have sex appeal or want to be sexy, to the point of no return. And really it is normalizing pedo behaviour. And that’s what they do not understand. It is very sad that these young girls don’t have people their age to look up to, that is not trying to fit this sexual narrative.” The video cuts to the white girl again and the women continues “Like without make up you look 13 and that’s perfectly fine. And by no means is this me victim blaming, but this is the introduction to something way bigger that you all need to understand. And this is why these predators can say “Oh I didn’t know she was this age”. You have girls this age trying to compete with grown ass women. And this is being glamorized to the point that you have minors that say they cant’s wait to be 18 so they can be S workers. Like, no you all need to stop. End]
anybody that has a problem with what she said and tries to turn this into a victim blaming issue is a dense fool that struggles with comprehension.
She is absolutely right and these things need to be talked about. We have a very serious problem in society that we are refusing to address.
i was having a pretty good day until derek chauvin's mother spoke.
with not one an ounce of sympathy, carolyn pawlenty proceeded to ignore all the pain, tears, and death that her son has caused the floyd family and countless others. instead of apologizing and acknowledging someone else's pain other than her own, she whined about how she believes that her son "has a good heart and he has always put others before own." she even went as far as to say that he was innocent and "a good man." pawlenty also mentioned how she won't get to see her son, or talks to him on the phone, or give him a "special hug." how dare she cry about not getting to see her son when gianna will never get to see, talk to, or hug her father again, because of her son.... when floyd's siblings will never get to see, talk to, or hug her father again, because of her son... when floyd's other family and friends will never get to see, talk to, or hug george floyd again because of her son...
not only did her words enforce the idea that his parents are a large part of the reason chauvin is the horrible person that he is, but they are a perfect example of white delusion and white disregard of the suffering that black and other racial minorities go through and have been going through for centuries.
no carolyn, your son is not a good man. he is not innocent. he is a murderer, and he deserves a lot more than 22.5 years in jail.
with all of that being said, here are a some important links: official gianna floyd fund (george floyd's child), george floyd memorial foundation, the official peace and healing for darnella fund
(feel free to reblog with other helpful links!)
compare.
THIS is what I wanna see in our history books.
Highlight the injustice and inequality. Stop erasing it.
Just went through your recents reblogs, and your moots are spittin! As a Black woman of color myself I appreciate the time people take to continuously educate non-black poc. Even though it’s a good thing, it’s tiring to constantly try to force ignorant people to learn and correct themselves, bc I do it too. And at some point I feel like people should want to actually listening. Like, why would you want to just live life being that stupid?😐
i can't even begin to imagine how tiring it is for black poc to have to continuously explain why they deserve to live freely and how their culture is theirs and no one elses.
the stupidest part to me, as a non-black poc, is that our civil rights movement that started during the dawn raids was influenced by the civil rights movement in america (primarily the black panther movement), we cannot be (and definitely are not) the only culture that has directly benefited from the actions and influences of black people. in my eyes, it's important to learn about their history as it so heavily influences my own. the very least someone can do is listen when a black poc is talking, it does not take much to educate yourself. it’s also incredibly easy to recognise that as a non-black person, these issues are not for you to have voiced opinions/views on!
at the end of the day, i'm listening to black people when they talk about everything when it comes to racism, cultural appropriation and pretty much anything in between. their voices have been silenced for too many years and as a consumer of a lot of black artists/content, the least i can do is reblog and point ignorant people in the right direction.
thank you to all my black mutuals who made the posts i've reblogged for taking the time to educate people both poc and non-poc. your voices are important and i am so sorry you have to deal with dumdums
