It feels like therianthropy is no longer an identity but a performance. I search the tags for discussion, only to be met with a sea of dances, masks, flags, and stimboards. People (mostly younger people, I've noticed) will all but ignore you if you show no interest in "therian gear" or quadrobics. No one wants to just talk about therianthropy and how it impacts our lives.
It's fine to have fun with therianthropy. That's not what has me upset. What bothers me is that therianthropy has become a fandom where people are more concerned about posting cute edits and arguing about who is and isn't valid than they are actually discussing therianthropy itself.
Therianthropy is basically Furry 2.0 at this point. I miss the way the community used to be, because what it is now has little, if anything, to do with identifying as an animal.
Many are keen to argue that this is just how the community is now and to just post your own content, but I've seen it firsthand how there is a lack of care about others' identities depending on what social medias you look on. When I first joined the community almost 10 years ago, there was such a magical, welcoming feel to it. At the core, I think the issue is a lack of community connection and not so much the "trend" sides. Personal posts overridden by, dare I say, broad engagement farming.
I remember watching a 2010s quality video tutorial on how to do quadrobics like a hyena, with special attention to sloping the back and pacing accurate to hyena gait. There were recommendations on how to find videos of your theriotype walking and how to mimic that.
There were aesthetic boards with links to items you could buy or make yourself based on your theriotypes, like a wolf blanket, or an elk bracelet. Crafts like environment-friendly scent sprays and theta delta made with sticks could be found around the community.
Folks had their own websites and blogs for documenting their experiences. A new phantom shift here and a term for a unique identity there. A post about one experience could be turned into a discussion, and from there, a community, all centered around a unique and beautiful nonhuman experience.
It's not about cutting out quadrobics and gear, it's not about barring and gatekeeping voluntary identities, it's not about banishing the newer generations of kin folks that we once were. None of that. That's a part of what makes this community a community.
To me, it seems to be about community engagement. Whether that identity is physical, spiritual, voluntary, fluid, flickering, intense or not, just for fun, or otherwise. I feel like the root issue ends up being the lack of care or interest in others' identities, which is what pushes down personal posts that express what the community is about, and boosts solely generalized, non-content posts.
There is no reason to stop posting memes and silly posts, and no reason to attack them, either. That does nothing but contribute to the useless discourse in the therian community. That's where posts calling out an issue become the issue.
Boost a kinfirmation post, tell someone their phantom shifts sound really cool, ask someone what movie resonates with their identity most, make a post about a weird animal fact and how that affects your identity, take a picture of a tiger plushie at the store and tag a tiger therian. Engage with the community, and I bet we'll see at least a bit of improvement. ^^
If you see me post/reblog more than 2 times in a row that means I am in a flare and all I can do is lay down. I use tumblr because it’s primarily text based so it doesn’t give me as much eyestrain if I use it for a prolonged period of time like a social media platform with scrolling autoplaying videos does. I’m on here so much because it is my only semblance of community because I’m stuck in the house / in bed for days at a time with little communication with any irl person. They want to act like high levels of sickness whether it be airborne or foodborne are normal and not the responsibility of agencies like public health or food safety regulation so they can get away with dismantling them.

Mass disease is not normal and preventable. One of the number one causes is how large agricultural companies refuse to treat their employees like humans: people picking the food you eat don't have bathrooms, so when they get sick, they're left with a choice to shit their pants and get back to work or squat in the field and get back to work. The very root of the capitalist mode of production, i.e., the self-expansion of all capital, large or small, by means of the “free” purchase and consumption of labour-power, would be attacked. Factory legislation is therefore brought to a deadlock before these 500 cubic feet of breathing space. The sanitary officers, the industrial inquiry commissioners, the factory inspectors, all harp, over and over again, upon the necessity for those 500 cubic feet, and upon the impossibility of wringing them out of capital. They thus, in fact, declare that consumption and other lung diseases among the workpeople are necessary conditions to the existence of capital. [215]

Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.
Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.
All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.
After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.
It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.
And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.
The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.
Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.
ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.
Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.

I had the best scrambled eggs of my life earlier. They were so good. I’m so mad I didn’t make enough because they were AMAZING. I might even make more. It was: eggs, fresh dill weed (leaves only), fresh chives, feta cheese, salt and pepper. I cooked them in olive oil. It was SO GOOD. I lowkey might make more. I have an overabundance of dill and chives right now because they’re from my garden so I might just make a whole bunch and freeze it?? Im not sure I have enough feta for a giant batch tbh. We’ll see…

The cost of a one-way flight ticket for two people is $1096.17 dollars.
If we wanted to migrate in a "tourist way/go to live way" we would need would $10.537 dollars or € 9.760,95 euros aprox to pay all the documents (including the passaport), the bank money I need to have to prove I deserve to migrate, the tickets, rent money I have to show, and all that. So I'm just hoping to have the money for the tickets only and not be trafficked in the process of leaving or killed before that.
Please, we need to migrate so help us to not die. This is no longer asking money to eat, this now is to not be tortured and disappeared. We can speak and read english even if not perfectly. If you know a country that allow political refugees and put less trouble to migrants, please comment.
I open a mail box so people that prefer to donate goods (like soap, shampoo, menstrual pads, detergent, tablets to keep water clean, heat patches for winter, N95 masks or similars, etc) can sent it in place of money, but (sadly) it can't be food because I have to pay to the border $39.13 for 1 kg to 500 kg of any food I could try to enter the country. I still don't know what to do about that because I have coeliac disease and flour is essential for survival. I have some rice flour, but I can’t make bread with it or survive on it.

In In August 2024, I was without electricity, phone or internet because of really bad storms with lots of lightning, rain and strong winds. We even have floods. On 25 May 2025, we had our first tornado in the south of the country. This has never happened before. Then spring and summer came and all caught fire throughout different regions a number of times. There were fires every week for months. Almost every day somewhere in the country. The global warming is part of the problem, but just a consequence.
To make things worst? We still live under the dictatorship constitution made during Pinochet's dictatorship installed by USA/The West, and its politicians and families, whom own everything here and pay the owners of internet to have bots, make fake news, terror campaings, etc ploted to make the country sink and put a pinochetist nazi as president: josé antonio kast.
The war of USA (operation condor) against South America lead to the new president of Chile be a chilean german pinochetist nazi (his father a nazi liutenant that used the ratlines with the help of the Vatican to escape after exterminating ppl all over europe, for example in germany, italy, france and soviet union) and is proud of his nazi family which also helped to exterminate chileans and anyone in Chile during Pinochet's dictatorship. He even is memeber of a fundation dedicated to the creator of the dictatorship constitution, pinochetist Jaime Guzman whom Kast loves deeply since his youth. Between his people there are torturers, nazis and neo nazis, a pinochetist nephew of a german pedo christian cultist (check Colonia Dignidad among many other cults), families of german colonialists that made genocide of natives at the south of Chile and Argentina between XIX and XX century, and still kill them today, they have slaves, are pedos that kidnap kids and teens, traffick babies, etc. All upper class from european background, upper class from Chile, as well the cops, agents, and military. Kast was a piece of shit since childhood, being part of the chilean version of the nazi youth and helped Pinochet, and this past decade helped to put Bolsonaro and Milei in power in Brazil and Argentina, as well far right presidents, ministers, and organisations all over the world.
He hates and wants to enslave South America, poc, women, children, workers, etc anyone that is not like him. He is proud of his nazi family and their work helping the Pinochet Dictatorship. He is a proud pinochetist and visits torturers that are in prison for crimes against humanity as well have such criminals among his people which, among many things, put rats inside the vaginas of women, trained dogs to rape people, opened mothers to steal the babies from their wombs, forced fathers to rape their daugthers, made kids eat shit with torns and trow their bodies all over the country, mutilated people and torture them in ways so monstrous that no one in the world told you so you all can keep living without fighting them.
My couple and I need to fly the country. We survived the ex president Piñera tortures and genocide in 2019/2020, we will not survive another extermination again.
We still unemployed even when we tried everything. They are closing all cultural areas and institutions (museums, schools, workshops, galleries, libraries, sites of memory that teach and keep the testimonies, artpieces, and work of resistance against dictatorship, institutions to find the tortured and dissappeared, etc), seeking to also eliminate our area of specialisation, including the teaching of how to read. I'm very gaunt, and in all honestly I can no longer work because of my disability. I'm even losing my hair and growing grayhair. Now getting a job in our areas is asking to be tortured and killed. We lost everything we lived for.
My health is getting even worst. Chronic pain, chronic fatigue, long covid, celiac disease and lactose intolerance. Being autistic and having c-PTSD as well depression and fibromyalgia doesn't help and the violence never ends.
As far as I'm concerned, I've been on my own all my life (abusive family, my father tried to kill my mother, brothers criminals and abusers, now I'm alone and homeless bc I left the storage room in which i was living). My only support is my couple that also helps me as a caregiver and takes care of an old abusive cultist mother which pay the basic bills. My couple is the only family I have. This means having less money bc i make the bills bigger and the pinochetist nazi is gonna eliminate the money that elderly people are pay by the state for being a mother and a widow which is the money that pays for food and water and a roof over our heads. The father has already died. The neighbours are violent.
My couple fears that we end up in the streets, homeless. I fear that we will die under the dictatorship of Kast bc that's what what this ppl do, specially his family and all the other upper class families. The neighbours are gonna snitch on us. Their mother told a family of cops and agents (primal agents of dictatorship here) that she is a communist even when she is not (she an iliterate cultish evangelical with far right ideas) so we have a target in the face thanks to that. In the last big dictatorship, people (including kids and teens) were taken from their houses and jobs (specially students, univeritaries, teachers and culture workers, for example which is all our labels basically) and most never returned, being disappeared. Others were tortured so much that they died or ended up disabled and traumatized for life.
