verospence:
“That is a question I don’t think we’ll never know the answer to,” Veronica shrugged. “My best guess would be too much validation as a child, probably was never told to shut up and that his opinions mattered, even when they weren’t asked for.” Perhaps if the blonde wasn’t so irritated, she’d have been able to see anything positive regarding the interaction, but at the moment, she was just annoyed. “He’s lucky I didn’t break his hand for trying to take my pack of cigarettes,” her hand dug into her pocket, checking to see they were still there.
“Sounds very plausible,” Thea admitted, the hint of a grin tugging at her lips. It all seemed to make perfect sense when Veronica laid it out like that, and for a brief second, the brunette almost felt bad for the guy— but only almost. “I hope he knows. Or, I hope you told him? How did the ‘date’ end, exactly? Did you just storm off? I think I would have, honestly. Or like, sneaked off at least...”
itscaseyjane:
“Are you kidding? Don’t even worry about it,” Casey assures. “This is the best thing that’s happened to me today,” she tells the stranger. “Hands down,” she confirms as she looks at the big dog, smiling. “So, Gizmo, huh? Is it because he looked like a Gremlin when he was smaller or is it something else?” Casey wonders, ideas swirling in her head about why this adorable dog could possibly have the name it does. Then she remembers– “Oh, and I’m Casey by the way,” she introduces, sticking out her hand as she wills herself to look away from the large pet for a moment. “Complete stranger who is totally in love with your dog,” she adds with a chuckle.
Relieved that the woman took it so nicely, a large smile tugged at Thea’s lips. “I’m glad you think that— though I really wouldn’t have blamed you if you were a little alarmed. I know he can be pretty intimidating when he comes dashing straight towards you like that, but hand on my heart; he’s the softest, nicest dog there is.” One of the reasons why Thea loved him so much—- why she had needed him in the first place, and still did. “Yeah, Gizmo. It’s funny, you’re the second person to ask me about the Gremlins thing today. I don’t know though, unfortunately. He already had the name when I got him, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were a reference.” She chuckled lightly, her shoulders rising and falling in a shrug. When the blonde introduced herself, Thea was quick to grab her hand and give it a light shake. “Nice to meet you, Casey. I’m Thea—- and as for Gizmo, it seems the feeling is very mutual.” Looking down at the large dog, he very clearly only had eyes for the blonde as he sat with his back to Thea, staring up at Casey.

Nick stood still, stunned as the woman wrangled the larger than life dog that had just been dashing towards him, fully intent on covering his face with slobber - at least, Nick hoped. The dog looked happy to be there, overjoyed to be around other people, so there was no doubt in his mind that he - Gizmo - meant no harm. “It’s fine. He’s a pretty big guy, though. He startled me a little, but that’s all.” Nick took a deep breath and stepped forward cautiously, putting his fist in front of the dog’s face to have an introductory sniff. “Nice name. Is that a Gremlins reference?”
“I know,” she agreed with an apologetic smile and a light grimace. “Not everyone’s that excited about a big bear-like animal running straight towards them— I’m so sorry if he scared you,” she added, clearly genuine. She knew she would’ve probably been spooked herself, had the roles been reversed, but then again... a lot of things spooked her. Gizmo whinged a little, clearly wanting to talk to the man even though he was now on his leash, sitting at Thea’s feet. When a hand was offered though, he wasted no time before he sniffed and licked it, panting a few times as if to say he approved. “Oh, I don’t know actually— he had the name already when I got him, but it definitely could be.”
warrenkenna:
The lake had become Kenna’s personal escape, the place she would visit the most and spend hours after hours; getting lost in her own world while drawing. It combined a picturesque view and all the peacefulness she needed to get away from certain thoughts. At this hour of the day, a few people would come by - some of them would walk, others would job but it was always rare to see someone actually spending some of their time there. Walking down the small path, it took a moment for Kenna to notice a huge bear-like dog running towards her direction and the whole reaction was too comical not to cheer her mood, causing a soft laugh to escape her. “Oh my God, he looks way too excited.” She exclaimed, reaching out to scratch the dog’s head. “Hi buddy —”
Pink tongue hanging out one side of his mouth, Gizmo had probably never looked more content, his tail wagging at a generous pace while the young woman scratched his head— something he could never, ever get enough off. In fact, Thea was pretty sure he’d fuss about the second Kenna’s hand retracted again. “I know! He’s a little bit nuts,” she joked. “And very much into you, but you already know that. Your not-so-secret admirer here. Isn’t that right, Gizmo?” She chuckled and patted the large dog, watching him watch Kenna. “Sorry we interrupted you though— are you drawing?” She asked curiously.

Aidan heard the dog before he saw it, his attention immediately ceased by the splashing sound that came from the lake. His head whipped around, a laugh escaping him when he recognised the Newfoundland now racing towards both him and Goliath, his own dog barking in greeting. They’d met a couple of times before, so he knew they’d be fine with one another. He moved to rise back to standing, brushing the dirt from his knees as a smile crept over his features, watching Thea in the distance. When she reached him, Goliath preoccupied with trying to make friends with the other dog —- no doubt for the dozenth time now —- he shook his head in amusement as he realised she hadn’t recognised him straight away, no doubt caught up in what was happening. “Yeah, I’m used to it by now,” he commented lightly.
Caught in the horror of chasing down a rather large dog to prevent it from trying to cuddle a poor, unsuspecting person, Thea wasn’t even close to recognizing Aidan and Goliath before she had Gizmo on his leash. “Oh!” Recognition came hard and fast then, as did the smile on her lips, and off came the leash again— Gizmo and Goliath were more or less pals already, and Thea was very clearly happy to see them both; now that she actually recognized them. “I didn’t see it was you, but I’m so glad it was. I don’t think everyone would’ve been too happy about this bear running up at them like that,” she said, grimacing lightly before a soft chuckle escaped her instead. “How’re you?”
Phantom Lake had become one of Thea’s favorite places to walk Gizmo; her three year old rescue— a large, gentle Newfoundland dog with a heart of gold. She’d only had him for about nine months, but she truly couldn’t imagine life without him now. As he whipped past her, tongue hanging out the side of his mouth, he jumped into the water and then hurried back out again, circling her to return into the water and then back out again. Alert, and too friendly for his own good, he noticed a nearby person before Thea did, heading straight for them to say hi. “Oh— Gizmo, no.” Thea hurried after him, clapping her hands to get his attention. “Gizmo!” She managed to grab his collar a second before he would’ve undoubtedly hugged the stranger, and most likely licked their entire face. “I’m so sorry,” she breathed, looking up at the person and quickly hooking the leash back onto his harness. “He’s harmless, I promise. Just very friendly...”
srosenstock:
As much as he wanted to say that the East Coast was better in every single way, Sam couldn’t deny that Bellevue was wonderful in the fall. Washington State was a lot prettier than he was willing to admit. And a lot of people seemed to think the same thing, especially with all the decorations and seasonal themes to quite literally everything around him. He sat in a heated coffee shop when he spotted a couple of young girls taking a selfie together across the street, casually obstructing pedestrian’s way, he couldn’t help but chuckle. He turned to the person closest to him, pushing his hands deep into the pockets of his jacket. “It’s a little funny to me how they say that young people are too self-absorbed with their selfies, but the Ancient Romans literally made life-size statues of themselves. They loved themselves so much they were willing to pose for a sculpture… for months. Gotta cut the kids these days some slack, no?”
With a glint in her eye, Thea glanced up at Sam curiously, the corner of her lip twitching into a subtle smile when his thoughts were unveiled— and surely not unappreciated in her company. “That’s an interesting point,” she admitted, but without actually being all that surprised. As far as she knew, Sam was full of those; interesting points and equally enthralling thoughts. “A good point, I should’ve said,” she edited herself, the hint of a chuckle escaping her lips as she watched the adolescent girls squeezing together to fit into the numerous selfies they had to have taken at that point. They almost didn’t look real to Thea—- but not in a bad way, just as if in a dream somehow. “Do you think they would pose for a sculpture of themselves?” She asked, thinking out loud more than anything.
gisellexsilva:
“Do you know what the hell is going on over there, and why we can’t leave?” Giselle asked the person beside her, wondering why three cops were blocking the exit, presumedly telling the people closest that they were not allowed to leave— not yet at least. It didn’t look too worrisome, but it didn’t feel entirely harmless either.
“I’m not sure,” Thea mumbled, swallowing roughly. She wasn’t good in situations like these, not anymore at least, and she already felt like the walls were coming in closer. “I don’t think they’re telling anyone yet. They just told us to stay put…” Her voice came out strained, which was shameful enough in itself, but it was the least of her worries right now. “I’m— I’m sure it’s nothing serious.” Or maybe that was wishful thinking.
verospence:
“…and then he had the fucking nerve to tell me that ‘nice, young ladies shouldn’t swear’ before proceeding to try and take my pack of cigarettes out of my hand because it wasn’t ‘healthy’,” Veronica rolled her eyes, blowing the smoke above her head. “Suffice to say, Tinder sucks and the dude’s lucky I didn’t toss my drink in his face.”
Thea’s brows notched higher on her forehead, creases etched into her skin in pure disbelief. She knew men could be absolutely ridiculous, misogynistic and just plain, ignorant assholes, but it still surprised her how obvious they were about it— some of them, at least. “That’s absurd— what the hell was wrong with him?” She furrowed her brows, head shaking and her mouth lightly ajar. “I commend you for having the restraint to not throw your drink in his face. I guess he deserved worse than that anyway, and you’d be out one drink.”
braxton-andrews:
“You know, technically I’m not allowed to be handling anything sharp enough to be considered a weapon,” Braxton announced as he plucked three darts from the board, voice carrying to his opponent behind him, a crooked sweep of a smile adorning the apex of his jaw, “––but that’s a risk I’m willing to take, if it means going best two out of three with you. Come on,” He urged with an extend of his arm, blunt darts lain in the flat of his palm for them to take, the specifics of his probation the last thing on his mind, “Rematch?”
“Are they though? Sharp enough to be considered weapons?” Thea questioned. “Either way,” she said quickly, fending off any time for him to answer her musing. “—I won’t tell if you don’t tell.” A lighthearted smile tugged gently at her lips, private almost, shoulders rising in an innocent shrug. She eyed him when he extended an open palm towards her, her eyes narrowing thoughtfully as she contemplated her next move. “Should I really risk losing face? I don’t know,” she chuckled, a moment or two passing before she reached out and plucked half the darts from his palm. “One more round, and then I probably should get going.”

I love doing interviews that are about work that I do, films that I make. I am not very interested in the rest. I think I have always been quite reserved and a bit frightened of that whole thing.

“I’ve been really lucky; my first three films were all directed by a female director. I’ve had some really cool women to look up to. I think the sisterhood really creates a mentoring environment. Change is about initiatives like Time’s Up and 50/50 by 2020, it’s about making sure you include women in all departments, about really making an effort to not only have women in front of the camera, but also behind.”
