Dead & Deaf
Next to the snakes, there is a bear, who you will never see, but only hear.
While you are trying - aimlessly - to unravel yourself from the little snake's anatomy, you finally notice him as a shadow against the window, behind the door & between the sheets.
You also realize the bear has always been there by the offal smell you can never brush out of your throat, but you never see him. & the people who say they have are full of shit, anyway.
Because not only is he invisible, he is quiet & always intentional in his small pin-drop whispers. If you hear him, through a grunt or a grumble, as he seeks out the bile from the pit of your gut as you stand in crowds - or through disjointed & unsettling grinding as he chews the marrow from your loved things as you watch him from a mirror - remember, that he is doing it just for you.
Whatever it is, it's a gift. & anyone who mishears it as anything else might as well be deaf.
Which is only funny or ironic, because the deaf are the only people who hear him loudest & with the most clarity.
When they try to tell us about him, the bear, & all we hear is garbled muck we're trying politely to swim through, we are missing a very important warning.
The deaf are being patient, dealing with patients in denial. They're dealing with the handicapped & they're yelling, "Are you fucking deaf? It's the NOISE you should fear!"
Of course, at this point, people are offended at even being asked if they're dead in the first place.
Those are the same people who are so scared of the silence that they sit in the bear's lap & let him breathe down their necks. The same people who swear they saw him that are full of shit, anyway.
& maybe the deaf choke on the words because they're appalled at the sight, or maybe we can't hear them because our ears are full of rotting honey.
Which, as all blind folk know, is the only thing that'll really shut the bear up, anyway.
The Womb & The Wow
The closer I look at everything - every piece is just a scale making up the larger snake. The smaller one constricts you as you focus on the revealing scales; you think you’re making a discovery to share with your friends, but you’re just being killed beautifully.
Every piece is a scale: her eyelids, the small key into the trunk, the way your fingernails collect dirt, the earring in the drain, cheap beer bottle caps, buttons on old denim - each one connects in ten thousand ways you think you’ll uncover when you’re high. But being high is one of the scales, too; the little snake has been doing this for a long time & by the time you feel her tiny existence amidst your giant amazing Sudoku, you’re breathing your final, pleading breath & the only word you can manage to squeeze out is “wow.” But some people think the word might be “womb.”
They’ve done studies on it - (the magazine covers are scales, too) - & no one has seen its spine except people who look into microscopes & telescopes at the same time.
They’re called scientists. & even if you are one, you need to meet a poet to decipher the words - & if you’re a poet, good fucking luck finding a scientist who will read them out for you.
The biggest scales are actually scabs, but you’d never know it because they’re always getting scratched off.
It’s another way the little snake keeps you busy while she wraps herself around the flesh you need the most.
She might be killing you, but it’s the larger snake that is swallowing you whole.

Please spread awareness of mental disorders so we can #disarmthestigma - Thank you.
Hello - I am a 25 year old who lives happily, functions normally & lives a relatively healthy life. But some days my condition gets the better of me. Today was one of those days. While I try to keep composure & take care of myself, some days I fall short. (I was very much worse for wear this morning). Thankfully, I have an extensive & stable support system - especially, my best friend & partner who must have been tailored just for me. (Thank you all so much). This video was made on a whim. I hope to bring some insight into the world of mental disorders & to let fellow sufferers know they are not alone. I believe we will one day be able to defeat the awful societal stigma surrounding these illnesses... Until then, we need to continue sharing our stories to help others understand, while also comforting those who share these struggles. Maybe in a few months I can make another video telling you I found the right meds. I am diligent in seeking help, so this may be the case... (& lucky enough to have the means to)... maybe in a few months I will be in the same boat, but I know I will still be here battling this "thing." It is a part of me & that acceptance is key in maintaining one's health & the healing process. I am a firm believer that humans can defeat their opposition in spite of deafening odds. Please seek help. Try to communicate with & expand your support system. Keep fighting for your happiness, health & self-worth. I know it is not easy, & I am sorry it isn't... But, you are worth the fight & there are a lot of ways in which you can seek help. Anyway... thank you all for listening - people who are curious, people who don't understand, people who suffer. I want to be a voice for those like me. A personal saying: "At my best I am a beacon, at my worst, I am a well." Wishing everyone the best. Know you are not alone.
Artista Visual
A fringe visual artist from Mexico, Armando Bravo manipulates images in every which medium. His multimedia representations - sometimes chaotic, always expressive - are a daily account of his personal yearnings, emotions and ponderings. With no set style, Bravo is an artistic wanderer unafraid to explore new mediums and uncover new ground in his autobiographic portfolio. Experienced and secure, Bravo dares us to investigate his body as not only his subject, but the very medium in which he excels.
You can connect with Armando on Tumblr, Instagram, Facebook, Behance and Society6.
Blood on Blood.
Brenda Cuevas Moreno is a young photographer that hails from Spain. Her sensual images flirt with what it is to be a young woman in a bloody, but beautiful post-riot grrrl world. Pulling from everyday life, Moreno’s photography is bold, but simple - her composition is promising as she travels into her 20′s with mature grace. Vintage, hipster, grunge and retro blend together in Moreno’s art making it both contemporary and classic.
You can reach Brenda on Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter.
The Art of ‘Happy Mistakes’
Benjamin Björklund separates his studio time between Uppsala, Sweden and London, UK, perhaps much in the way his work is so evenly divided between realism and abstractism. Using naturalism to frame his work, Björklund captivates his audience with the use of "abstracted light and darts of colour.” What keeps his viewers talking is Björklund’s ability to capture the foggiest of emotions with the most simplistic approach, creating his signature surreal, yet grounded composition.
Björklund specializes in oils on canvas, as well as watercolors. You can contact Benjamin via his personal website, Facebook and Instagram.
Alien Landscape - The Southern Reach Trilogy
Jeff VanderMeer adds a stunning trilogy to the genre of weird fiction. SRT is a serious contender for scifi we will remember for years to follow & I would not be surprised if we see a Blockbuster adaptation in the next decade, if not sooner.
Read if you are a fan of the dark, diverse, haunting & poetic strain of science fiction that is often credited to Lovecraft. VanderMeer is a true wordsmith - every word & every image is a calculated trigger that eventually explodes in the following chapters. He plants the most subtle allusions from book to book that focused readers will bathe in the recognition - as these images only build the suspense.
It's a colourful, honest read that is just as terrifying as it is enveloping. SRT reads like a nature expedition, a private journal, a spy novel & a science fiction horror all in one.
Area X is the best new place to visit & the worst place at the same time.
You can find a study guide for The Southern Reach Trilogy here, reach out to VanderMeer on Twitter & purchase his trilogy on Amazon.
Wireframing & Greyscale
A self-trained artist & student, Chrissy Brimmage uses her crystallized style & bold line-art to reflect on current events, personal emotions & daily happenings. In what looks to be a shout-out to Picasso’s cubism (but surely with her own artistic twist), Brimmage carefully constructs her artwork to be both minimal & meaningful, playing with the human form in abstract ways across a dreamy landscape.
Her focuses are freehand drawing as well as digital art. You can view more of her work on Behance, Instagram, Tumblr & Twitter.
Melissa S. McCracken - synesthetic art
According to Dictionary.com, synesthesia is “a sensation produced in one modality when a stimulus is applied to another modality, as when the hearing of a certain sound induces the visualization of a certain color.”
McCracken uses her interesting condition as a vehicle to throw us into a world quite similar to Pollack’s, one of abstract expressionism, but tinted with surrealism. Named after certain songs, such as At Last (second image posted), McCracken paints us a window into her vibrant world where sound and color combine in a beautiful and stunning display. Sure to stir up emotions in any viewer, McCracken’s pieces can barely be dissected without intense admiration and wonder.
You can access her work on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and her portfolio on her website. She also created a reddit album.
Webcomic: The Boy Who Fell - updates on Tuesday/Friday
Referred to as DED within the webcomic community, SFRambo lovingly gifts the Internet with 2 weekly doses of The Boy Who Fell, which is equal parts mystery, demonology, adventure, comedy & fun. What I love most about this series & the creator is that DED constantly upholds communication with readers, who often use Disqus as a public forum to reflect on the latest strip. (It’s been getting pretty juicy lately, I’ll tell you that much). As posted on Patreon, DED is “a teacher who devotes all free time to drawing comics.” DED tackles interesting perspectives through the use of creative composition & a well-managed palette to take you on an adventure through Hell, as you’ve never seen it before.
You can connect to DED via Twitter, Patreon and the comic homepage.
Come Dance with the Angels
Highly trained & well-known artist, Peter Mohrbacher (bugmeyer) can be found on Magic the Gathering cards, as well as online at Angelarium.net. With rich detail, expert execution & the eye of an adventurer, dive into Mohrbacher’s world to enjoy a journey that is as visual as it is sensational - his Angelarium artwork is often accompanied by poetry that will guide you much in the way Virgil must have guided Dante. Mixing the workings of a classically trained artist with a new wave medium, Mohrbacher creates a world rich in fantasy that promises to entice the audience, pulling them in to explore a dreamscape that could only be brought to life by an enthusiast with a vision.
Look for him on Patreon, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook & his personal website for more.
Moon pillars are a type of light pillar. Moon pillars occur when the Moon is low enough in the sky to be close to the horizon. The ice crystals involved are generally flat or columnated, allowing a vertical beam of light to reflect above and below the Moon in a straight line. (Source)
The Luzon bleeding-heart is a secretive dove that is named for the red spot on its breast, which resembles a bleeding wound. As its common name suggests, the Luzon bleeding-heart inhabits the island of Luzon in the Philippines, as well as two neighboring islands. (Source)
There’s just one real human skull left at Pirates of the Carribean in Disney Land
When it first opened, there were human skeletons galore. Now, there’s only one remnant left of human remains — the skull and crossbones located over the bed in the Captain’s Quarters. (Source)
