Hi everyone! With the December photo challenge starting soon, I was just thinking about how now would be a good idea to put together a directory of all AG fandom blogs here on Tumblr. It seems like there are a lot of new users here since the October photo challenge, and so during this next challenge I’d like to give newcomers a central location to start getting to know everyone, find new friends, and have access to resources beyond what I provide.

So if you consider your blog to be focused on, adjacent to, or mostly featuring American Girl or other similar brands, and you would like it to be listed in this directory, please reblog this post to the blog you want listed. I’ll only be looking at reblogs, not likes. I know many of you have sideblogs and so hopefully this is the easiest way to go about collecting blog usernames for the list. 

I won’t collect any other information about you. The directory will list only your blog username, organized in alphabetical order. It will be continually updated, so there’s no deadline for this. I’ll check the notes and update the page regularly, starting today. The list will be posted on a separate page accessible via my blog’s header, and I’ll make a separate post with a unique hashtag for those of you who use the app and don’t have access to my blog’s header. 

I will also use this list to make sure I’m following all of you! I sometimes slack or forgetful about looking at new blogs who participate in this fandom. Having a list in front of me will make it easier for me to know whom to follow. And I’m sure this will be helpful for those of you who also want to follow more blogs!

because i keep making the mistake of going into ag communities outside of tumblr, i've really been trying to reckon with the consumerism in the fandom, so here's a few reminders if you are into collecting ag items!

this is a hobby! and like all hobbies, it should be bringing you joy. if it's stressing you out, that's probably a sign that you need to step back, which is an absolutely okay thing to do

your collection is valid even if it includes replicas of items originally made by american girl

you do not have to buy items that you don't love just to reach the arbitrary goal of "completing" a collection

you should not be purchasing items that you don't like just for the sake of keeping up with american girl's newest releases

american girl has continuously been showing us that they are much more interested these days in being a luxury nostalgia brand. you do not have to engage with what the brand is currently doing or producing to be a part of the fandom or collecting community

in fact, you do not have to do a lot of research to learn that mattel is not an ethical company. i'm not going to shame anyone who does continue to purchase products from american girl, but please do not be purchasing items from this brand just from a place of consumerism. there are so many small businesses that produce items for ag dolls that you can support, and you can easily find many second-hand american girl products

you should never be spending money that you don't have on american girl

making clothes and items is valid! handmade parts of your collection are beautiful

adding to the last point using items from other 18 inch doll brands on your ag dolls and vice versa is also completely valid. our generation, maplelea, and other such brands are not “lesser” or “less quality” than ag simply because they are cheaper. most of my doll furniture is our generation because ag charges 3x more for the same product because you are buying the brand name with the product. dont feel the need to spend much much more than you can afford for the brand name
