Over the last five years, readers and authors alike have started to notice a steady decline in publishing deals for historical romance books. Author of the What To Read If newsletter, Elizabeth Held, recently pointed out on Threads that only seven of the eighty romances acquired by leading publishers in 2024 were historicals.
When asking historical romance authors if publishers are no longer interested in buying historicals, authors had a range of answers all pointing to publishers being pickier than they used to be when it comes to the subgenre..."

I then put my infantry line into the ruins, where they were assaulted by his one dead across from them, repulsing and driving them way back.
He did manage to get his scary elephants+infantry brigade into a giant line and march it halfway across the board (not easy) to threaten my left flank, but I handled it.
The final shot is endgame; my cataphracts managed two moves (not easy) to charge his late-to-the-party mixed infantry/elephants unit and mauled it, with one unit of horses following up into the engagement on the right, helping to slaughter the hapless infantry in a double envelopment.
