Midnight
His hand pressed to the glass, a fervent desire in his bones to leave his shelter. To go out into the world... But he couldn't. He daren't. There was so much he needed to account for, first.
Shaded crimsons alighted on the figures far below, and he retreated back into the dark of his room. He looked over the Dark that wrapped up his arms, that he knew would be creeping along his jaw by now...
It had been far too long. It had been hard, the past few years, to stay away. To keep those he had grown to care for safe... He'd made sure they wouldn't remember him... Or, at least, he hoped.
It was growing later, past the edge of night into morning. So early, and yet so late... He settled on the couch, slowly producing the flickering crystal and running a clawed digit over the faceted surface.
"The past behind me... My future dead... All I am is this moment. A parting thing, a sad echo of what was... If I could go back... Perhaps I would. Perhaps I would go back on everything. What I was. Who I was... Would it make a difference? ...Perhaps. Or perhaps I would repeat the same mistakes."
Hold tightening, feeling the cracks growing wider, splintering... He thought on it for a moment. He knew that he was a monster. But even so, he couldn't bring himself to shatter it. It was his lifeline as much as his shackle. He wouldn't risk the world for his selfish desire to go out.
A sigh left his lips as he went for a drink... He stared at the bottle for a time, then decided against it. He instead headed upstairs. Staring at the bed, the blond paused for but a moment, contemplating. To feign humanity... Or to embrace himself?
Weak. That was what he was. Thoughts that came to mind as he slipped between the sheets. He wanted, so badly, to be what he wasn't... And how had that worked? He had been one of them, alright. Had murdered like one of them...
No. No, he had murdered like... Himself. And for that, he had paid. But the debt wasn't really paid. He would fix that. In the morning. He turned over for the night, glancing over the clock. Twelve. No better time...
It felt like only a moment. Closing his eyes... then dragging them open. His bed was hard, his bones ached. He rubbed at his eyes, patting the nightstand for his familiar shades.
The pair that he held made him pause. Aviators? He squinted, then placed them on his face. Slowly dragging himself out of bed. Early. Far earlier than he should have been awake.
Dragged himself to the closet and paused... took a step back. Because... Those weren't his clothes. Not any more. He staggered to the mirror, looking at himself. His features were far younger than he had thought... And when he took off the sunglasses, his eyes were a pristine blue.
A step back. Then another. He felt... off. And when he reached out to the darkness, he only felt the strain of... muscles. Reaching for something that... didn't come?
He grabbed his clothes, yanking them on. They were uncomfortably familiar, but they would do. Heading to the kitchen, he paused as his stomach growled. Normally, the blond would forgo eating... but with his circumstances...
He went and made himself food, setting down at the table. His eyes darted over the walls, familiar but... old. Dated. He wracked his mind to remember why. What made them so familiar? His eyes wandered until they settled on the calendar there.
He choked on his coffee, jerking up so quick his chair knocked over, and he raced to the wall, leafing through the pages, staring. He pulled off the sunglasses to get a better look... He must have been mistaken...
Because it was 1995, in his old Raccoon City appartment, and Alpha couldn't believe it.
...Is this canon? Like, 100%? No more Alpha? No more Darkness? Is that just.... It?
100%. That’s the end. That’s it. That’s all, folks. Alpha and the ‘walkers are done.
Chaos
Immediately fell over the group. Delta was cheering, while Beta was arguing of better ways to remove him from existence. Gamma was struggling against Epsilon, clamoring for Alpha to reconsider. Epsilon was silent, then snapping at the other three to shut up, arguing.
“ENOUGH.” Alpha bellowed. They fell silent. “This is not your decision to make. It is mine, and you will respect it.” He snarled.
“Alpha... I... I can’t. I won’t be apart of this.” Gamma protested. “You’ve been doing so well! You’ve lasted so long!”
Alpha let his head fall. “...No. I haven’t. I hid it. But my sanity and resolve has been decaying for years now. I’m on my last legs. My last strands of reason. I’m not going to make it much longer. And I refuse to take you down with me... I did that once before.”
There was a long, lingering silence. Then Delta stepped forward. “What’s the plan, brother?”
“...I’m going to absorb as much of the lingering Dark as I can. I’m going to let everything go. Then you are going to seal me. Bind me to this place and make sure, with all of your ability, to never allow me to escape. ...Once you have the binding in place... you move on and forget.”
“...Alright. Teach us.”
NO, YOU CAN'T. YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED.
((W͈̹̱̝̥̱̞̺͔̫̅ͫͨ̅́͢͡͞H̸͍̘̮̙̫̲̍̔̉̎̉͘̕O͆̔̎ͮ͆ͯ̔ͥ̿ͥͤͤ͊́́͘͝҉̤̯̝̫̥̖͚̯̬̞̞͎͔͎̤͇ ̷̡͕̯͕͔͚͕̿ͬ̎̓̓ͫ̌̍̂̽ͬ̓̆ͣ̌ͫͨ̚Ś̶̨̥̮̤̱͖̺̭̭̦̞ͤ̎̌̾̇́̄̅͗͟͠Ạ̢̱̘̱͚̩̘̥̪͇͈̩͇͉͖̺ͦͪ̑̉ͬ̊̈ͬ̇͑̃̋͆̈́̀͌͐̓͡Y̴͇͍̙̫̣͚͖̾̂͗͋̀ͧͧ͂̏́S̸̢̪̣̰̙͉͇͉̪̿ͬ̇ͤ́́͝?̴̏ͧ̀͆͋̉̌͒̾ͥ͗҉͍̬̝̮͚̙̼̰̖̯))
What exactly does this sealing away process entail anyways?
((…Well, it’s sort of convoluted. Since the dark is kinda fixed, they are able to essentially bind the darkness of their being to the fixed darkness of a location and force them to stay, existing sort of like a shadow on a shadow.))
Wait, hold on, seal him away?
((He’s done this before, with his brothers. Essentially, he’s saying he wants them to force him away and lock him up so he can do no harm.))
CAN YOU NOT? THE FEELS OF OTHER FANDOMS ARE HARD ENOUGH WITHOUT YOU JUMPING ON BOARD.
((*EVIL LAUGHTER*))
The Group’s Meeting
Was set up. They arrived one by one. Even in spite of their desires to speak, not even Delta moved to speak. They merely arrived at the meeting place. Where what felt like an eternity had passed since they last met in this spot. There was a similar somberness to the air.
“...You feel it do you not?” Alpha asked, not looking back. “The heaviness in the air. The way the world feels. The Darkness that lingers. It is a far greater threat than it was before. ...The child. He was created for this. For the black eternity that approaches far too early...”
Finally, he turned around. His sunglasses were gone. His eyes were a solid red. Black tendrils crawled over his jaw. He was Darkened. “...I need to change that. But... I need your help.”
“Alpha, what are you planning?” Gamma whispered. Silence answered him. He moved to step forwards, but Epsilon stopped him. He drew his gun and pointed it at Alpha. Gamma grabbed his arm, but he was firm.
“...I need you to seal me away.”
WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ALPHA?! WHAT IS HE DOING?!
“…What I must, dear anon. I am doing what I need to do… In order to ensure safety.”
A Rest
Is what he needed. Some time to relax and regain his sanity. The Darkness swirled, thicker than before.
Epsilon stated at his side, still trying to figure out what had gone wrong about two weeks ago hence. “Alpha… Are you alright?” he asked carefully.
Finally, the other moved, looking over. “…yes, I suppose I am. Merely lamenting that the crystal didn’t take me out as it should have.”
Epsilon recoiled. “What… Do you mean?” he demanded, the concern for his other half clear in his intonation.
“…A being came to kill me. It shattered my crystal… But that did not kill me. I cannot fathom why.” he explained. “I… Wish it had. The Darkness is more than it once was within me. I worry what this could mean…” he sighed, then stood up.
“Alpha…?” Epsilon’s voice was weaker than it had ever been. Nearly a whisper. It carried none of his authority.
“Gather the others. We meet in the Forest.” with that, Alpha was gone. More questions remained than answers.
So, is Epsilon like, the big brother/enforcer/protector of the group? The Delta's the troublemaker and Beta's the accomplice. Gamma is the sweet cinnamon roll. Then there's Alpha, the grump.
"I refuse to be--" Alpha began to say before an arm was slung over his shoulder."He resembles that remark," Delta cut in, sticking out his tongue childishly."I am the stickiest, sweetest bun." Gamma snorted. Then he paused. "Um, wait, don't test that theory. I don't remember which labcoat I'm wearing."Epsilon grunted. "Not the big brother. Sometimes feel like I'm the mom of this unruly lot." he growled, separating Delta from Alpha as the other's eye began to twitch and his hand clenched with murderous intent. Delta chuckled."...how do you know I'm not the one orchestrating this all?" Beta quipped, smirking before fading back into the darkness with which he came.
“I LEAVE YOU ALONE FOR ONE MINUTE--
AND NOW YOU’RE SOME DARK ABOMINATION!” Epsilon roared, smashing a chair over Alpha’s head. The other roared and blindly clawed at the air, blinded from the pepper spray his younger half had brandished upon appearing. “THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?!”
“I DEMAND RECOMPENSE!” The being thundered. “I DEMAND RESTITUTION!”
“...Okay, Sally. I think I get the gist. Alpha, show me your crystal.” There was silence. “Alpha.” Just a grumble. “Alpha, I swear, I will rip it from your chest.”
“I DON’T HAVE ONE ANYMORE, IT BROKE.”
Epsilon sighed, then held his hand in the air. Light swirled down his arm, burning it in a pattern. Once a sizable crystal had formed, he charged over and slammed in into the other.
The darkness receded, and Alpha was able to return to normal. “...Sorry about that...” He mumbled face flushing.
“...So... What exactly happened to you?”
“A Break...
Is it so hard to believe I just want a break?” Chris sighed, staring into his mug. “Maybe just one day I don’t have to deal with all this B.O.W. mess?”
Epsilon shrugged, sipping at his tea. With as much smoothness as he could manage, he eloquently choked on his tea, splattering it on the table, and vanished, dropping and shattering the mug and knocking the chair over.
Chris blinked at the spot. “...Was it something I said...?”
With some degree of fear. But mostly Self Preservation. Dark took his leave with as much speed as he dared.
Alpha snarled at the space where the other had stood, claws flexing. “If I find you… I WILL CULL YOU AND ANY OTHER I SHALL FIND UPON MY WAY! NOTHING SHALL STAND BETWEEN MYSELF… and my vengeance, Dark…”
*Sprays him with water* THOT BE GONE
((I JUST CHOKED))
The Walker flinched away from the water, form turning transparent, then back to opaque. He unhinged his jaw, and shrieked at the anon.
WAIT, WHAT JUST HAPPENED, HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD
A wide grin split the creature’s maw, black oozing from both the hole in his chest and his mouth. Black tendrils snaked over the red of his orbs. “…Ha… That would be true if I were still little Alpha… But I’m not.”
