Garruk caught his breath for a moment. After a minute he drank water and bit chunks out of the bread. Eventually handing both back to Ogistune. "We will need to carve some pieces out of it. To bring back to the Smithy. The guild will take care of the rest and give us a bit more of the beast afterwards." Garruk looked to the hot air balloon that could barely be seen through the trees. He pointed to it.

"I have a flare in my bag. But I do not think we will need it." He sighed. Slowly rising to his feet. "I am sure the guild is already aware of our victory. I am also sure they will be surprised at knowing that this was an Apex monster." He chuckled thinking about the uproar that will occur at the guild for this misclassification, and mis-assignment of this quest.

Ogi looked up, sighing as she spotted the balloon with him. She took a bite of the bread before laughing, "They watched us the entire time? I hope they got a good look at how I flipped around and beat that thing up!" She held out her knife, playfully recreating how she stabbed the beast with a smile. "But seriously, now we have to carve it ourselves? I've never butchered something like this before... do you have any idea what to take first? Of course the claws and teeth... Maybe some belly meat?"

Garruk laughed at her reenactment... And her sudden Bravado. It seemed like she was coming out of her shell a little. It made him happy that she seemed a little bit more comfortable with him. Life or death situations tend to do that, don't they?

Garruk pulled out the hunting knife from the rear of his waist belt. "It depends. The Smithy can make weapons or armor out of anything we bring back. But what we bring back may decide what they can make. Claws, talons, and element sacs can make weapons. While scales, hides, and the like can make armor. And the things you make with the items get properties of the monster."

He began walking towards the Royal Ludroth as he continued. "This beast is a water element monster. Good against monsters that don't like water. That is the kind of thing you can find in your Field notes. That's where all of the guild discovered knowledge is from. What monsters don't like, weak spots... Things like that." Garruk was very learned when it came to hunting monsters. And he seemed to glow when talking about it. He was very passionate it seems.

Strangers in a Strange Land

It was a beautiful day outside and Ogistune felt the need to take advantage of it. Usually, it was too cold or the snow was way too hard but now, the snow was quite soft and pliant with the sun giving a nice bit of heat to the land. These were the days she loved more than anything cause it meant she could go to her favorite hot spring spot and relax for a bit.

Her home was in the middle of a vast field with animals grazing along lazily but surrounding them was a heavy, thick forest that shielded them from the outside. The mountains lining the horizons were massive and all encompassing; meeting in the middle to create the valley she lived in with her father. With a huff, Ogi would grab her clothes and start to get them on. Once she put on her kimono and heavy jacket, all pure white, she would grab a small bag and walked out, blending into the background with ease.

She would hurry into the forested mountainside to the hotsprings.

“I should apologize too. I was too reactive and drove you out. If I’d have just taken a moment to understand what you were getting at, I feel we’d be in a better position than we are now.” Ogi hesitated but held his hand. They were rough and worn, a sign of his age and his fighting prowess. Even in her normal stature, she was small compared to him. A thing he could crush easily.

She took a breath, her tails moving around anxiously, “Id… Id like you to stay here. With… me. Even if just for a while more, I would like to really show you my home and maybe… I dont know, have a date for ourselves.”

“In all honesty, I should have trusted you. But the man said things that, in the moment made sense.” He looked up at her. “I have spent a thousand years fighting. Not just for survival sure, but it is still a long time. I have hunted many creatures on this planet. I know one day I will also be torn down in the same way that I have done. It is the circle of life. It seems that in my haste I made a decision That hurt you. I am sorry.”

He smiled at her. A tiny thing that held so much power. His strength lied in brute force, while hers did in cunning. Both were strength of equal measure. “Would you really invite in an old man such as myself?”

“Yes!” Her voice was louder than she expected, her eagerness bursting out as he asked his question. Her teal eyes glittered in the moonlight as her grip on Garruks’ hand grew a tad tighter. “I…” Her face flushed, her tails swished around faster now and her ears drooped down in embarrassment, “Y-you’re not even older than my father! And age is just a number anyway, who cares how old you are! You should be more worried about being alone with someone more than half a century your junior~.” Ogi smirked, teasing Garruk playfully.

Garruk laughed. "Does that amount of age really matter for people as old as us? Though I suppose my age is unnatural for a human. Freyjr's blessing being what it is..." He looked up at her. "I had always considered my life unnatural. I believed I was unique in my long life. It was as much of a blessing as it was a curse. I was not sure which I believed was more true..."

"... Though Through meeting you, I have learned of a whole side of the Green I had never seen before. These... Spirits... Yokai, are not something I had ever encountered before. I believe you have renewed my desire to continue, Ogistune."

The day was a little chilly, making Ann grateful for the occasional spots of sun that filtered through the trees, and warmed her skin. She stretched her legs, startling a fish when the heel of her boot broke the water's surface. "Oops... Sorry there, buddy. Now if you could just swim over to the nice little wooden fishie instead..." She smiled lopsidedly, brows knit as her insides gnawed at her gently. While it was true that she found fishing relaxing, and would even go so far as to consider it a hobby- the reality was that Ann was hungry, and more than that, she was lost. Not that since leaving her home she'd ever been anything but lost... With a sigh, she looked away from her rod, scanning the forest. Things were making noise in the underbrush and in the trees. That was a good sign- it was quiet that was dangerous. And, at least the weather was good... She had blessings to count for once.

"Magic exists where I come from... It died a few times, historically, and it's come back weaker every time, but it... it does exist. Wizards learn it through study, and sorcerers are born with it. Warlocks gain it through deals with higher powers... Is this not how it works everywhere?" Ann asked. "I haven't met other magic users, or really people at all... I've read about these things, so I might be wrong..."

"Eh... How I have known it and what I have been told from my other counterparts is... Different." He paused. "We use what is called "The Old Magic". The last remaining power of the gods who have... Gone away. I believe my magic is from Freyjr, The god of Nature, Fertility, and Growth. I have a connection to the land, and can grow in size to challenge any foe!" He pounded on his chest once.

"Though I believe the Blue boy claims to have a direct link to the God who gives him his strength. Which is... Unheard of. But I cannot deny the strength, magic, and Goodness in the boy. So I can only believe it true..." He paused for a moment solemnly. As if wishing the Gods he worshipped would speak to him. He shook his head.

"I believe that I was specifically chosen by Freyjr. But If I recall, the others think it is random. Though I have been alive for over a thousand years, since the time of my people, I am all that remains. I believe my faith is enough to keep My gods alive.

I'm a sorcerer, someone born with magic, is all. And sometimes I can do it in my head. Like, without having to speak the magic into existence." She was trying to explain, though her own knowledge of how her magic worked was so internal, so difficult to explain... and the parts she could explain she really didn't want to. "Your friend... Black Mage man person... is probably still alive. I'm probably something different."

Garruk nodded. "Yes. It is the same with the rest of us. Some are born to be the user of a color of magic, others are chosen when the current user of a color dies. So you very well could be one of the five. But..."

Garruk took a moment to observe her. It didn't seem like he was looking at her, more... Through her. His gaze was searching, or rather, exploring.

"No. Your mana seems different from ours. How do you draw your power? Like, when you are empty, how do you use your magic again?"

Ann furrowed her brows. "Well, I rest for a little bit. My magic is... sort of half internal, half... pulled on via my connection to... something else. To where my darker magics come from." Thinking a bit more, she wrinkled her nose. "Sometimes I can pull on my internal reserves for a bit more magic, but that doesn't feel very good. It's like trying to get more water out of an empty jug." She shifted in place, not really liking the way Garruk was looking into her. She worried about the things he might see, the things he might find... "Um... You said I could maybe help you with something, earlier. What was it?"

Garruk tilted his head, "Then you are not one of "The Five". Fascinating. We believed we were the only magic users left. But if you have a source of power... Maybe the gods have notleft us!" Garruk's eyes went wide with excitement. He turned to Alasdair, "My friend! There is a chance the gods still exist! Valhalla my friend!"

It was like telling a kid he could pick out any toy he wanted at a toy store. Garruk was only trying to inspect her magical aura, not peer into her soul... Or who accompanied it.

"For me?" He looked between the orb and Nasuca. "What exactly is this?" What could the link between her and the Lacrima be? Sorin didn't believe in fate, he defied it enough times to know personally that the fates can be cruel, but not absolute. Could this be one of those magic implanting Lacrima? Sorin wasn't sure that his magic and that of the Lacrima would be compatible if it was a magic implanting Lacrima.

Nasuca nodded finally able to focus on something besides the dark orb. "It's a lacrima, but this isn't like any lacrima I've seen myself." She glanced at it and back to Sorin. "I'm sure this will help you though." Of course she was still unsure why she had it or how she kenw it was for him, to help him maintain his own magic. "Can you feel its power?"

She was curious now about what was happening and if he even knew either. But she hoped it would help none the less.

Sorin took ahold of the crystal... The Lacrima. It did seem to contain some sort of power. He wasn't sure what she meant by helping him, or if it was meant for him like she presumed. Though if it would help him survive, he would welcome it, like any other assistance.

Was that his life now? Survival solely for the sake of it? It was better than the alternative at least. But in that moment he realized that with his fervor extinguished after defeating his father, his life seemed... Less. Hollow. He should be relieved, and at the time he was. A millennia, a thousand years, is a long time for anyone to endure. Even those meant to.

"I do feel... Something. What is it I am supposed to do with it? And are you sure you can just gift me something so precious or rare?"

Ogi sighed, finally feeling the beast grow limp. She jumped down, looking over their kill for a second before hurrying to Garruk, "Are you hurt anywhere?" Without thinking, she placed her hands on his body, attempting to feel any unseen wounds. "I can't believe we did that..."

Garruk seemingly did not notice Ogistune's hand on him. His Greatsword dropped to the ground and he to his knees. Hi breath came ragged and in great gasps for air. His struggle against a beast much stronger than himself took a toll. While he was mostly uninjured, (nothing a few potions couldn't fix) He himself had barely the energy to stand.

Garruk raised a hand to allay Ogistune's fears. "Just... A moment to... Catch my breath." He patted himself down, checking for injuries. Finding none of immediate concern he focused on regaining his energy to stand.

This was a beast that only a seasoned veteran should have been able to take down. And by Guild authority, these two Hunters shouldn't have fought or triumphed. This will definitely cause a stir at the guild. Two rookie hunters defeating a high rank monster... And an Apex at that. These two might be destined for something greater.

Ann swallowed. "Ann Poplaw. B-between homes at the moment. Claimed by no people, and owner of very little." She gave the best curtsy she could manage, only to stumble a little bit as her feet caught on one another. Once she righted herself, she fidgeted with the ends of her hair, and looked at both of them. "That was... how one introduces themselves, right? I don't have experience with other people..."

Alasdair stifled a chuckle. At her statement and her stumble. Garruk interjected "Well yes. But usually one would try to introduce themselves with positive things! Or things that might be impressive to someone else. You mentioned you also can speak in the mind like Alasdair. What else can you do in that regard?"

"Oh, well..." She openly blushed, realizing that, no, she had not had anything good to say about herself... but she was being honest about all of them. "Um. Let me try again then." She cleared her throat. "Ann Poplaw, wandering sorceress. Free from all fetters of kin or country, and... um... child to the land itself!" The little human tried her best to puff out her chest, but with how scant it was, and how small she was... it only added to either the charm or humor of her attempt. "Oh, my magic? Um. I can make illusions, create fire, um..." Ann began to look a little bit nervous. "Cause headaches... fleas.... summon a spirit of death..."

Garruk smiled at her attempt. It was worth noting that at the very least she tried. And it was a good effort at the very least. She had the ability to put herself forward it seemed. Garruk's smile widened when she mentioned she was a child of the land.

His smile faltered when she mentioned her abilities. Alasdair chimed in before Garruk could. "Fleas? Spirit of death? Are you the new black mage? Did the old vampire finally kick the bucket? I'm impressed. Whatever managed to slay Sorin will be a worthy hunt indeed..."

Garruk shushed Alasdair. "Hush my friend. It is rude to speak of the dead. Our magic may have been at odds, but he was not a bad person. And the new Black Mage seems the same!" He smiled at Ann. They didn't realize they were throwing a lot of info at the poor girl who would have no idea what they were talking about. Especially since unbeknownst to the whole group, Sorin Markov was still alive and well.

Garruk turned his attention back to the woman. "Eh... I... Do not think I know. I do not think I ever thought to ask..." Garruk paused for a moment. His eyes narrowing as if concentrating. The wolf began to swim over with no visible signal from Garruk, but it was clear the wolf stopped what he was doing to return to the man. The wolf slinked out of the water, quickly shaking off his fur to the best of his ability. The water exploding off of his enormous pelt in a rush like a wave.

"Alasdair! This young lady wondered if you like ear scratches! I didn't think I have ever asked or tried, but it could be my memory in our old age. What do you think?" It certainly looked strange when the man spoke directly to the wolf as if it could understand him. Garruk was oblivious to the implications that it would make him look insane.

Then the wolf responded. Not with his mouth, but he responded nonetheless. "Ear scratches? You called me over here from my bath for pets by a stranger?"

"Well yes, but she promised to help us catch fish... Plus, it would make catching *him* easier. Would it not?" Garruk seemed enthusiastic about whatever *He* was.

"I suppose..." The wolf responded.

Ann stood on tiptoe for the moment that the wolf began to swim over, clearly excited, only to fall back flatfoot when the wolf began to shake. She laughed, a sweet and lyrical sound that seemed rare coming from her, as she was splashed with water. She wiped it away from her face as Garruk began to speak. The line of questioning did seem a bit odd, until she heard Alasdair speak within her mind, her eyes going wide. "Oh! You can speak telepathically! I can too, but... I always worry that it might scare people to hear me so suddenly... given that I can talk normally too, especially..." She put her hands together, palm to palm. "I would have just asked you myself if I knew I could... Not respecting your ability to speak for yourself is... rude? I think? But um. You just look... really fluffy, with thick fur, and... I wanted to make friends.... Oh! But yeah, I was gonna catch fish, and I offered to share, but then we figured I couldn't catch enough fish just by myself..." The little sorceress found herself rambling a little, and fell silent as a result.

The massive wolf huffed. This one was quite talkative. "If you wish to pet me, I will not stop you. But introductions should be offered first should they not?" The giant direwolf stretched before standing upright. "I am Alasdair Wildspeaker. Ascended Direwolf and companion to Garruk Wildspeaker."

Garruk chimed in, stepping forward. " I am Garruk Wildspeaker. The last survivor of Aramoor. Owner of the Worldcarver Axe, and Wielder of *The Green*."

Garruk turned his attention back to the woman. "Eh... I... Do not think I know. I do not think I ever thought to ask..." Garruk paused for a moment. His eyes narrowing as if concentrating. The wolf began to swim over with no visible signal from Garruk, but it was clear the wolf stopped what he was doing to return to the man. The wolf slinked out of the water, quickly shaking off his fur to the best of his ability. The water exploding off of his enormous pelt in a rush like a wave.

"Alasdair! This young lady wondered if you like ear scratches! I didn't think I have ever asked or tried, but it could be my memory in our old age. What do you think?" It certainly looked strange when the man spoke directly to the wolf as if it could understand him. Garruk was oblivious to the implications that it would make him look insane.

Then the wolf responded. Not with his mouth, but he responded nonetheless. "Ear scratches? You called me over here from my bath for pets by a stranger?"

"Well yes, but she promised to help us catch fish... Plus, it would make catching *him* easier. Would it not?" Garruk seemed enthusiastic about whatever *He* was.

"I suppose..." The wolf responded.

Life; To Live

Ploip! The little wooden fish Ann was using as a lure made an equally little sound as she tossed it in the water. The day was a little chilly, making Ann grateful for the occasional spots of sun that filtered through the trees, and warmed her skin. She stretched her legs, startling a fish when the heel of her boot broke the water's surface. "Oops... Sorry there, buddy. Now if you could just swim over to the nice little wooden fishie instead..." She smiled lopsidedly, brows knit as her insides gnawed at her gently. While it was true that she found fishing relaxing, and would even go so far as to consider it a hobby- the reality was that Ann was hungry, and more than that, she was lost. The thunderous laughter was somehow a comfort, despite the loudness of it's sound. Ann's lip corners turned further upwards. "I mean, I can do my best. I don't need much, myself, but... I don't get many opportunities to not have to eat alone."

Ann stood, setting her fishing rod aside. "Well... whatever you're planning, my rod will probably be too slow... So what's your plan, and am I going to need to take off my boots for it?"

"Ah.... Hmmm..." He put a hand to his heavily bearded chin. "Do you think you can hold a net?" He asked. The wheels were working in his mind. He looked around and saw a nearby stump.

"If I made a net, We could tie one end to that stump, and you could hold the other end. We dip the net into the water and chase the fish into the net! It is a great plan no? Alasdair could even help!" He gestured to the wolf behind him still in the lake.

The fire worked like a charm. It singed the sponge around its neck. Pieces of it crumbling off of it in chunks. The sponge was a large part of the creature's armor. With its protection shredded, now was the time to strike.

Garruk sprinted over towards Ogistune. "Keep running past me! I have a plan! I am going to try to knock it over!" Garruk continued past Ogistune. He brought his greatsword out and held it in front of himself. He planted the blade into the dirt diagonally and pressed himself against it. When the monster continued its charge, it collided with the massive slab of metal. Garruk slid back a few feet but held his ground. Pushing against the greatsword as beast and man engaged in a power clash.

"Knock it over?!" She didnt hesitate and ran past Garruk to a safe distance before turning around to watch the clash. Never before had she witnessed such an incredible feat of power and strength. Ogi had to do something to give garruk the advantage. She found a sturdy tree and climbed to the top, using her weight to fling herself from tree to tree till she was mere feet from the beast.

She unsheathed her blade and waited for the perfect moment before jumping down, landing on the beasts back to land a few hits. Ogi grabbed onto anything available as the beast thrashed around a bit, losing its balance as it tried to throw her off. "Knock him down!!"

With a booming grunt from Garruk, and thanks to Ogistune's well timed distraction, Garruk forced himself forward. Pushing his giant slab of a great sword into the beasts face, continuing his push. After a moment of intense struggle, Garruk Gripped his greatsword, stepping back slightly and swinging his sword up with a mighty force.

Garruk cleaved the blade upward into the underside of the monster's chin. With a roar of defiance that was cut off into the beasts surprise at being off balance, The Apex Royal Ludroth toppled over and rolled twice, landing on its back. Garruk gasped for air after his exertion, knowing he had no time to rest before the beast righted itself, he charged forward. "NOW!"

Ogi made sure to climb as the beast toppled over, staying upright as she searched for its weak point. She pulled out her blades, small and simple yet when they pierced the beasts' neck, they went in effortlessly, slicing its prey mercilessly. She didnt stay in one spot, moving around to hit as many points as possible to end the monsters suffering.

Garruk dragged his greatsword across the ground as he ran up towards the beast, grunting with the effort. The Royal Ludroth continues to thrash as Ogistune's blades pierced its flesh. Garruk positioned himself near the beast's head. Hoisting his weapon over his shoulder, he took a deep breath and then hurled his body forward. Heaving his weapon over his head and bringing it down onto the beast's own. The movement bringing an end to their struggle, and the creature's life.

Ann blinked hard. He was clearly speaking to her, but just as he didn't understand her, she didn't understand him at all. The only other language she knew was deep speech, and she was sure that attempting to speak that in anyone else's presence was a short ticket to being hunted down and burned at the stake. Even in lands of magic, some magics were more accepted than others. Feeling dumb, her cheeks colored, and she held up her catch. "F-fish... more? Share?"

Garruk's eyes widened as if a realization hit him. He held up a figure as if to say "Wait a moment please!" The large man continues to speak. His eyes began to glow and a smell wafted into the area. The area flooded with the scent of Damp peat, Petrichor, and oakmoss; The scents of nature in its purest form.

After a moment, the scent died down and Garruk looked back up at the woman with a small smile. When he spoke, Garruk’s voice was a sudden, warm burst of thunder that seemed to rattle the very air, echoing with a warmth that was as thick as the leather he left on the tree. "I am sorry. Were you speaking to me? I couldn't quite hear you from the other side of the Lake."

It seems the large man had a translator spell in his arsenal. Strange for one who seemed to be a warrior.

Ann sighed, her shoulders slumping with a bit of relief. Good, she wouldn't have to rely on that. She mirrored his smile, and lifted the fish again. "I was wondering if you um. I can fish up another two, so you and your wolf friend and I could all eat together, if you wanted. I'm..." Her eyes flickered downwards. They held a light just like his had when he'd cast his spell- but hers was the kind of blue one might see when fifty feet beneath the ocean's surface, looking up. "I'm not great with people, but I'm trying my best to be friendly. That's a normal people thing, right?" For a split second, her irises shimmered like nervous water, before her smile grew wider, and more shy.
