God revealed something during my first hike.
They said that when you travel, you learn something new. You have new memories to share. And in my case, my first hike gave me an awakening why I'm doing it, and what's the whole purpose of it.
For all the hikers out there, you know how much struggle we have to take before we reach the summit. It all start from knowing how high and steep the mountain, and who are the people that has the courage to be with you. It could be your closest friends, family, coworkers, or some strangers.
Mt. Maculot is not totally a high mountain to climb, but truly a challenging one. If you know the 9/9 difficulty of every mountain, then Mt. Maculot is in 3/9, and its rockies has 4/9 difficulty. To some, it could be easy, but for most of us, it wasn't.
Would you believe that God revealed something to me while doing my first hike? You might think that I wanted to go down when we were climbing - true, but there was more than that.
My first ascending step was exciting. It was not that hard since I prepared myself when it comes to long walks. It was dark and cold since we started climbing at around 3 A.M.
As we ascend to reach Grotto peak, I was in the middle of the new hikers and tenured ones. I was left behind by the first group and was waiting for the new hikers. I had the time to look around. It was pitch black. I had my led light with me and a heavy bag. Then I thought of the instance that I was almost quiting in my first job. I was disappointed with my performance, and felt like no one's with me. It was heavy, and too dark for me to see my purpose. I promised myself to get out of there after getting my first salary, but truly God touches people to remind you that He exists; and he used my older brother. He became my light during that time. My older brother told me that there is no such thing as easy work, but you can master it; that's the time it will become easy for you.
And when I reached the peak of Grotto, you can see the lights were like constellations, they were twinkling. But witnessing the sunset was astounding, the beauty of it will keep you speechless. And from that experience, God was revealing me that He made the day and the night and the stars. He let the sun rise to let us know that there will be always another day to make yourself better in every thing that you will do.
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years,
But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.
We can encounter God's revelation everyday, in different places, and with various people. My first hike was more than climbing a mountain. It was a revelation on how caring our God is. He knows our struggles and He's just waiting for us to surrender.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
