I admire Richard Diebenkorn, and I have been interested in how he used to paint portraits. At this beginning of the year, I have been studying his art a lot; I have a long way to walk to learn from him. I am also enjoying my sketching days with a friend here in my building and learning from my niece Sofia. Yes, I was sketching on paper, but I like and love to do it on my Ipad using Procreate; that is my sketching book. So, I decided to make portrait paintings from our Christmas Party at the Bunkhouse’s Artist group. And now, after a lot of practice, I feel more comfortable painting portraits on Procreate. I am so excited about this new technique that I am learning now. It is a combination of creativity with a processed, very delicate labor. I am a novice, learning what the appropriate tools are and how to use them. I did a carving from my mom's photo. I want to spend the 13th anniversary since she left us, remembering how pretty she was. I could not etch her face because I need better tools, but I hope to accomplish a better job. I am passionate about refreshing my old memories by watching on old family photos. I admire the composition, the spontaneity, and the quality of them. I have some in my memory box. Looking for inspiration to my faceless series, I found a perfect pose of my aunt Gladis, I think, in 1957. She is my father’s sister, and the wife to my uncle Mario, who is my mother's brother. Did you get it? That means I have cousins that are almost my sibling too. Ok, but the important thing here is why she inspired me to create this painting. Well, her lovely relaxing, and straightforward pose connected me to develop a new painting that made me happy, and had fun while doing it. Of course, this not a portrait of Gladis; this painting is my interpretation of that moment. I created a story behind because when I was paintIng it, all the BLM issues became critics, so I decided to make give her dark skin. In Colombia, we affectionately call a dark-haired and medium to a dark-skinned woman, Morocha. We all know that the game of tennis comes from Great Britain. In 1972 the yellow tennis balls were incorporated into the rules of tennis. However, Wimbledon, the only major tennis tournament still played on grass, eventually adopted yellow balls in 1986. In 1884, the first women to play in Wimbledon wore full-length dresses. Today all tennis players participating in the tournament are required to wear almost all-white clothing.
