@very-sincerely-yours-zine
Very fun and exciting day today at the in-person pick up for the Very Sincerely Yours Zine. I am even more excited to read this book tonight with the rain, some snacks and a whole pot of tea!
Everything is so amazingly beautiful and well done!
I have a big appreciation for everyone who worked on this project. You all did a wonderful job!
Sherlock Holmes is the funniest case of âdoomed by the narrativeâ ever. Doomed by the narrative and destined to die young bc the creator hated him, and then the fans literally bullied him into un-dooming the narrative, writing about him for another thirty years, and giving the character a canonical happy ending where he retires to the countryside and keeps bees. Funniest shit ever.
greatest dynamic in the world IS strange, eccentric asshole and their normal and polite friend who on closer inspection is actually worse in deeply weird and unexpected ways
What's trending in the world of entertainment and light literature in 1916 (Watson is reading âThe Aunt and the Sluggardâ and Bertie just saw the William Gillette film)
Sir Arthur Conan "I have a clear mental picture of exactly where each individual piece of furniture in Sherlock Holmes' apartment is located but cannot remember that men are not named James" Doyle.
gay people cant say I love you. Its always gotta be
My favorite part about Sherlock Holmes getting really into beekeeping in retirement is he mentions bees exactly zero times before that. He just woke up one day in 1903 like
Absolutely yes, but I also love that in A Case of Identity, Holmes is like:
If we could fly out of that window hand in hand, hover over this great city, gently remove the roofs, and peep in at the queer things which are going on, the strange coincidences, the plannings, the cross-purposes, the wonderful chains of events, working through generations, and leading to the most outrĂš results, it would make all fiction with its conventionalities and foreseen conclusions most stale and unprofitable.â
So it's like as a young man he goes "Boy I wish there was a tiny society made of individuals with a shorter lifespan than my own which I could life the roof off of and observe." And then he just sits on that for a few decades before going "WAIT! BEES!!!!"
(Also he's holding Watson's hand in his omniscient flying person fantasy)
