“Nouzad Alwandi” 24x30 acrylic on canvas © Olga Olnuzola Nunnink 2015. I painted this portrait in just a couple hours two years ago. My neighbor Nouzad Alwandi, I found him laying dead in our shared stairway on july 21st ‘15. He was barried on the 27th and me and my community held a gathering for Nouzad later that day. Nouzad was a lot, he also had been through a lot. (barely) Survived a mustardgas attack at the age of 16 in Koerdistan. He suffered the rest of his life because of that day. Most important is that he had such a love for nature, he always knew how to treat his plants best and he found his satisfaction in creating his art, night, day, sun or storm.. it didn’t matter. This painting was stolen a couple a days after I had put it up as a memorial… .
