Hey, I took these pics of Denali (Mt. McKinley) when I was there just a few days ago. The third pic down is of a painter as he’s painting a beautiful picture of Denali. The Park Service told us we were lucky because that was the first day that the peak of Denali could be seen in over three weeks. So, what do you think? I also have some stunning pics of the Canadian Rockies from my trip there. The pics from there are absolutely jaw dropping.

The first episode of our new series Skirt the Issue starring Jacqui Rossi is here! Watch below:
Here’s a link to the study that found that both men and women are more likely to penalize women who ask for more money. The participants in the study attributed their penalties to these women being “less nice.” Women in the study were aware of how they would be viewed if they asked for more money, and thus most didn’t ask.
And again, here is another study in which resumes with women’s names on them were given 12% lower starting salaries just because they had women’s names on them.
One of the most fascinating studies on the gender wage gap showed women negotiate higher salaries if they are advocating for another individual, and not themselves. Another experiment showed women ask for an average of $7,000 less than men when negotiating for themselves, but the same amount when negotiating for someone else (Summary).
So it’s not a problem of women needing to “negotiate more” or “learn to negotiate”; women already know how to negotiate, but are aware of the sexism they will face for advocating for themselves. It’s sexist bullshit.
A former Stanford swimmer who sexually assaulted an unconscious woman was sentenced to six months in jail because a longer sentence would have “a severe impact on him,” according to a judge. At his sentencing Thursday, his victim read him a letter describing the “severe impact” the assault had on her, in utter disregard of the sexual assault victim.
One night in January 2015, two Stanford University graduate students biking across campus spotted a freshman thrusting his body on top of an unconscious, half-naked woman behind a dumpster. This March, a California jury found the former student, 20-year-old Brock Allen Turner, guilty of three counts of sexual assault. Turner faced a maximum of 14 years in state prison. On Thursday, he was sentenced to six months in county jail and probation. The judge said he feared a longer sentence would have a “severe impact” on Turner, a champion swimmer who once aspired to compete in the Olympics — a point repeatedly brought up during the trial.
On Thursday, Turner’s victim addressed him directly, detailing the severe impact his actions had on her — from the night she learned she had been assaulted by a stranger while unconscious, to the grueling trial during which Turner’s attorneys argued that she had eagerly consented.
The woman, now 23, told BuzzFeed News she was disappointed with the “gentle” sentence and angry that Turner still denied sexually assaulting her.
“Even if the sentence is light, hopefully this will wake people up,” she said. “I want the judge to know that he ignited a tiny fire. If anything, this is a reason for all of us to speak even louder.”
She provided her statement, printed in full below, to BuzzFeed News.

Denali is huge – 20,310 feet tall and growing about 1 millimeter a year. Despite its size, visitors to Denali National Park & Preserve are often denied a view of “the high one” by clouds and fog. However, on clear days, the massive granite mountain dominates the landscape. Photo by Kathleen Barth (www.sharetheexperience.org).
The Island Fox is a diminutive and docile fox unique to California’s Channel Islands. In fact, they are the only carnivore unique to California. They are broken up into six subspecies, living on and named after 6 of the 8 Channel Islands.
A new study has revealed that they are unique in another incredible way: they are nearly genetically identical to one another. A lack of genetic diversity can pose serious threats to survival, yet the Island Fox population has been recovering for the last few years (though they are still listed as ‘near threatened’). Read more about this trait and how it may affect the future of the foxes here.
