my submission for @creatingblackcharacters’ melanin beam challenge! happy birthday Ice! thanks so much for putting this event together, and also for all the immensely wonderful work you do

i was debating a lot for which characters to do, but here’s BOTW Link and Zelda :] i also grabbed a TON more screenshot references from both BOTW and TOTK that i want to redraw with these designs, but i figured i should just take my time with these and i can draw more of them later. some hairstyle ref images that i used under the cut!

For Link's hair, I wanted short-ish locs, but ones that were still long enough to pull into his iconic little ponytail

For Zelda's hair, I knew I wanted to give her goddess braids, but I also wanted to keep her original design's braid crown atop her head, and i actually found a couple references of someone who had a thicker braid crown on top with tighter braids elsewhere, so i tried to extrapolate from that into something that hopefully makes sense!

The first two are from "Otome Youkai Zakuro" and the last one is from "Lucky Star"; I wish I could've made more edits for this, but I had to make do with the time I got!

i have to forgive myself every day but that's okay because so does everyone else and honestly why am i even so sad/mad at myself for allowing myself to think that my abusive relationship was real and loving? he tricked me. he love bombed me, he used me for housing, he used me for sex, and eventually I used him to feel justified in being a perpetual victim. it was fun taking my anger out on him because he deserved it for lying to me and assaulting me in my sleep. i really didn't have much of a chance either, my whole family had one abusive relationship after another and some of them are still in them. i'm actually one of the lucky ones.

i'm finally starting to get closer and closer to being okay with being forgotten in a few hundred years or so. I even deleted some posts across my blogs that I feel no longer serve me. I don't know why it's so hard for me. I guess I just love my life now!
