The Basement Commentaries second annual Halloween Special

Halloween is spooky movie time and at the basement commentaries we go all out for the Halloween celebration. Tonight we will be watching two horror movies deep in the backwoods of Kentucky, who knows if we’ll even make it to the second film. Grab some brews, some booze, a movie watching devise and settle down in the woods with us on our second annual Halloween special.

Tonight our picks were once again pulled out of the great skeleton punch bowl man known as Larry. And Larry has chosen Josh’s pick, Friday the 13th part 8:  Jason takes Manhattan and Weedo’s pick, Tucker & Dale Vs Evil. Jason Takes Manhattan is more like Jason on a boat, even the director doesn’t think it should be called Manhattan with the finished product. But it is still a very fun film full of boats, toxic waste and Kane mutherfucking Hodder fucking shit up in Manhattan.

Tucker & Dale Vs Evil is a romantic commend with a body count. Two good ol’ boys just wanted to fix up their brand new vacation home when, well, let me tell you, they had a doozy of a day. A group of college kids show up and just start killing themselves all over their property. A lovely film that includes numerous references to favorite horror movies, a lot of good laughs and some great deaths. Katrina Bowden turning this some of tuckers clothes into this

Ding Ding! Let the fight begin! Captain America Civil War is Marvels studios latest cinematic rumble. After a deadly accident in Lagos, the Governments of the world have decided that the Avengers should no longer work on their own terms. The Sokovia accords, named after the incident during The Age of Ultron movie, deems the avengers a threat to planetary safety unless they agree to only go where and do as they are told. Iron Man, wracked with guilt and PTSD, agrees and immediately signs. While Captain America thinks their powers are best left in their own hands, not some group of politicians who could be swayed or bought. (Or Hydra! Come on, did you see Winter Soldier? Everyone could be Hydra.) Frankly, I agree with Cap on many things, and Weedo thinks Iron Man has the right idea. What about you? A cherry and some cherry juice at the bottom A dash of strawberry syrup Layer some Pina Colada And top off with a layer of Blue Curacao

 The Iron Man

A splash of orange juice A few drops of grenadine And a layer of whiskey or bourbon

Use a spoon and pour the layers very slowly to achieve the perfectly layered drinks.

In 1984 Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird self published a black and white comic book starring four serious and brutal Ninja turtles. This was no kids book either. The turtles hacked and slashed their way through the Foot clans foot ninjas leaving a bloody trail in their wake. These turtles would be horrified at their later incarnations.  

But to many the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon is the start of the true heroes in a half shell. The brutal vigilantes turned into multi color head banded , fun loving crime fighters. And in 1990 the turtles were brought to life and to the big screen thanks to Jim Henson of The Muppets fame.

 Today Logeen and Christopholese sit down with some pizza and some beers to watch the first live action incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

So to keep the audience from having to wait so long CBS decides to make a Holiday Special. George Lucas warily agrees, too focused on Empire to really put thought into it. This was the “Dammit George!” long before The Phantom Menace graced the screen. To be fair Hollywood was in a veritable snow storm at the time, Carrie fisher could barely see through the blizzard.

It is life day in the Star Wars universe, a basic thanksgiving or Christmas holiday type idea and Han must get his pal Chewie home to his weird ass family for the holidays. We spent 30 seconds with the lovable smuggler and walking carpet before being dropped in the shag carpeted tree home of Maula, itchy and lumpy. We're treated to alien infomercials, Art Carney, Bea Arthur and grandpa Itchy watching porn in the living room. And then the red robed wookies walk into the sun. Ah the holidays.
