“Never, never tell them. Try and remember that. Never tell anyone anything ever. Never tell anyone anything again.”
— Ernest Hemingway
L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
“The key is to keep asking yourself the same question, again and again and again: this is your life - what do you want to pay attention to?”
— Catherine Price, from How to Break Up with Your Phone
“You can start over today. Right in this minute. It doesn’t have to be a monday or a new year to recreate yourself.”
— Unknown
It’s always difficult to keep personal prejudice out of a thing like this. And wherever you run into it, prejudice always obscures the truth.
12 ANGRY MEN dir. Sidney Lumet
i needed to read this
“There is a curious paradox that no one can explain: who understands the secrets of the reaping of the grain? Who understands why spring is born out of winter’s laboring pain, or why we all must die a bit before we grow again?”
— El Gallo, The Fantasticks (1955)
A candid shot of 56 year old Paul Newman outside of his home in Connecticut, photo by Eva Sereny, 1981. Newman’s T-shirt reads: “get really stoned, drink wet cement”.
i feel like artists like judy garland never get to be seen as the brooding genius type. ppl think she was just raw talent and emotion that sang big and loud and ppl loved her cuz she was a beautiful mess. there’s just this fundamental divide between woman and man artist that meet a similar demise–the men are viewed as having been too brilliant for this life and the women are viewed as having been essentially too incompetent to make it work. when most ppl offer up judy garland or marilyn monroe as a tragic figure i feel like it’s with little regard to their work and intellect and dedication to their art. anyway that’s why i love any shot of judy garland that’s really deep and introspective. like there she is, my van gogh
Some people never get to know the folks next door. They share a fence and nothing else, and we shared everything. How did we get to be so lucky? DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (2004-2012)
As Susan left her driveway, she had a feeling she was being watched, and she was. The ghosts of people who had been a part of Wisteria Lane were gazing upon her as she passed. They watched her, as they watched everyone, always hoping the living could learn to put away rage and sorrow, bitterness and regret. These ghosts watch, wanting people to remember that even the most desperate life is oh, so wonderful. Desperate Housewives Series Finale 8.23 “Finishing the Hat”
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, 8x22 - “Give Me the Blame”
